The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Billy Miller (Billy Abbott) and Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) haven’t been seen on the show since 2014. However, both actors maintain strong fan followings.
Devoted soap opera viewers know that many actors have often returned to casts they were once part of. Daytime, in particular, allows this practice to be possible. It makes sense, based on the longevity of shows and the need for weekly content.
Change will continue when the current production shutdown ends and new shows are produced. So, as that happens and with whatever the odds, would you like to see Miller and Muhney back on Y&R and if so, in what roles?
Young And The Restless Spoilers – The Case For Billy Miller
Miller debuted on Y&R in 2008. His stellar performances earned him three Daytime Emmy Awards (2010, 2013, and 2014).
Among many events, Villy became a power couple, Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono) and Johnny Abbott (Ryan and Holden Hare) were born, with Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) to follow.
A love story with Vickie Newman (Amelia Heinle) and the growth of an explosive rivalry with Adam were just two plot lines that helped to define Miller’s run. The length of Miller’s tenure and the power of his presence allowed his reign to be memorable.
Miller’s continued success in daytime continued on General Hospital, where he played Jason Morgan-Drew Cain from 2014-2019, while also earning another Emmy nomination in 2018.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – The Case For Michael Muhney
Muhney debuted on Y&R in 2009. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2013.
Despite his sole nomination, Muhney was one of the most celebrated Y&R actors during a run that ended on the same episode as Miller’s did in early 2014.
Muhney’s Adam drove this character dark, including the now legendary start of a feud with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). This actor’s efforts with Sharon Case (Sharon Newman) and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Newman) were quite simply intoxicating.
Adam is still believed to have accidentally killed Delia. He also became the father of Riley Newman (Malachi Barton), who died before birth, and Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) during Muhney’s tenure as this character.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Recast Or New Character?
Seeing either actor in a new role would be jarring. However, both men surely have the chops to play whoever on any soap, or another role in any entertainment genre.
Jason Thompson (Billy) and Mark Grossman (Adam) weren’t known to be leaving the cast, prior to the shutdown. There’s no reason to believe that’s going happen when production restarts.
But imagine a hypothetical scenario where Y&R opts to change both characters. The timed return of each actor would fuel momentous buzz across the industry, recapture the interest of former fans, and draw new viewers. If only one actor returned, the focus on that specific reprisal would also be tremendous.
Bringing back either actor in a new role would be risky, as is often true when any actor agrees to do so. However, among others, Camryn Grimes (now playing Mariah Copeland) and Mishael Morgan (now playing Amanda Sinclair) demonstrate that it can be done and done so marvelously. Miller and Muhney would be positioned to succeed as well.
