The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Friday, September 4 – Lily Wants Love, Billy Suggests Dating App

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Friday, September 4, teases that some tricks will be up several Genoa City residents’ sleeves. At The Grand Phoenix, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) is working on something big. It could be a gamechanger, but Phyllis can’t tell Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) what it is yet.

In the park, Noah Newman (Robert Adamson) updates Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) on Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) visit to the cottage earlier. He notes that Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) insisted on seeing Adam. Nick gripes about Adam only caring about what Sharon can do for him.

Noah wonders if this is even legit or another one of Adam’s cons. Nick admits Adam’s issues are real, but he doesn’t want Noah in the line of fire. “Son, Adam’s a snake – and he doesn’t fight fair and it never ends well,” Nick warns.

Noah worries it as a mistake to return to London after the Newman gala. Nick argues that Sharon wouldn’t want to hold Noah back. They’ve got it covered and will do whatever it takes to keep Adam out of Sharon’s life for good.

Noah brings up Nick’s reunion with Phyllis and how they tend to get a little crazy. He wants Nick to keep his guard up since crazy can pop up again when you least expect it. Nick promises that from now on, he’s going to be crazy with Phyllis in the best possible way.

At Society, Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) warns Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) not to turn around when Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico) walks in. Abby turns around anyway and insists she thought Chance got rid of Alyssa. “Why is she here? Why is she following you?” Abby demands to know.

Chance doesn’t think Alyssa has anything solid or else she wouldn’t be sniffing around. Abby offers to get them out of town for a while by booking Hawaii tickets, but Chance decides to find out what Alyssa’s up. Abby’s nervous, but Chance tells her to trust him and saunters over to greet Alyssa in the lounge area.

Chance fake apologizes for blowing off Alyssa earlier and tells her to call him Chance instead of Mr. Chancellor. Alyssa doesn’t think Chance has given her the whole story about “a certain missing guy” in Vegas, so he’s got a confession to make.

Chance confirms that Alyssa knows he used to be a federal agent. The missing man was peripherally involved in a money laundering operation.

“What sort of operation?” Alyssa asks. Chance can’t say since the investigation is ongoing. Alyssa finds that convenient, but Chance notes that it’s still true. By the bar, Phyllis wants to talk to Abby and notices she looks concerned about Alyssa and Chance’s conversation. Abby lies about Alyssa being an old security client of Chance’s, but Phyllis clearly doesn’t buy it.

Back with Chance, he wonders how Alyssa came across this story in the first place. “Just sort of fell in my lap,” Alyssa says with a shrug. Chance finds it hard to believe since Alyssa is a Kansas newspaper reporter, so she comments on him checking into her.

Alyssa notes that Chance left his high-profile government job for security work in Genoa City – and the timing seems interesting. Chance pushes Alyssa about how she ended up working on this story, so she alludes to wondering what Adam had been doing all these years.

Chance realizes this is personal for Alyssa. He claims he’s told her everything he knows and wishes her luck.

After Chance walks away, he texts Adam to ask where he is and adds that they need to meet. Abby rejoins Chance, who doesn’t know if he’s handled it. Alyssa is tenacious – and she isn’t going to give up. Phyllis looks suspicious as she glares at Chance and Abby, then at Alyssa across the room.

At Chancellor Communications, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) protests that he was just giving Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) his opinion “as a friend would do.” Amanda thinks Billy tried to make her DNA test pursuit about Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic). If Amanda chooses to find out she had a sister, that’s her call – not Nate’s and it’s definitely not Billy’s.

Amanda insists Nate isn’t manipulating her, so Billy argues he’s got no beef with Nate. Billy does, however, want to put a name on what he is with Amanda. Are they friends? Colleagues?

Billy has no idea. Amanda considers Billy a friend, but their days of confiding in each other during nights at The Empty Glass are over. They can’t bring that into the workplace. “Message received,” Billy says coldly.

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) catches the end of their debate and wonders if this is something she needs to weigh in on. Amanda insists everything is settled, and Billy agrees that what Amanda says goes. They discuss Amanda’s trip before she takes off. Once Billy’s alone with Lily, he invites her to let him have it since what she witnessed wasn’t keeping things professional.

