The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Marla Adams Speaks About Life After Dina’s Death – Wants Ghostly Return In Genoa City

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) death ends what has been a three-year arc. This soap opera’s arguably greatest storyline in years concludes, as it began and ran, with the power of Adams’ performance, the collaboration of her great colleagues, a superb script, and excellent production values, all of which make for an indelible conclusion.

Speaking directly to the audience, via Y&R’s main Twitter account, Adams said, “Of all the characters I’ve played from The Secret Storm to Broadway, this has been the most astonishing, amazing part I’ve ever had the privilege to play.”

Ever the seasoned daytime performance, Adams added a teaser in her concluding remarks when saying, “I hope they bring her back as a ghost.”

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Dina Mergeron Returns In The 1980’s

Adams made her Y&R debut on May 27, 1983. Dina was said to have gone to high school with John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), and a number of other characters in the decades before the show first aired in 1973. Some of her referenced classmates were characters who longtime viewers knew in the 1970’s.

Dina abandoned John and their children in the 1960’s, as she prioritized a perception of self-fulfillment over family obligations she’d committed to.

Her return to Genoa City, Wisconsin, as the widow who’d married a successful French cosmetics business owner, was part of an effort to expand the Abbott family’s backstory. That was during a period when the Abbott’s became one of the lead families in the show.

John’s response to Dina, her later paternity reveal to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and all of the other emotionally charged drama that unfolded during Adams’ first stint on Y&R helped to inform and shape viewer’s bond with the Abbott’s.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Mother Comes Home Again

After departing the cast in the mid 1980’s, Adams returned for some very brief stints in 1990’s and late 2000’s. However, her comeback in 2017 established what was to become the greatest expansion of this character. This final arc enabled Adams’ rise through the fall of 2020.

Dina was written back into the show with Graham Bloodworth (Max Shippee), an initially mysterious companion who she later killed, in self-defense, as he was trying to inject her with what proved to be a lethal substance. Shippee’s character was the plot vehicle that allowed the news of Dina’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis to be told.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – All Hail A Great Actor Marla Adams

Touching behind the scenes moments are seen on Y&R’s social media video honoring Adams’ farewell. Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Davidson, and Beth Maitland (Traci Abbott) paid tribute to the longtime colleague and on-screen mother.

Their words and emotions confirm what viewers saw during these many years, the actor’s respect and concern for each other is real.

All who are devoted to this genre know that Adams’ efforts were outstanding. A past daytime Emmy awards nomination didn’t turned out as hoped. So, here’s wishing that next year’s ceremony results in this resplendent actor offering her acceptance speech as she stands with the statue in victory.
