The Young and the Restless spoilers recap for Friday, October 16, tease that Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) will have coffee together at Crimson Lights. Abby will be feeling guilty for stepping out of the house after the terrible night that Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) had.
Abby will say that she fell asleep reading to Dina and that she woke up to Dina gasping for breath. Traci will note that Dina is failing fast and that the inevitable will happen soon.
Traci and Abby will prepare themselves for Dina’s death, and they’ll take comfort in the fact that when the end comes, Dina won’t be alone and that she’ll always live in their hearts. “Dina Abbott Mergeron lived a huge, full, amazing life, and we have to get some peace from that,” Traci will say through tears.
Talk will turn to Abby’s relationship with Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz), and Abby will reveal that she and Chance are talking about a family. Traci will be thrilled, and she’ll promise that she’ll help tell the baby all about her great grandmother.
Meanwhile, in Chancellor Park, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will find Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) thinking. Ashley will thank Victor for helping Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) with the “teardrop of love” necklace, then she’ll bring up the exposé on Adam Newman (Mark Grossman).
Victor won’t want to talk about it, but he will offer to take Ashley back to the Abbott mansion and visit with Dina.
At the Abbott mansion, Jack will be asleep in the living room, dreaming of a young Dina (Cathy Marks) and a young John Abbott (Jonathan Stoddard) dancing in the living room as Dina wears the “teardrop of love” necklace.
Jack’s dream will turn to a nightmare, as young Dina realizes that her necklace is gone. “My necklace, where did it go? Why did you take it away?” young Dina will say. Jack will tell young Dina that he didn’t take it away, and that it was stolen.
Suddenly, older Dina will appear in Jack’s dream, telling Jack to bring the necklace home. Jack will awaken from his dream, then he’ll call Lauren Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), who will be at Jabot with Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc).
Lauren will say that the shipment came in from London and that she has the necklace with her at Jabot. Jack will rush out the door, just as Victor and Ashley are walking in.
Victor and Ashley will visit with Dina off-screen, and then they’ll talk in the living room for a while. Ashley will want to talk about Victor’s problem with Adam, and about how Adam’s done so many horrible things to people.
Ashley will point out that Adam terrorized her, but Victor will blame Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) for publishing the story about Adam.
Ashley will ask whether Victor’s any closer to washing his hands of Adam forever, but Victor will say that he’s Adam’s father and he can’t do that. Soon, Victor will take off, asking Ashley to give his best to the entire family.
Over at Jabot, Michael and Lauren will wait for Jack to arrive, as they joke about Michael letting his hair go grey. Michael and Lauren will discuss the legend about the necklace and about their own love story.
Soon, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) will walk in, and Michael and Lauren will congratulate him on his elopement. Kyle will break the news that Summer Newman (Hunter King) left him.
Jack will arrive and take a look at the necklace, which will be magnificent. “So this is the necklace that Dina was wearing in the home video,” Kyle will say. Jack will text Abby, Traci, and Ashley saying that he’s got the necklace, and everyone will head over to the Abbott mansion.
Once everyone has convened at the mansion, Traci will ask Jack how he wants to handle presenting the necklace to Dina.
Traci, Jack, Kyle, Abby, and Ashley will agree that Dina is in serious decline and that there isn’t much time left, but that Dina’s resting now, so they should wait until Dina wakes up to do anything.
Everyone will wait for Dina to awaken, with Jack passing some time by telling Abby about his dream earlier. Traci and Ashley will compare Dina’s death with how they felt when Dina left the family all those years ago, agreeing that this time it’s harder because they’re saying goodbye forever.
Kyle and Jack will talk about Summer, with Jack urging Kyle to never give up hope on love.
As time progresses, Jack and Ashley will talk about Victor’s visit, and Abby will call Chance while Traci listens in as Abby tells Chance that she loves him.
Traci will tell Jack that she’s proud of him for finding that necklace, and that John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) would be, too.
Suddenly, Dina will appear in the doorway to the bedroom, then she will move to the chair in the living room. Jack will say that he has something to show Dina – something from the past that she’s been missing for a long time.
Jack will open the necklace box, and Dina will immediately recognize the necklace. “Oh,” Dina will gasp.
Dina will pick up the necklace and cry. “Thank you,” Dina will say. “I need you all to listen. I ran away from my life. In my heart I was with you always. And I always will be forever. Don’t you make my mistakes.”
Dina will then turn to Traci. “My darling Traci, you will never ever be forgotten.” Traci will put her hands to her face and cry.
Dina will turn to Ashley next, saying, “Ashley, I’m so sorry and you know what for. You know who you are – an Abbott – and no one can take that away from you.”
Ashley will be in tears. Dina will address Jack next, saying, “My dearest Jackie, this is your family now. Keep them safe,” Jack will promise his mother that he will.
Traci, Ashely, and Jack will tell Dina that they love her, and Dina will say that she loves them all.
The scene will fade to an empty living room, where Dina will open the living room doors and look outside into a white light. “Dina,” John’s voice will say from afar. “John!” Dina will say happily.
The scene will then turn back into the present room where Dina peacefully passes away sitting in the chair as she holds the “teardrop of love’ necklace. “Goodbye, mother,” Jack will say.
