The Young and the Restless spoilers has some news to pass on about a fan-favorite Y&R star. Melody Thomas Scott, who portrays Nikki Newman on the CBS soap, was recently the subject of some fan concern after appearing on the show sporting a blonde wig.
Many fans wondered on social media whether Melody was ok and if there was perhaps a health issue underlying the decision to have her wear a wig on the show.
Well, after a lot of fan chatter online, Melody decided to address the issue on Twitter. “I know there’ve been a lot of questions about Nikki’s wig,” Melody stated. “Just wanted to share that everything is fine!”
Melody then went on to explain the rationale for the wig. “When we resumed production, we had limited contact with our amazing glam team & needed a simple, short-term solution. You’ll see my real hear soon! #FakeHairDon’tCare #WigGate”
Fans were quick to weigh in on Melody’s announcement, and the comments were definitely mixed about the wig. One fan said: “Melody, even if you’d come on screen after waking up. I’m sure your own hair would look stunning. You have natural thick hair that envies a lot of people. You’re beautiful!”
Someone else commented: “Oh!! I was wondering about Nikki’s wig, but that makes sense. I wear a wig all the time. Just more convenient and I can style my own wig.”
But others had negative reactions to the wig, with one person responding: “So glad to hear this because sorry to say the Wig does not do Nikki justice.” And someone else commented: “Wig looked like it was from the 60s. And it never moved.”
But others responded with support and a little bit of humor. For example, one person replied with: “I’m so sorry that this has become such an issue. I’m just happy to have you back and am happy to see you in a good storyline.”
And finally, someone said: “OMG! There are hashtags? That wig deserves to be listed in the credits! I hope you keep it.”
Of course, the important thing here is that Y&R is back on air, and if the social distancing requirements mean that Nikki needs to wear a wig for a while, then that’s just the way it’s going to be.
At any rate, it seems that the wig’s time on the show will be brief, and once things get back to usual with hair and makeup teams back in full force, we should see Melody’s real hair emerge again.