Lily points out that Billy promised he wouldn’t have an issue when it came to working with Amanda. Billy wonders if Lily wants him to prove there’s no issue by getting on a dating app. Lily thinks that’s silly, but Billy says that’s what he’ll do and starts pulling one up.

Later, Billy’s going through all the dating app’s questions and Lily suggests he’s being ridiculous. Billy argues that Lily’s a buzzkill and vows to start calling her “the enemy of fun.” Lily thinks Billy isn’t fooling anybody. She can tell exactly how Billy’s feeling and that’s anything but fun.

When Lily ended things with Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard), she was ready to swear off relationships forever. Lily mentions her more recent long-distance relationship that didn’t last long.

Billy wants Lily to get on the dating app for some pain-free fun, but she feels it’s impossible to avoid pain. “Life is moving forward and that comes with emotional risks,” Lily insists.

Lily does want to share her life with someone again – someone who holds her close and knows her well. She thinks Billy wants that too and knows it’s worth the risk. Billy argues that Cane was to blame for what happened with Lily.

The situation is different for Billy, who’s been the destructive one. Lily thinks there’s a big, mushy heart underneath, but Billy plans to remain a “lone wolf” and howls.

At Crimson Lights, Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) finds Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) on the patio. Devon’s staring at his phone, which has a “Hevon” picture on it. Elena wonders what Devon’s looking at, so Devon eventually shows Elena the pic.

He admits Amanda asked for help figuring out if her resemblance to Hilary Curtis Hamilton (Mishael Morgan) is more than just a coincidence.

Elena’s perplexed by why Amanda’s looking into this now, so Devon thinks the new medical evidence is just too much to ignore. Elena wonders if Amanda’s trying to get a portion of Hilary’s estate, but Devon shuts down that idea.

He could see the emotion in Amanda’s eyes when she asked for help. Elena apologizes and doesn’t know why she would even think Amanda’s out for money.

Devon’s been thinking about what Hilary would want and how this sister news would’ve affected her. He’s also been thinking about how different things would’ve been for Amanda.

Elena seems uncomfortable over Devon thinking about Amanda’s viewpoint, but Devon’s been in her shoes – growing up in foster care and eventually learning about his connection to the Chancellors.

Devon notes that Hilary and Amanda’s connection is all speculation right now, but he wonders how Elena’s feeling. “Honestly? A little overwhelmed,” Elena admits. Elena worries that if all this is true, Devon might feel like he has a part of Hilary back.

On Friday’s Y&R episode, Devon insists this isn’t like before. He won’t obsess over Hilary or push Elena away. If Elena doesn’t want Devon to help Amanda, that’s fine. Elena should just tell him. However, Elena says she can’t be the person who tells Devon not to do this. This has to be between Amanda and Devon.

More than anything, Devon wants to figure out what Hilary would want him to do. Elena thinks she has an idea of what Hilary would want, but Hilary isn’t there. Hilary can’t make Devon do this and neither than Elena, so Devon has to follow his heart.

Devon still isn’t sure on Friday’s Young and the Restless episode, but Elena warns he’s not obligated to do anything. Devon thanks Elena for giving him clarity and support. When Devon goes to get a coffee refill, Elena sighs and looks at the “Hevon” pic on Devon’s phone.

Nate shows up at Amanda’s suite, where she seems flustered and can’t find her DNA sample. Amanda admits to having a rough day at work due to “Billy being Billy,” but it’s over now.

She finds the DNA sample and offers it, so Nate assumes this means Devon is on board. Amanda admits Devon hasn’t made up his mind yet; she thinks her request hit Devon harder than expected.

Nate thinks he was was being too optimistic that enough time had passed for Devon to be OK with this. Amanda argues that Devon had a reasonable reaction, but Nate brings up how hard it was for Devon when Hilary passed and the year after. He warns they can’t push Devon on this.

Nate fills Amanda in on Devon losing his unborn child with Hilary as well and marrying on her deathbed. It was tragic watching Hilary slip away. Amanda gets emotional and feels guilty for being so casual about her request.

Nate blames himself for not putting more thought into it. Devon’s in a better place, but his wounds haven’t disappeared.

Talk turns to Amanda and Hilary’s birthdays only being a day apart. Amanda’s grateful for Nate’s help and notes that she might have a family to look into when she returns from her trip.
