Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Thursday, December 16, reveals that Gwen Rizczech’s (Emily O’Brien) London escape will be derailed while Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) discovers Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) alive. Let’s talk about Thursday’s DOOL drama and how it all went down.
In the hotel suite she’s been sharing with Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), Gwen looked out the window and panicked over Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder) sitting in the town square.
Xander came in after retrieving a newspaper and wondered who had Gwen in such a tizzy.
Gwen lied that it was a coffee cart guy who’d been “wolf-whistling” at her and telling her she had a “nice ass,” but she urged Xander not to confront him. Xander wanted to grab a meal at the pub, but Gwen feared a Rex run-in and kept making phony excuses.
Gwen eventually took her top off to seduce Xander, so he forgot all about his appetite and was eager to hit the sheets with his girlfriend.
Afterward, Xander showered while Gwen formed a new plan to keep him away from Rex. She couldn’t let Rex spill anything that might lead to Xander finding Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and dumping her.
When Xander emerged fresh and clean, Gwen suggested they should get out of town for a while and had a solution to their lack of funds. She had a friend in London with a lovely flat who promised she was welcome anytime.
Gwen also had a bunch of miles that were set to expire, so she said they could use those for plane tickets.
Xander wasn’t thrilled about the location since London isn’t exactly balmy this time of year, but Gwen ultimately sold him on the idea. They packed quickly and prepared to catch their imminent flight on Thursday’s Days episode.
Meanwhile, Rex and Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) gave Kate plenty of support as they sat at a table in the town square.
Kate struggled with regrets over how she treated Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) before DA Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) summoned her to the police station.
Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) opened up to Maggie Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) about his own regrets over Philip and got summoned to the Salem PD as well.
Once Victor and Kate were in the interrogation room, DA Melinda Trask encouraged them to sign papers that legally declared Philip dead – that way she could move forward with Brady Black’s (Eric Martsolf) arrest.
Victor was hesitant since it meant turning against Brady, but Kate argued that Philip was the one who deserved Victor’s loyalty. She pushed Victor to sign – and later, Victor admitted to Maggie that he indeed signed his grandson’s life away.
Brady found Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin) at Basic Black, where he admitted Belle Brady (Martha Madison) found out he ordered six shots of whiskey at the pub. Brady didn’t remember ordering or drinking them, but he didn’t want to hide anything from Chloe.
With that in mind, Brady also confessed to ordering a drink at the bar recently. He assured Chloe that he never drank a drop and called Maggie for help, but Chloe wondered what drove Brady to drink in the first place.
Brady confessed it was because of Chloe and worried he might’ve done something to get Philip out of the way. Even so, Brady didn’t want to believe he’d gone that far and felt he had to get answers.
Brady insisted on trying to jog his memory at the riverbank, so Chloe went with him.
While Brady was there, he began to hear himself groggily shouting Philip’s name. Chloe could tell Brady was remembering something as Brady thought back to telling Philip to get his hands off him.
Suddenly, Trask showed up to announce that Brady was under arrest. Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) was forced to put the cuffs on Philip and read him his rights.
Back with Roman, he suggested that maybe Philip found a way to disappear for a while. Rex wasn’t as optimistic that Philip would ever be seen alive again.
Rex headed for the pub with Roman, but he returned for his phone soon after. That put Rex right in Xander and Gwen’s path, so a stunned Xander called out Rex’s name in surprise.
As for Kate, she filled Roman in on having Philip declared legally dead and wanted to be alone for a while. When Kate entered her room on Thursday’s Days episode, she gasped in shock.
Philip was sitting there on the bed looking mighty pleased with himself for pulling off his murder setup.
Days of Our Lives spoilers say Kate and Philip will argue over what he’s been up to soon enough, so stick with DOOL.
