The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Wednesday, December 30, reveals that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) is obsessing about pre-wedding snacks when Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) intervenes. At Crimson Lights, Tessa convinces Mariah to chill and gets Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) to back her up.
Mariah just wants everything to be perfect for Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) big day, but she settles down before Tessa mentions picking up some Champagne – and sparkling cider for Faith. Faith notes that Tessa doesn’t have to do that, but Tessa insists it’s just as good as the real thing. “Sure it is,” Faith mutters as she looks away.
At Sharon’s place, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) busts Arturo Rosales’ (Jason Canela) chops about the pictures he sent of Mateo Rosales being two weeks old. Kids grow, so Rey wants more recent photos of his nephew.
Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) jokes with her brothers about staying out of this, but Arturo says he’ll text Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez) to send some new pics. Mia wanted to be here for the wedding, but… Rey insists it’s fine and that they’ll be seeing everyone in a few days anyway.
Sharon joins the gang and gets updates on Arturo’s surprise gift. It turns out Arturo took a course online and got his license so he can officiate the ceremony – that is if Rey and Sharon are cool with it. They love the idea and feel this will make the nuptials even more special.
At The Grand Phoenix, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) still wishes Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) were coming with him to the ceremony. Phyllis feels like Sharon’s been through a lot due to her cancer battle and deserves to have her big day be perfect. Having Phyllis there would make it less than according to Phyllis herself.
At Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) penthouse, Chelsea video chats with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey). Connor’s worried about his mom’s surgery and doesn’t even know why they have to operate on Chelsea.
When Connor asks what’s wrong, Chelsea explains that her doctors figured out was causing her headaches and will fix it. She doesn’t want Connor to worry and insists his daddy’s taking real good care of her.
At the Chancellor mansion, Adam shows up and thanks Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) to thank him for taking a bullet for him. Chance says this makes up for Vegas and has heard about Adam’s decision to leave town. There’s nothing tying them together anymore, so there’s nothing left for Chance to say but “bon voyage.”
Abby appears and is immediately irritated by Adam’s presence. What are you doing here?” Abby snaps. Chance notes that Adam won’t be staying. Abby mentions Society being closed for a private party tonight, so Adam will have to spend his New Year’s Eve elsewhere.
Adam insists he has no intention of crashing Sharon’s wedding, but Abby wouldn’t put it past him to stir things up and ruin people’s evenings. As Adam heads out, he assures Chance that he meant his gratitude and urges the happy couple to stay safe.
“How final do you think that goodbye was?” Abby asks Chance once they’re alone. Chance has a feeling he won’t be seeing Adam again, so Abby says he should consider himself lucky. As Adam walks away, he looks pensive.
Back with Chelsea, she assures Connor of her love and promises she’ll be perfectly fine. Chelsea insists that the minute she’s finished with her surgery, she’ll make sure Adam calls Connor to tell him she’s all right – because she will be. After Chelsea hangs up in Wednesday’s Y&R episode, she grips her head in pain.
At the cottage again, Sharon and Rey are on their own video chat with Celeste Rosales (Eva LaRue). Celeste heard about the tamales, which Sharon admits were terrible. Rey argues that they weren’t THAT bad as Arturo and Lola walk over. They tease Rey about already sounding like a married man – and he insists he can’t wait to be married.
Celeste requests some one-on-one time with her future daughter-in-law, so the Rosales fam files out. After Celeste says she wishes she could be there, Sharon promises they understand that Celeste couldn’t get time off work. Celeste will make up for it when Rey and Sharon visit Miami.
Celeste wants Sharon to know how much she admires Sharon. She’s so relieved Sharon’s on the other side of her cancer battle. Sharon couldn’t have done it without the amazing, supportive Rey.
She feels like the luckiest woman in the world. Celeste insists Rey and Sharon both deserve it – then she says they need to get serious. Celeste wants to see that wedding dress!
Sharon takes the laptop upstairs so she can show off the gown she’ll wear that evening. Rey stays downstairs with Arturo and Lola. After Rey admits that what happened between Arturo and Mia was hard on him, he also acknowledges that time has passed – and so has the pain.
Arturo has found happiness with Mia and the family they’ve started. Now Rey’s going to get his happiness, too.
Later, Arturo talks about Mateo being a future Marlins player for sure. He wonders if Rey will be contributing to the league, but Rey contends that he’ll have enough on his plate being Faith’s stepdad.
Arturo asks about Lola next, but she says she’s recently divorced, works nights and has no prospects. “But I will get right on that for you,” Lola jokes.
While Sharon and Rey share a special moment at home, Nick heads to Society and talks to Abby as well as Chance. They fill Nick in on Adam’s visit to the Chancellor mansion earlier.
Abby notes that Adam said something surprisingly nice on his way out – that marriage agrees with them. It proves Adam doesn’t lie about everything according to Abby.
Nick thinks maybe Chance and Abby could sprinkle some of that “happy marriage fairy dust” on Sharon and Rey for good luck. However, Chance doesn’t think Rey and Sharon will need their help.
