The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Monday, September 28, teases that some confessions and memories are coming up. At Crimson Lights, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) reveals her twin status and wonders how Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) feels about discussing Hilary Curtis Hamilton (Mishael Morgan). Amanda would love to hear anything Mariah would like to share.
Mariah recalls initially being hired as Hilary’s assistant at GC Buzz. When Amanda asks if Hilary was a good boss, Mariah admits that’s not exactly how she would describe Hilary.
After Mariah flashes back to Hilary berating her, Amanda’s confused. She thought Mariah and Hilary were friends. Mariah says they were, but Amanda points out that Hilary verbally abused her.
Mariah confesses it wasn’t just verbal and flashes back to Hilary tripping her on the air – then the confrontation where Hilary tried to rip Mariah’s dress off. Amanda doesn’t understand how Mariah and Hilary were friends at all.
Complicated doesn’t begin to describe it according to Mariah. They fought, fought and fought some more, but a friendship ultimately formed.
Mariah remembers visiting Hilary in her hospital bed shortly before she died. Hilary told Mariah she was proud of her, which meant more to Mariah than the times she heard it from other people. Mariah knew she’d earned it.
Talk turns to Amanda being Hilary’s twin, so Mariah asks how they got separated. Amanda’s still trying to figure that out, but she mentions being left at the fire station. Mariah realizes Amanda was the twin who was left behind – the one who didn’t get to be part of a family.
After Mariah notes that’s exactly her own story, she offers a warning. Mariah doesn’t think Amanda should beat herself up over whatever she learns. Amanda listens as Mariah reflects on being an adult when she found out her own twin, Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes), died in an accident at the age of 14.
Mariah and Amanda bond over the sadness they feel through grieving someone they’ve never met. Although Mariah will be around to talk again if Amanda needs her, she suggests Amanda could speak with the person who gave Hilary her first big break in town.
At the park, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) surprises Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) with a romantic lunch. Elena wonders if this is really all for her or if Devon’s feeling guilty over Amanda.
Devon eventually admits it has a little something to do with Amanda. He thought this would be a good opportunity to not talk about Amanda or Hilary, so Elena thinks it’s a nice start.
At Jabot, Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) hoping that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will get Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) to come around on the “Skyle” engagement.
Summer doesn’t think it’ll be hard to get Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) on board and wonders when Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) wants to tell him. Kyle stuns Summer by suggesting this should be a father-son conversation.
Summer admits she thinks it’s a little old-fashioned, but she also feels like it’s kind of adorable. Summer’s sure Kyle can handle Jack, but Jack walks in and wonders what they’re talking about.
Kyle and Summer play it off like they’re concerned about a marketing presentation. Jack ultimately gets the feeling that Summer and Kyle are buttering him up for something.
Kyle denies scheming, but he does want to speak with Jack about something later. Once Kyle leaves, Jack notes that Summer’s looking radiant and jokes about how they’d make a fortune if they could bottle young love. Summer suggests it’s not just for the young, so Jack wonders if she’s trying to say it’s for old people, too.
Summer corrects Jack that she means the young at heart. She thinks maybe Jack’s working too hard and adds that there are hundreds of available women in Genoa City who would kill for a date with Jack Abbott. Summer knows Jack loves being in love and wants to see him happy.
Jack thinks it’s hard to find the right woman, but Summer argues that she’s out there. When Jack finds her, Summer wants him to hold on tight and not let go. Jack thanks Summer for the good advice.
Over at Society, Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) looks glum in the kitchen and flashes back to watching Summer with Kyle just before their official proposal. Lola makes a call and hopes someone will stop by the restaurant later. It turns out it’s Mariah, who pops in and assumes this is important since Lola called instead of texted.
Lola reveals that she dumped Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson). “Did he cry?” Mariah asks. “Oh, please, PLEASE tell me his pompous ass cried when you broke his heart?” Mariah jokes about how she wants to see it if Lola recorded it and then spread it around to the universe.
Lola downplays it, so Mariah suggests this is a pretty disappointing breakup story. Lola contends that they just weren’t working as a couple. Things changed after they hooked up and wanted a clean slate while she waits for her divorce papers to come in.
Lola admits to wondering what could’ve been, so Mariah wonders if Lola still has feelings for Kyle.
On Monday’s Y&R episode, Lola notes that Kyle’s with Summer now. “REALLY with Summer now,” Lola says with a slight chuckle. Mariah asks what Lola means, but Lola just says it feels like a lifetime ago. She wants to leave both Theo and Lola behind. Mariah thinks it’s a great idea to look forward.
Back at Jabot, Jack meets with Amanda and reflects on stopping Hilary from leaving town. He has a flashback and then Amanda marvels over Hilary gaslighting Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John), who still wanted to give Hilary a fresh start.
Jack hired Hilary because of Neil’s recommendation and because of what a talented go-getter she was.
However, Jack admits he eventually became a confidant to Hilary and flashes back to her opening up to him about trying to get pregnant. Jack viewed Hilary as generous and vulnerable at her core – and he misses her.
At Society again, Kyle shows up and Mariah claims Lola is at the farmer’s market. Kyle mentions the divorce papers coming in soon and is glad Lola has a support system. Mariah lets it slip that Theo’s not part of that support system anymore since they broke up. Kyle notes that he’ll always care and be protective of Lola.
Mariah promises to tell Lola that he stopped by. Once Kyle’s gone, Lola steps out of the kitchen looking glum again. She was avoiding Kyle and assumes he wants to get those divorce papers signed as soon as possible.
Mariah knows what Lola needs and asks if Lola trusts her. Lola says no, which makes this more complicated for Mariah – but still, Mariah knows Lola needs a girls’ night out.
Mariah makes a pitch about how they can round up a couple friends for pure, unadulterated fun – or adulterated fun if Lola prefers. Lola decides she’s in since she could indeed use some fun.
At The Grand Phoenix, Phyllis learns Hilary was Amanda’s twin sister. Amanda’s overwhelmed by all her questions and hopes Phyllis can help. Phyllis admits she knew Hilary very well – better than her actual sister.
Hilary and Phyllis were kindred spirits who bonded right away. They were both sort of outsiders and troublemakers who made enemies easier than friends.
Phyllis sees that Amanda’s on the verge of breaking down and thinks they should talk about Amanda instead of Hilary right now. Amanda shares her pain and wishes she’d known Hilary. Maybe she could’ve helped her sister through some of her struggles.
Phyllis doesn’t think Amanda should dwell on the what ifs and reminds Amanda not to fall into the trap of comparing herself to Hilary. Amanda is her own person.
At Jabot again, Kyle updates Jack on his engagement, so Jack’s face falls instantly. He doesn’t understand this rush down the aisle and points out Kyle is still married to Lola, which Kyle views as a “small obstacle.”
Jack doesn’t see why moving in together means they need a wedding. He wants Kyle to prove this is an adult relationship and show some restraint when it comes to Summer. “What’s a little more time?” Jack asks in Monday’s Young and the Restless episode.
Amanda returns to her suite looking emotionally drained, but she smiles after she pulls up another Hilary GC Buzz video on her phone. Back with Devon and Elena, enjoy a lovemaking session at home.
