The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Friday, August 21 – Billy & Amanda Go Deep – Lola’s Perfect Date

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Friday, August 21, teases that some surprising moments are on the way. At The Grand Phoenix, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) tells someone over the phone that this has to go off without a hitch. After Phyllis spots Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), she pretends this is too important to commit to memory and jots something down on paper.

Phyllis intentionally leaves the paper for Abby, who reads it and realizes it simply says to stop snooping. Abby wants Phyllis to come clean about whatever hole she’s dug herself into. She intends to dig them out and then ownership will revert back to Abby.

Phyllis points out that Abby has no faith in her, so she opts to wait on her announcement. Abby contends that maybe she can help, but Phyllis isn’t buying that. “Not in a million years. Thanks though,” Phyllis quips before walking away.

On Friday’s Y&R episode, Phyllis finds Abby again to deliver advice “from the heart.” She thinks Abby will never get anywhere if she keeps hiding behind her money. Phyllis talks about when battle lines are drawn, she wants to win so bad she can taste it. Abby just throws money at her problems, but Phyllis always works for her wins.

Abby thinks that has to be “the most obnoxious, myopic nonsense” that she’s ever heard from Phyllis. When Abby sells herself as a success story, Phyllis thinks she’s rewriting history.

Abby counters that she left Newman because she would never be taken seriously and wanted to do something on her own. “I have been crushing it,” Abby says. She wants Phyllis to keep doubting her since it fuels her fire.

At Crimson Lights, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) runs into Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). They discuss Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) business trip to Chicago before Kyle tries to dash off to work. Nick gently nudges Kyle to stay and talk, but Kyle really should get back. “Sit down,” Nick finally orders. “It’s not a request.”

Kyle nervously decides to stay, so Nick laughs about his angry dad act. Nick isn’t serious, but he does need Kyle to know what the penalty will be if he breaks his daughter’s heart.

After Kyle teases a plan that’ll help strengthen their commitment to each other, he reveals that he’s now in an open relationship with Summer. “With friends, strangers, what have you…that way no one feels stuck,” Kyle insists.

Nick’s flabbergasted, but Kyle argues that he can come home to his girl at the end of the night. “No strings, no broken hearts,” Kyle adds. Nick’s ready to explode, but Kyle laughs about getting payback.

Kyle just wanted to lighten the mood and insists he’s a different guy since his breakup with Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle). He gets how much he hurt Lola and never wants to hurt anyone like that again – especially not Summer.

Kyle notes that he had feelings for Summer throughout his marriage and tried to hide them, but Lola already knew.

“I know myself better now. I know that Summer and I belong together,” Kyle promises. He loves that Summer can be challenging and feels things deeply. Kyle isn’t going to walk away if it gets tough because no one has ever loved him like Summer.

Nick likes what he’s hearing, but he has to ask if things are truly over between Kyle and his soon-to-be ex-wife. Kyle contends that there’s only one woman in his heart – and that’s Summer. He assures Nick he’s not going to blow this.

At Society, Lola tries to talk to Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) about the tasting menu she’s prepared for him, but he’s far more absorbed in whatever’s on his phone. Lola assumes this is about the job at Chancellor Communications that Theo interviewed for.

Theo admits he’s getting crickets so far, so Lola makes him put his phone on the table so they can stare at it “very hard.” Lola promises it’ll ring soon enough. They try it, but Theo eventually stops and talks about how much he wants this job. The best part would be the fact that he’d be getting it on his own.

Theo wants to do something with his life that means something…something that matters. He makes Lola promise not to tell anyone he said something so sappy, but she looks touched. Lola reflects on her Miami restaurant and feels like it was just detour from what she really wanted to do. She hopes to make a name and a life for herself in Genoa City.

Theo wants his Chancellor Communications job so badly that he dreams of it. All Theo needs is one phone call to turn it all around. Lola worries that Theo’s putting too much pressure on this position, but Theo doesn’t have any other options in GC.

Lola wonders if Theo’s saying he’ll move if he doesn’t get this job. Theo’s sorry for being a “party pooper” and asks for forgiveness, but Lola sees no need for it since he’s going to get this job. Theo’s appreciative of Lola’s faith in him.

At Chancellor Communications, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) tells Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) that Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is all in on hiring Theo.

Amanda’s there to draw up the contract, but Billy’s back to being undecided. Theo’s all the things they’re looking for according to Billy, so Amanda wants to know why. “He reminds me of me,” Billy admits. He thinks one Billy is enough!

Amanda doesn’t see why that’d be such a bad thing. Billy runs down the list of why Theo’s such a rulebreaker and a wildcard. “And honestly, who has much that much hair?” Billy wonders. Amanda urges Billy to stop being down on himself and realize he’s not such a bad guy.

Billy wants to shift away from the therapy session, so they pivot back to Theo and whether the red flags are significant enough to turn him down. Since Billy isn’t sure, he changes the subject to Ripley Turner’s (Christian Keyes) imminent sentencing hearing.

Amanda admits part of her is relieved Ripley’s going to get what’s coming to him. However, there’s going to be a day on Amanda’s calendar when Ripley will eventually be released. Amanda would rather Ripley never see the light of day again.

Amanda hates that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) took the knife meant for her, but Billy won’t let Amanda blame herself. Billy notes that he’s the reason Amanda and Victoria were connected in the first place.

After Billy reflects on meeting Amanda, he argues that he took advantage of their friendship. Amanda insists she wanted to be there and enjoyed that friendship, so Billy admits he knows.

After Amanda gets a text from Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), she says she should probably respond. Billy points out that Nate has to come first. Later, Billy asks what Amanda would do about Theo. She wants Billy to figure out if the chemistry is right and if Theo can take Chance Comm to new heights. Can Theo be trusted? Billy decides he knows what to do.

In Friday’s Young and the Restless episode, Kyle runs into Theo at Society and asks about the new job. Theo’s still waiting to hear back, but Kyle wishes him the best and hopes maybe they can get back to being friends one day. “Something like it,” Theo suggests. Theo just wants to be sure Kyle stays in his lane.

Afterward, Billy calls Theo just as Lola reappears. Kyle tells Lola that their divorce will be final soon and wishes her luck. “Even with Theo?” Lola asks. Kyle just doesn’t want anyone to hurt Lola like he did, but Lola won’t let anyone do that. This divorce taught her not to be careless with her heart.

Lola reconvenes with Theo and learns he got the job. Theo takes back everything he said about finding a new gig out of town. When Theo talks about putting their New York extravaganza on hold, Lola wants to skip it entirely.

Theo realizes that won’t impress Lola. She just wants a date that isn’t fancy and thinks they can celebrate Theo’s new job.

Theo promises there’ll indeed be a date, but he doesn’t want to make it all about him. They can share the limelight and make it about lucky they are – “how fortunate for the world that two talented people found each other.”

Back with Amanda, she asks if Billy’s got a hot date. Billy suggests it’s “the hottest” and he’ll be partying all night long. Amanda thinks he’s serious, but Billy chuckles that he just has the kids.

Over with Abby again, she doesn’t need Phyllis’ help and never asked for it. Nick appears as Abby storms out, so he questions Phyllis about what’s up. Nick thinks he earned the right to know Phyllis’ secrets. She was on the fence about telling Nick, but she has an assignment for Nick if he’s up for it.

We’ll provide updates as other Y&R news pops up. The Young and the Restless spoilers say more curveballs are ahead in GC, so keep watching! CDL will have all the Young and the Restless spoilers, updates and news you’re looking for.