Over with Adam, he takes Chelsea’s call at Crimson Lights and mentions that he was picking up the dessert she likes. Adam will also pick up dinner before he heads back to the penthouse.
Chelsea thinks Adam’s spoiling her, but he wanted to offer all her favorites before her surgery. Chelsea notes that Adam might be getting a call from the realtor by Connor’s school.
Since Chelsea’s going under the knife, she thought it’d be good to give the realtor Adam’s number, too. Adam seems thrown, but he says that’s a good idea and cuts the call short.
After Adam runs into Phyllis, he finds out that Phyllis is skipping the ceremony. Phyllis wonders if Adam has a little disaster planned for the occasion. Adam says he’s not that guy anymore. “The lies we tell ourselves,” Phyllis quips. She doesn’t buy it when Adam says he hopes Sharon and Rey live happily ever after.
Phyllis talks about how they’ve both had better halves to pull them out of the swap – Nick for her, Chelsea for him. “Or is it Sharon?” Phyllis wonders. She suggests Sharon might be Adam’s better half and talks about how he’s been torn between the two for so long that she can never tell.
Phyllis says that’s over since Sharon’s walking down the aisle. “Does Chelsea know she’s the consolation prize” Phyllis asks. Adam needles Phyllis about her own game of musical chairs with men. If Phyllis were a betting woman she’d bet on “Phick” over “Chadam” any day – because Sharon is Adam’s kryptonite.
Phyllis wonders if Chelsea buys this changed Adam act. She feels there are three things that are certain in this world: death, taxes and Adam being Adam. At the penthouse again, Chelsea’s getting hungry and texts Adam to see if he’s on his way.
Back at Sharon’s place, she’s alone when Mariah, Tessa and Faith come bearing snacks. After the spread’s put out, the ladies all toast and Sharon thanks them for doing this.
Tessa seems taken aback over a text from her agent and excuses herself. Mariah heads to the kitchen for another finger sandwich, which gives Faith and Sharon a moment alone.
Sharon’s grateful that Faith let Rey into their lives and notes that Faith was very brave this year. Faith says she wasn’t really that brave, but Sharon thinks what’s important is they got through it. She wishes peace, joy and something that resembles normalcy for Faith in the new year.
Mariah returns and notices Tessa seems on edge, so Mariah sends Sharon up for all the lotions, potions, scrubs and bubbles she desires. Faith is encouraged to go up as well.
Once Mariah’s alone with Tessa, she assumes the agent had bad news. Tessa admits there’s a gig in New York. It’s a huge venue and the headliner dropped out, but the catch is it’s tonight.
Tessa insists she doesn’t have to go, but Mariah shuts down the discussion and argues that Tessa needs to pack a bag and get on the plane. They can play the demo of Tessa’s song for the wedding and have their own private celebration later.
Tessa’s performance isn’t until midnight, but she has to leave now so she can make it in time. Before Tessa goes, she makes a sweet speech about how when Sharon saved her sister, she saved Tessa, too.
Tessa’s grateful for Sharon’s acceptance and the way Sharon makes it so easy to feel like part of the family.
Tessa promises she’ll dedicate a song to Sharon, Rey, Mariah and Faith at the concert, but Faith’s distracted by her phone during all this. Jordan (Madison Thompson) eventually texts back that she’s curious about the surprise and will be there tonight.
“Can’t wait to party later,” Jordan adds. Faith smiles and then looks over at the Champagne bottles.
At Society, Arturo arrives with Rey and sees Abby. Chance gets introduced to Arturo, who congratulates them on their marriage. Abby wants a minute with Arturo and appreciates the congratulations.
“I guess you kind of did me a favor by cheating on me,” Abby says. She notes that Arturo has a beautiful family – and Abby’s with the man she’s destined to be with.
Arturo’s sorry he hurt Abby and says being a father has changed him. Having a son makes Arturo feel so blessed. Abby gets a little weepy after Arturo walks away, so Chance wonders if she’s OK. Arturo couldn’t have known they were trying to have a baby, so Abby insists it’s fine.
Chance is impressed by Abby’s capacity to forgive and wants to bail on the wedding so he can cuddle up next to Abby by the fire at home. Chance says he’ll tell Rey that sometimes when you get shot, you feel a twinge. Abby suggests it’s a “sexy twinge,” but Chance notes that Rey doesn’t have to know that.
Afterward, Nick teases Rey about being nervous, but Rey just wants to do right by Sharon. After Nick calls Phyllis, he admits to forgetting the wedding present. Nick asks Phyllis to come save her, so she agrees to pitch in.
Faith and Mariah show up in Wednesday’s Young and the Restless episode – following by Sharon, who’s looking as lovely as ever in bride mode. Tessa’s song plays as the wedding gets started. “Let us begin,” Arturo declares. Adam appears in the doorway and gazes toward Sharon in the restaurant.
