Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton) recently decided to share his opinion on a debate DOOL fans have been having for years. Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) went on quite a mission to find her previously presumed dead husband, EJ DiMera (last played by James Scott).
Naturally, that didn’t stop fans of the Lucas and Sami pairing from believing they belonged together all along. Since there are plenty of people on both sides of this “Lumi” vs. “EJami” war, Dattilo used his Twitter account to make a bold declaration.
He started 2021 on a note of controversy by insisting that Lucas and Sami reign supreme!
Let’s look at what Dattilo had to say in his tweet, which brought some strong reactions from Days of Our Lives viewers. “Sami and Lucas are soap royalty,” Dattilo insisted. “Sami and E.J. Are just a couple from the past.”
Of course, that brought out the Lucas and Sami fans out in full force to support Dattilo’s claim. “#lumi have the history, legacy, and chemistry to be the next leading supercouple. They deserve their chance to shine!” one DOOL viewer replied.
“Since 1993…this has been the truth. Lumi was the blood sweat and tears of my 90s soap couple shipping and I always wanted (their) happiness to last longer than it did,” another fan chimed in.
However, not everyone was on the same page about Sami and EJ being ancient history. To be fair, Alison Sweeney and James Scott did have fantastic onscreen chem when they were in that pairing. EJ and Sami sometimes brought out the worst in each other, but they also made for an entertaining duo in Salem.
“Very funny. Sami and Lucas are the past. Samantha grew and was able to be herself when she was with EJ,” one fan insisted. “Ehhh, no… Sorry…I never saw Sami love anyone the way she loved EJ. If/when he doesn’t come back, hoping Sami & Lucas find new loves,” another Days viewer said.
That brings up an interesting point since Days of Our Lives seems hesitant to bring EJ back on canvas. James Scott has made it clear that he’s never returning to the NBC soap or Hollywood in general for that matter.
Without Scott’s good looks and charm, even some “EJami” lovers might feel like the couple indeed needs to be left in the past.
There’s no guarantee the show could recreate a new version of EJ and Sami’s pairing that works the same way. Meanwhile, we’ve got Sweeney returning for a long-term stint soon and Dattilo is on contract again. Sami and Lucas could easily fall back in love if that’s the route the writers want to take.
