Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Monday, January 4, reveal that Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) and Claire Brady (Isabel Durant) had lunch at Julie’s Place and talked about what they did for New Year’s Eve.
Claire said that Charlie Dale (Mike C. Manning) had worked that evening, so she spent the night alone. Allie said that she still had the feeling that she knew Charlie from someplace, and she urged Claire to call Charlie to get together.
Meanwhile, over at Charlie’s apartment, Charlie fed soup to Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun), and Ava wondered what Charlie’s plan for her was. Charlie admitted that he was planning on having Ava committed, and he revealed that he’d been drugging her food with powerful hallucinogens.
Ava was horrified, and she insisted that she’d tell the doctors that she was drugged.
Charlie scoffed, saying that Ava would lose all her faculties, and that having her committed was the only solution. Soon, Claire called and wondered if Charlie could take a break and meet her at Julie’s Place. Charlie put the gag back on a now-drugged Ava and left to go meet Claire.
When Charlie got to Julie’s Place, Allie was preparing to leave. Charlie entered and engaged in some small talk with both Claire and Allie, and as Allie was getting ready to walk out, Charlie said, “Arrivederci!” and Allie stopped in her tracks.
Over at the DiMera mansion, Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) fumed at Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller) and Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash). “You were right where I expected you to be – I know what’s going on between you two!” Chad grumped.
Chad whipped out the room receipt from the Salem Inn and confronted Abigail with the “evidence” of her affair with Jake.
Abigail was stunned, and she adamantly denied booking a room but couldn’t explain the receipt. Chad yelled, “Stop denying it! You booked a room at the Salem Inn!”
After a considerable amount of yelling, Abigail ordered Jake to go so that she could deal with Chad alone. “Get out of my house!” Chad yelled after Jake as he left.
Abigail took control and told Chad that there was nothing going on between her and Jake, and that the person that Jake is having an affair with is Kate DiMera (Lauren Koslow).
Chad was stunned, but he wondered how Abigail would explain the fact at Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) saw her kissing Jake. Abigail said that she never kissed Jake.
Chad brought up the bracelet, and that Gwen said Jake bought it for Abigail. Abigail said that she didn’t have the bracelet, and that it was intended for Kate.
Chad wondered why Gwen would lie, and Abigail said that maybe it has something to do with the secret folder that Gwen has on the Deveraux family. Chad looked ill, and he and Abigail headed downstairs to talk with Gwen.
Meanwhile, down in the living room, Gwen told Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) that the newspaper clippings belonged to her. Jack probed for why Gwen was in possession of the clippings, and Gwen said that she just wanted to get to know the family.
Jack then called out Gwen on giving conflicting marital advice to him and Jennifer Deveraux (Cady McClain), as well as being present when Abigail found the letter that he had written to Kate.
Gwen acted coy and didn’t really answer any of Jack’s burning questions. Jack said that nothing was more important to him than his family, and that he’d protect them.
Gwen made a crack about nobody hurting their family more than Jack had, and Jack got menacing, telling Gwen that she didn’t want to make an enemy of him.
After Jack left, Abigail and Chad entered the room to confront Gwen. Gwen went on the offensive, saying that she heard that Abigail went through her things last night.
Abigail demanded to know why Gwen had the clippings, and Gwen again said it was to get to know the family better. Chad thought that sounded reasonable.
Abigail then asked why Gwen said that she saw her kissing Jake when it wasn’t true. Gwen admitted that she made the whole thing up. Chad was horrified, saying “If I would have known that was a lie…” and then he trailed off, not finishing his sentence. Abigail turned to Chad and asked him to finish his thought.
In town square, Jennifer asked Kate if she was ashamed of Jake, and Kate said no, but that she was embarrassed of herself. Kate admitted that she actually had feelings, and that people would talk about the “cougar” pouncing on the hot young guy.
Jennifer wondered how much Jake was worth to Kate, and she said that Kate should get over herself.
Jake then came along, and Jennifer took off. Jake told Kate that Chad and Abigail were talking right now, and that Chad would soon know the truth about them. Kate said, “What if I don’t want it to be over between us?” and Jake said that he wasn’t going to sneak around anymore, and besides, Kate was ashamed of him.
“I’m not ashamed,” Kate said, explaining that she was just wary about looking predatory or desperate, and that she could get past it because Jake was worth it. “I wouldn’t mind being public if there’s still an us,” Kate said. Jake kissed Kate. “Does that answer your question?” Jake asked happily.
Finally, at the Horton house, Jack and Jennifer met up, and he relayed that he picked up his things from the DiMera mansion. Jack also disclosed that he had a run-in with Gwen, and that they might be onto something. “Gwen might be a bigger problem than we thought,” Jack said.
