TLC 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days spoilers tease that David Murphey just isn’t listening to reason. David had been looking forward to meeting his Ukrainian love, known simply as “Lana,” whom he has been chatting with online for several years. But in recent episodes, viewers have seen David get disappointed time and time again. David was supposed to meet Lana on more than one occasion, and she failed to show each time.
Well, on the sneak peek for Sunday’s all-new episode that recently dropped on TLC GO, David sadly returns home from his travels abroad. “I thought I was going to come back as an engaged man,” David says in the confessional.
And it seems like he seriously believes this, even though viewers have pretty well figured out by now that the “Lana” that David believes in just isn’t real.
David is greeted at the airport by his friend named Jim. Jim seems like a nice guy, but clearly a guy who is more grounded in reality than David is. David explains that Lana no-showed on him, that he went to her house and it wasn’t her house, and that ever since then, Lana has gone dark online. “What a surprise,” Jim says.
And as viewers hear more from Jim, it becomes clear that he doesn’t believe that Lana is a real person, yet he’s kind to David over the whole thing. “I think emotionally he’s a bit lost right now,” Jim says in the confessional. “He’s hurt. He really believed that this was a real relationship and it’s turned out not to be, so I feel sorry for him.”
Once home, David reunites with his cat Mothra, and David and Jim talk in the living room. David goes on about how upset he is that Lana lied to him, and about how he needs closure in this situation. “Because I’m still thinking about it,” David tells Jim. “I want to find out what she was thinking and what led up to this.”
David then tells Jim that he’s going to hire a private investigator, and Jim tells David that at some point, he’s just got to say that Lana’s fake, and that he can’t get closure if she’s not real. But David insists that Lana is real, and the previews for next Sunday’s episode show David working with a private investigator to track down Lana.
Well, at one point in Jim’s interaction with David, it almost sounds like he’s starting an intervention. “There’s got to be an ending to this,” Jim says in the confessional. “Dave’s gotta give up.” And then to his face, Jim tells David, “Myself and all your friends, we don’t want to see you go down this path. It’s time to go on.”
But then David pushes back a bit, and Jim appears to back off. Well, this all has us wondering whether David needs a full-scale intervention. Perhaps David’s friends and family need to get together and lay it all on the line with him.
On the other hand, maybe David getting a private investigator into the mix is a good idea – seeing evidence that there is no Lana might be the only way to convince David at this point.
Of course, the only problem with that is that David seems prone to taking even disconfirming evidence and somehow converting it into confirming evidence that Lana is real.
We’ll see what happens when the private investigator ultimately can’t find Lana, which is what’s almost certainly what’s going to happen here. Whatever the case, David needs to undergo a major shift in his thinking.
