The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) may be in the Witness Protection Program, but that doesn’t have to prevent him from reaching out to Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). As all soap opera fans know, reality can be stretched at any point in the plot.
Dylan was last seen in 2017. His undercover efforts as Derek Young in Miami, Florida, help to bring down a drug lord. However, the reach of that organized crime organization was seen as so large that it was too risky for Dylan to remain with Sharon in Genoa City, Wisconsin. So Dylan made the hard decision to leave Sharon and his family behind.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Plot Techniques Achieve Steve Burton’s Return
Noah Newman (Robert Adamson) was recently seen in GC. While Adamson’s character hadn’t been on the show in awhile, he returned for Newman Enterprises Fiftieth anniversary celebration and honored his grandfather, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), with a spectacular artistic display.
Of course, Adamson isn’t a regular player on another soap, like Burton is, playing Jason Morgan on General Hospital. So, how could Dylan make contact with Sharon?
Well, a phone call to check on her progress in the fight against cancer would suffice, with Burton not returning and his character’s name merely being mentioned. That type of technique, regarding off-screen characters, has been used on Y&R in the past.
Of course another, more satisfying, possibility would be for GH to loan Steve for a short return run on Y&R! Naturally, that would be the most satisfying option for fans. Would you like to see Burton make a brief return to Y&R?
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Dylan McAvoy’s History
Dylan was originally introduced as a character that Avery Bailey Clark (Jessica Collins), Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) sister, referenced. Avery believed her significant other was killed in battle overseas, with Dylan later explaining his reasons for not contacting her.
GC proved to be the place where Dylan’s biological parents lived. He learned that the people he thought were his mother and father, the McAvoy’s, actually adopted him.
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) was revealed as his mother with Ian Ward (Ray Wise) initially passing himself off as his father. Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) was later confirmed as Dylan’s dad.
Burton’s character married Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), who told him that Terrance Connor McAvoy (as now played by Judah Mackey) was his son. Dylan learned that Adam Newman (as now played by Mark Grossman) was actually Connor’s father, which caused the end of Chylan’s marriage.
That form of deception was later repeated when Sharon McAvoy (Sharon Case) passed off Sage Newman’s (Kelly Sullivan) son as being her (Sharon’s) and Dylan’s.
The boy they nicknamed Sully, in honor of Dylan’s fallen military buddy, was actually Christian Newman (as now played by Alex Wilson), who was eventually revealed as Adam’s son.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Steve Burton’s Deep Soap Career
Burton’s earned a 2017 Daytime Emmy award for his portrayal of Dylan. His first Daytime Emmy came in 1998, for his portrayal of Jason Morgan on General Hospital.
The longtime actor returned to GH in 2017, after voluntarily leaving Y&R. He reprised the role of Jason, that he played from 1991-2012. Hardcore soap fans also know that Burton’s daytime career started in 1988, when he played Harris Michaels on Days of our Lives.
