The case against David Hodges was going forward. He was experiencing a speedy trial because of his former position in the Crime Lab and how it could overturn several convictions if he’s found guilty. But David has friends in high places. They were all looking into the case against him and they wanted to prove he was framed by Anson Wix. Wix framed Hodges so that he could represent all the “wrongfully” convicted men and win a big payout. Winx was counting on that money. Its why he was taking large enough risks like murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was prepared to do anything to take down Hodges if it meant he would get a bigger payday out of it. What Wix failed to realize is that the Crime Lab wasn’t just going to accept evidence forced together. They were going to keep looking until they found the truth.
Its what they would have done with any of their cases. The Crime Lab was also investigating the murder of a couple who believed in extreme body modifications. The woman had angel wings attached to her back and the man had devil horns attached to his skull. They were both thrown down a pit before being set on fire. But the woman died first. There was no soot in her lungs and so she died before she was in the fire. There was no telling what killed the woman. The fire decomposed everything pretty quickly. The team just knew she was dead by time she was dumped down that hill and was set on fire. The man on the other was alive when he was forced down the hill. His hands were bound. He tried to shield the woman’s body with his own. And that’s how they were found.
The couple worked with a freak show act. The sharp object that killed the woman seemed like it was once belonged to her husband and partner at the freak show, but he died with her and so he couldn’t be the killer. The couple has a son. The son inherited the blade when his parents died. Only he couldn’t find it. He still thinks its with the freak show people. The team was working to find the couple’s killers when Hodges’s case once again took focus. Hodges was being pushed into taking a plea. The attorney general of the state didn’t want every conviction to get overturned. He wanted Hodges to confess to tampering six cases and he could get out of prison in 12 years on good behavior.
If Hodges agreed to take the plea deal, he would also be out in time to see his son grow up. Hodges’s wife has been put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy and so Hodges finds himself alone in court defending himself. He has his lawyer. He has friends who have to sit apart from him. But he wants his wife there. He wants the truth to come out and he hates seeing Wix in court everyday with a smug look on his face. Wix was enjoying what he was doing. He didn’t care he was ruining an innocent man’s life or that dangerous criminals will be released. He only cared about the money from the settlement. Wix also found out the team had been talking with his co-conspirator. And he killed Guillermo.
Guillermo was their last chance. He was later found murdered and his tongue was cut out. The place had been killed like a professional following the murder. There was no evidence to trace and there were back at dead ends with everything else. There was no way to prove Wix’s guilt. Plus, Hodges made everything worse by confessing to the crime. He made a video of himself and mailed it to the judge. They tried to get into contact with Hodges after seeing this video and no one could find him. Hodges was just gone. He wasn’t answering his phone and the video was suspect because he named-checked Grissom. Grissom doesn’t take confessions at face value. He’s highly suspicious that way and so he suspects something else was going on. He thinks Hodges was forced into a confession. And he wants to look for his friend.
Grissom handed over the video confession to an expert. The expert determined when and where the video was made. It was made that same morning, but it was created across the street from the hospital where his wife was being held on bed rest and so the team went there. They found the building where the video was filmed. They also found the pliers that was used on Guillermo to rip out his tongue. Hodges had been grabbed and his potential killer has killed several times before. But no one is giving up on Hodges. They’re going to keep looking for him until they either found him or his remains.
The End!
