The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is already a pretty damaged soul, but that damage is about to get even worse. Once Adam accepts that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) told the truth about what happened in Kansas, that’ll bring more issues for Adam to tackle.
It’s one thing for Adam to land in tight spots and make choices that end in disaster as an adult. Adam never meant for anyone to get hurt in Las Vegas, but he stepped up to protect Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) and things spiraled out of control. Someone’s husband is dead because of Adam, but he can wrap his head around that as a grown man.
Adam’s bound to see a pattern when he realizes he killed AJ Montalvo as just a boy. Although young Adam was merely protecting Hope Wilson (last played by Beth Toussaint), Adam’s bound to see this as some kind of deep-seated urge to kill.
Of course, Adam will also have to adjust his way of thinking about Victor. It’s always been this dance between Adam and Victor – a game that Adam likes to play. Adam’s been trying to show Victor they’re just alike by sinking to his father’s level, but Victor’s been protecting Adam since he was a kid.
Victor could’ve thrown this AJ revelation in Adam’s face at any moment over the years, but he chose to spare Adam that emotional trauma. Who will help Adam work through this nightmare?
Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) should try, but it could be hard for Adam to open up to her. Adam may be scared of pushing Chelsea away if he lets all his walls down during this traumatic time.
This might be a good opportunity to renew Adam and Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) friendship. Phyllis certainly knows what it’s like to hit rock bottom! She’s been there many times before, but she consistently manages to rise above whatever crisis she’s facing.
Phyllis could even relate to Adam’s complicated feelings toward Victor since she loathes the guy but accepts that Summer Newman (Hunter King) loves her grandpa. There’d be some good reasons for Phyllis and Adam to reestablish their bond.
Phyllis might take pity on Adam since she considered him a pal not too long ago. Adam and Phyllis could let go of their animosity and reconnect. After all, Phyllis and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) are going to need an obstacle or two! This would be a great one since Nick hates Adam’s guts and would inevitably object to Phyllis coddling him.
Even so, Phyllis has experience with feeling judged and trying to move past mistakes. Adam and Phyllis’ friendship made perfect sense considering they’re so similar. A renewed friendship could even lead Phyllis and Adam into romantic territory if that’s how Y&R writers choose to take things.
Regardless, we could see Phyllis give Adam some comfort and upset Nick in the process. It’s easy to imagine Adam coming between Phyllis and Nick down the road. As other Y&R news emerges, we’ll pass along updates.
