Bash sought treatment. He finally came to this decision because he knew his blackouts were getting worse and that he needed treatment. Bash was suffering from PTSD. PTSD stood for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bash was suffering from it because he had been a doctor in Syria. Syria was going through a civil war. The civil war was disastrous for everyone and being a doctor there meant Bash had to see a lot. Bash has treated patients who were blast victims, at risk of chemical exposures, and he also lost friends there because of the civil war that’s been going on for several years now.

Bash has seen what hell on earth looks like. He’s experienced so much professional and personal pain that his mind sought to protect him from it and it buried things he should have dealt with. Bash never dealt with his emotional turmoil. He thought he could suppress it forever and he couldn’t. His mind could no longer protect him. Bash was finally experiencing all the pain he’s buried and that’s where the blackouts were coming in. Bash would see something or hear something and it would bring him back to his time in Syria. Bash’s latest blackout had happened when he treated a woman with chemical burns.

Bash had been treating her with his mentor’s help. Dr. Bishop had been there with him the whole time and so he was the first to notice that Bash was distracted when they should have been focusing on the patient. Bishop had to actually call Bash’s several times before Bash returned to himself. Bash remembered where he was and he went back to treating the patient, but this time was different because this time another doctor witnessed his blackout. Bishop later asked Bash what happened. The other doctor had his suspicions and so he wasn’t asking for Bishop to downplay what happened or justify it.

Dr. Bishop was asking for Bash to tell him that “yes, there was a problem” and that he’ll treat it. Only Bash hadn’t been ready for that yet. Bash hadn’t been ready to admit that he had a problem and so it took him meeting Nicole to change his mind. Nicole had been a patient of Bash’s. She was also a prisoner and so she came into the hospital because she got into a fight with her fellow prisoner. Nicole was getting out soon. She was in prison because she killed a man while she was high on drugs and nowadays she feels remorse. She regrets what she did. She wishes she can change it and that’s why she’s being allowed out. And unfortunately, some were haters.

Nicole got into several fights. It was the only last one she told the guards about and so it was the only the last one that was being treated. Nicole received bandages. She even received antibiotics and it wasn’t until she was paralyzed that anyone realized she was suffering from other injuries. Injuries she received from the other fights. Nicole had been stabbed with a needle and the needle wound caused an infection. This infection spread throughout her body. It caused paralysis. It also almost killed her and it would have if Nicole had anything to say about it. Nicole hadn’t wanted to be treated. She gave up hope and she soon fell into a coma. And so Bash made a judgment call.

Bash chose to use every measure to save Nicole’s life. She was in no position to fight him because she was in a coma and so he did what was right for her. He also realized that sometimes people don’t realize what’s best for them. Bash didn’t want to be like that anymore and so he sought therapy. He told the therapist that his recent blackout had taken him to a time where he found his mother dead on the floor. She had been killed. Bash had found her too late and he’s been living with guilt ever since. He knows that he’s not enough. He wasn’t enough to save his mother and he knew he wasn’t enough to raise his sister. His sister Amira lost both parents and he was a poor substitute.

Bash’s first therapy session had been about Amira. He was worried for her and he had every right to be because he knew she wasn’t happy. He and Amira were living with his friend Theo. Theo didn’t mind having them around. He liked being able to come home to someone and it’s not like his family was moving in anytime soon. Theo had a talk with his wife. He told her he wanted to stay in the city. He also told her he applied for a permanent place there and she had flipped. She didn’t want to leave her family, her friends, or her career there. Mel was happy where she was. She and Theo had planned for him to move back home and so she didn’t understand why he was suddenly changing their plans now.

Only Theo loves his work at the hospital. He was even assisting June over the phone because he missed it so much. June was dealing with a teenager with lead poisoning and the teenager refused to say at first what he had been exposed to. June had to speak to him as former weird to another weird kid. She got her patient to confess that he’s been eating his grandfather’s old fishing material because he was sad that his grandfather died and so she was able to treat him as well as offer him a psychiatric consult.

June doesn’t know how Theo does it. She felt tired out with just the one case and so lucky for her Mags came around offering her what she wanted. Mags included June as a consult because she knew that it would mean June gets to follow the patient into the OR and there wasn’t a single person who didn’t know that June wanted to be a surgeon.

June was in such a good mood afterward that she took Mags out for drinks and the two women were quickly becoming real friends. And not just work friends.

THE END!
