The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers for Monday, August 17, tease that some hot drama’s ahead in Genoa City. At the penthouse, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) asks Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) if he wants to join her in picking up Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) from the ranch.
Adam isn’t ready to face Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) yet, so Chelsea understands.
Chelsea thinks they can get through this if they stick together. She wants Adam to have faith in himself and in them as a couple. Chelsea suggests Connor’s nanny can take him to a movie he’s been wanting to see.
She thinks that’ll give her a chance to relax with Adam, so they agree to do that later. Adam wants to clear his head first, so Chelsea tells him to do whatever he has to do.
At the ranch, Chelsea sits down with Victor while Connor’s out at the stables. Victor wonders how Adam’s handling everything, so Chelsea admits Adam didn’t sleep much. Adam’s overwhelmed and needs time.
Victor wants Chelsea to let Adam know that his father’s thinking of him, but Chelsea feels like Adam could use some space. She promises to help Adam get through this.
Chelsea acknowledges Victor’s love for his kids and notes that when the unthinkable happened, he flew to Kansas and did everything in his power to help Adam. Victor reflects on his regrets over the years – including how Adam grew up without a father.
Over at Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) place, Adam knocks on the door. Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) opens up and wonders what Adam wants. Sharon pushes Rey to let Adam in and explains that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) threw him out yesterday. Rey gives them privacy, but he warns Adam not to overstay his welcome.
Once Rey’s gone, Sharon apologizes for how Nick handled things. She feels Nick overreacted, but Adam doesn’t care about any of that. Adam cares about Sharon – and that’s why he’s there.
On Monday’s Y&R episode, Adam’s sorry and has been kicking himself for not realizing that she wasn’t feeling well. He admits Nick told him about Sharon’s cancer and surgery.
Sharon suggests she would’ve told Adam if they’d been able to continue their conversation. She fills Adam in on her treatment and how she was keeping her inner circle small. Adam understands that Sharon was doing what was right for her. Whatever he can do for Sharon, Adam wants to do it.
Sharon promises she has great oncologists and a strong support system backing her up. She intends to beat this, but she wants to talk about why Adam reached out. “How can I help?” Sharon asks.
At Crimson Lights, Rey finds Nick and brings him up to speed on Adam’s latest visit. Nick’s frustrated that Adam didn’t listen to his warning. Rey really thought Adam was out of their lives for good, but Nick insists Adam always comes back.
Although Rey claims he’s not jealous and trusts that “Shey” is solid, he’s concerned that Sharon won’t be able to say no to Adam. Nick knows Adam’s been a big part of Sharon’s life – and she’s always going to want to help him.
At the cottage again, Adam wants Sharon to forget he bothered her. Adam pushes Sharon to focus on getting well, but Sharon insists she’s capable of doing what she was trained to do.
Sharon doesn’t want to argue, but she can see Adam’s really struggling. Since Adam’s questioning who he is now, Sharon thinks they should start there.
Adam talks about living as Spider in Vegas. Somehow it was easier to be missing years than it is to be missing this one night. Adam talks about George the caretaker backing up Victor’s claims, but he doesn’t think either one of them can know the real story. That story came from Hope Wilson (last played by Beth Toussaint).
Adam wonders if he really just wanted to get AJ away from his mother or if he wanted him dead and gone forever. Sharon understands Adam’s concerns, but she wants him to take a step back. When Adam came out of his blackout, what did he recall?
Adam reflects on it being strange that they didn’t go to AJ’s funeral. He remembers Victor being in town at the time and realizes that has a different meaning now. Adam mentions that Chelsea thinks he’d be better off not remembering, but he wants to know what Sharon thinks.
Sharon feels like this will all keep eating away at Adam unless he gets to the truth. Adam wholeheartedly agrees and wants to bring these memories into the light.
Sharon doesn’t have experience in this area, but she’s gotten back some of her own repressed memories and knows the techniques from her studies. She’s willing to try being Adam’s therapist.
Adam doesn’t want Chelsea in the loop for now, but Sharon can’t get on board with that. It wouldn’t be a good idea to keep Chelsea or Rey in the dark. They need to know they’ll be meeting together professionally. Sharon could always refer Adam to someone else, but he doesn’t want to talk to a stranger about killing a man.
If Adam’s willing to be open about this, they can get to work right away. Adam vows to think about it and wants Sharon to get some rest. Back with Chelsea, she reflects on her own mistakes with Connor.
Victor thinks what matters is Connor’s loved by both his parents. He wants to move forward – and that’s what Chelsea thinks Adam should do, too.
Victor urges Chelsea to keep reminding Adam of that, but trouble strikes when Chelsea reconvenes with Adam at the penthouse. Adam admits he asked Sharon to help him get his memories back.
Chelsea contends that if Adam goes through with this, it’ll be one of the biggest mistakes he’s ever made. As for Rey, he goes home and wants to talk to Sharon about what happened with Adam.
At Newman Enterprises, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) calls Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and convinces him to come over.
On Monday’s Young and the Restless episode, Jack arrives in Victoria’s office and admits he’s curious. They discuss Newman’s PR spin on Adam “graciously stepping down,” but Victoria suggests the real story is on a need-to-know basis.
Victoria talks about her priority as CEO, which is to restore confidence in the company. She has a strong vision, but she wants to run something by Jack. Once Jack’s brought up speed, he’s impressed and quite eager to team up with Victoria.
Jack knows it’ll benefit them both a great deal. Victoria hints that she wants to announce her return in a big way, so she’s looking forward to this.
At The Grand Phoenix, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) gloats about the lack of noise now that the construction site has been shut down. Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) knows Phyllis is to blame and admits it was well-played.
However, Abby thinks Phyllis should enjoy her victory while it lasts – because it won’t last long!
Abby intends to sit back and wait for Phyllis to do what she’s best at. “Winning?” Phyllis asks. “Self-destructing,” Abby counters. Abby thinks she can swoop right in and take over once Phyllis can’t make her payments anymore.
Phyllis argues that she’ll make tons of money with her new venture and pushes Abby to go find her boyfriend before she doesn’t have one to find anymore.
Abby indeed finds Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz), who seems distracted. Abby quickly senses that Chance is worried about Adam, who’s out as CEO again. Although Abby doesn’t think Adam’s the same man Chance knew in Vegas, she tries to understand Chance’s perspective.
Back with Phyllis, she fills Nick in on her venture. Phyllis wants to create the perfect escape day for women, but she has to figure out what that’d look like. Nick thinks he can show Phyllis and blow her mind up in her suite later.
