Eventually, Prince Charles will become King when Queen Elizabeth passes away or if she steps down from the throne (which she has no intention of doing, according to the woman herself). Royal Engagement – February 9, 2020, marked the 15-year anniversary of Charles and Camilla’s royal engagement. The pair walked down the aisle on April 9, 2005. Once they tied the knot, Camilla took the title of Duchess of Cornwall rather than Princess of Wales. Now 71 years old, the public is wondering if one day she could become queen.
Princess Consort Title – In 2005, there were specific instructions on what should happen to Camilla’s title if and when Charles took over the throne. A press release stated,
“It is intended that Mrs. Parker-Bowles should use the title HRH The Princess Consort when The Prince of Wales accedes to The Throne.”

Camilla Parker-Bowles Has a Complicated History – The reason why this requirement was issued by a press release was due to the complicated and controversial relationship between Charles and Camilla. They met back in 1970 and fell in love. However, she wasn’t considered a suitable bride for Charles. Then, he went into the Armed Forces and the two broke up. When he came back home, he was heartbroken to find she had married someone else.
Nobody had any idea at the time that years later they would reconnect and one day, she would be his bride following the death of Princess Diana.
Change in Plans for Duchess of Cornwall’s Future – People magazine is reporting that could change in the future, though. The titling requirement for Camilla’s future was removed from the Royal Family’s website several years ago. There are those that believe she will take the title of Queen Consort rather than Princess Consort. However, it probably won’t be announced until the days following Charles’ taking over the throne.
