The Young and the Restless Spoilers: New Y&R Episodes Update - Los Angeles County Officially Open To Filming June 12

The Young and the Restless spoilers has some news to pass on about when Y&R could be able to begin filming new episodes. It’s been several weeks since the show has aired original content, and while the encore episodes are a fun throwback, fans are clamoring for production to begin again and new episodes to show up on our screens.

As you might know, Y&R is filmed in Los Angeles County, and there are reports that the County will issue its guidelines for TV and film production sometime today, Thursday, June 11th. In addition, it’s reported that the County will allow filming to resume as soon As Friday, June 12th, providing that all the guidelines are met.

You might remember that the entertainment industry recently issued a white paper of its own that set forth its guidelines for social distancing and testing on film and TV sets. It appeared to be the industry’s way of getting itself ready to return to work and its way of planning for how it will deal with the new realities of the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, we should point out that while the industry may be opened back up to filming on Friday, June 12th, it doesn’t mean that filming is immediately going to start taking place, nor that we’ll see new episodes of Y&R anytime soon.

It’s going to take time for Y&R to get up and running, and to ensure that it’s complying with all the applicable safety protocols.

The show will necessarily have to put loads of safety procedures into place, including COVID-19 testing, temperature screenings, symptom monitoring, social distancing practices, hand-washing requirements, and more. None of this will instantly happen, and it will take some time to organize and get going, so we could see some major delays in Y&R production.

And the process of getting permits could take a while in and of itself. FilmLA, the non-profit organization that handles film permits, is now saying that it will be reactivating and that it will probably be able to start accepting applications for filming permits on Monday, July 15th. And how long it would take for the permits to be issued is unknown at this point.

There seem to be a lot of hoops that need to be jumped through before filming can start – permit application, permit issuance, testing practices, implementing safety protocols, etc. It could be a considerable amount of time before the filming process starts, and from there it would take time for actual episodes to appear on screen.

It’s worth noting that Australian and British soaps seem to have been ahead of the game when it comes to restarting production, as they were preparing to return during the shutdown. That is probably why Coronation Street (a British soap) was able to begin filming yesterday.

The bottom line is that it seems that the process of getting Y&R back to filming could begin soon, but that the process itself could take quite a while before filming actually begins, so that will mean more waiting on the part of Y&R fans, and more encore episodes for the near future.

We’ll be sure to keep you up on all the news about Y&R’s production schedule as we hear it – let’s hope filming begins soon so we can see more of the great Y&R drama that we love!
