Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Friday, December 24, reveals that Gabriel (Mark Colson) had a secret weapon for John Black (Drake Hogestyn), which led to Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) getting knocked unconscious after an attack. Let’s talk about John’s epic showdown with Marlena and all the other DOOL drama that happened on Friday’s Days episode.
First, Belle Brady (Martha Madison) asked “what the hell” was going on as she confronted Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) in bed with a woman who looked just like her. Shawn was confused until “Belle” suddenly appeared as her true self.
“Oops,” Jan Spears (Heather Lindell) said as she remained under the covers. She admitted to having a scheming partner, so Belle realized the devil was working with Jan and fumed over the news.
Belle wondered who was in Jan’s hospital bed, but Jan didn’t think it mattered. Instead, Jan wanted to focus on the wonderful moment she just shared with Shawn – and on his anniversary no less!
Jan gloated about the sheets still being warm and gleefully invited Belle to join the two of them.
Shawn argued that the only place Jan was going was to jail. He placed her under arrest and eventually led her into the police station wearing handcuffs.
Belle and Shawn grilled Jan about where possessed Marlena was, but Jan didn’t know and wouldn’t tell them even if she did. She felt she had the devil to thank for this glorious day, so Belle ultimately called Jan a “crazy bitch.”
Jan took great satisfaction in knowing that the image of her time with Shawn was burned into Belle’s head. She felt Belle would never be rid of it and added that they were bonded for life now.
At the townhouse, John still didn’t know where Marlena was and talked to Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) on the phone about needing a miracle.
After John hung up, he opened the door to Gabriel aka “Gabe” – the same guardian angel from the original possession story and from the cabin recently.
Gabriel wasn’t supposed to intervene, but John didn’t have time for riddles and convinced him to make an exception. That led to Gabe revealing that Marlena was with Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) and Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes).
Gabriel also gave John a special medal to give him strength and assured John that he could drive the devil away if he didn’t lose faith. After John embraced Gabriel, he prepared for the battle ahead at the Horton house.
Meanwhile, Julie put out the Christmas tree fire and warned the devil wasn’t welcome there. Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) also refused to let possessed Marlena lay a finger on his wife.
Ben insisted that Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) and their child were all that mattered to him, so he intended to protect them with every ounce of his soul.
Marlena warned that she had come for the baby and added that she always gets what she wants. When Ben said Marlena would have to kill him first, Marlena said that could be arranged.
In fact, Marlena hinted she might kill Doug and Julie too since she really only needed Ciara to walk out of there alive.
Marlena eventually brandished two flaming torches, but John appeared behind her and snuffed them out. As John held up the medal he got from Gabriel, he vowed not to let the devil hurt the people he loved.
John knocked the torches out of Marlena’s hands by holding up the medal and summoning its strength.
“Forgive me, Doc!” John shouted as he used the medal to fling Marlena and knock her out. Ben helped John get unconscious Marlena in the car and told the others that John insisted on handling this alone.
At the DiMera mansion, Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) caught Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) off guard as they were discussing the kids’ Christmas toys.
Abigail didn’t think Jack would be able to fly back due to bad weather, but Jack caught a flight after all – and he brought Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves) home with him.
Abigail was thrilled over the surprise as she hugged her mom. Although Jennifer suggested she wasn’t quite finished wrapping up all the estate drama in Boston, she couldn’t wait to spend Christmas with the family.
Jennifer, Jack, Chad, Abigail, Thomas DiMera (Cary Christopher) and Charlotte DiMera (Autumn Gendron) all headed to the Horton house, where Julie and Doug refused to let Christmas be ruined.
The tree was trimmed as usual before Jennifer offered up a new angel topper she found in Laura Horton’s (Jaime Lyn Bauer) belongings.
At the hospital, Steve and Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) compared notes on missing Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams).
With Kayla Johnson’s (Mary Beth Evans) permission, Steve got on her computer to look at hospital security footage since Tripp never clocked out after his night shift.
That led to Steve realizing some of the security footage had been erased. He determined that it happened right after Marlena’s attack on Kayla and feared the devil had done something to Tripp.
Belle ultimately called Steve to let him know the person in Jan’s hospital bed wasn’t really her.
Tripp looked like his usual self when Allie and Steve found him, but he was still in a coma. Allie reminded Tripp of her love and urged him to come back to her along with Steve.
Tripp woke up wondering what happened, but Steve advised his son not to worry about that right now.
At the Salem PD on Friday’s Days episode, Shawn told Belle he was so sorry about the Jan confusion.
Belle was upset, but she didn’t blame Shawn since the devil literally made him do it. They decided that Jan did her worst, but they were still together and always would be.
Back at the townhouse, Marlena was restrained on the bed as John sat nearby. “I hope these accommodations are to your liking,” John told the devil inside his wife.
