Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Thursday, October 21, reveals that Carmine Merlino (Richard Stevens) shot Abe Carver (James Reynolds) while Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) offered police help to Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). John Black (Drake Hogestyn) also listened to Doug Williams’ (Bill Hayes) tape, so here’s how all the DOOL action played out.
At Paulina Price’s (Jackée Harry) place on Thursday’s Days episode, Abe insisted Paulina could take the lead on wedding decisions.
All Abe really cared about was making Paulina happy, but she wanted real help deciding things.
Abe pushed for Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) as the officiant since he’d already discussed it with her in the past.
Since Abe performed John and Marlena’s wedding ceremony, Marlena made Abe promise to let her return the favor if the time ever came.
Paulina had a flashback of spilling her secrets to Marlena and was nervous about this choice, but she knew it was important to Abe and went along with it.
Meanwhile, Lani Price-Grant (Sal Stowers) fed Eli another slice of pie at home. After lovemaking, Lani addressed Paulina’s recent idea to call her “Mom” and insisted “Auntie P” couldn’t overstep.
At the townhouse, Marlena texted Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) to find out how procreation was going and read it aloud.
John came in and wondered who Marlena was talking to since he thought he heard a man’s voice. Marlena lied that she’d been on a work call and that she’d put it on speaker phone.
“Any more questions?” Marlena asked on Thursday’s Days episode. John backed off all the grilling before Julie showed up to confront Marlena. Julie demanded to see her husband, but Marlena maintained that Doug was dangerous.
John didn’t see what it would hurt if Doug was sedated and supervised, but Marlena acted offended.
Marlena snapped that she’d been doing this for many years and knew what was best for her patient – unless John thought he knew better!
Julie asked what gave Marlena the right to play God with people’s lives.
Marlena said that was the last thing she wanted to do, but Julie replied that she was sick about signing those commitment papers. “This isn’t over!” Julie shouted as she left.
Abe and Paulina showed up in time to realize major Julie drama had just gone down.
Once they were brought up to speed, Paulina and Abe shared their wedding news. Marlena said there was one thing she needed to know before she could perform the ceremony.
Marlena couldn’t possibly officiate until she spoke with Tamara Price (Marilyn McCoo) to make sure she was OK with Paulina marrying her ex-boyfriend and “baby daddy.”
Paulina looked unsettled, but Marlena insisted she would be thrilled to marry Paulina and Abe once she’d spoken with Tamara.
After Abe and John left together, Paulina confronted Marlena about wanting to blab her secrets.
Marlena admitted the thought crossed her mind, so Paulina was furious and insisted she needed to be able to trust Marlena.
However, Marlena suggested Paulina’s trust problem was with Abe, not her. She felt like Paulina needed to come clean to both Abe and Lani before marriage.
Since Paulina was a woman of faith, Marlena talked about the importance of her confession. If Paulina didn’t come clean, Marlena said may God have mercy on her soul!
In the town square, John opened up to Abe about Marlena’s out-of-character behavior lately – including how she wore sunglasses to read the possession script she approved.
Abe wondered if John thought Marlena might be possessed again. John denied it, but he did think Marlena was in trouble and needed his help.
Since John suspected there’d be answers on Doug’s therapy session tape, he decided to ignore ethics and get to it.
Next, John broke in Marlena’s office drawer and asked God to forgive him for this. He pulled out the tape recorder and began listening to Doug’s tape moments later.
Back at Lani and Eli’s apartment, Julie ranted about how she’d be a danger to Marlena if she didn’t let her see Doug.
Lani didn’t see what they could do, but Eli offered to use his badge to get past doctor’s orders. Eli said they’d go down to Bayview and wouldn’t take no for an answer, so a grateful Julie gave him a hug.
At Bayview, Eli flashed his badge and insisted on getting in Doug’s room. Over with Marlena again, she cackled over how “all hell would break loose” once Lani and Abe knew the truth.
Marlena eventually received a call from a Bayview nurse, who tipped her off to what was happening with Eli and Julie.
In bed at home, Ben was loving all the baby-making attempts – and he loved this baby already.
Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) pointed out there may not even be a baby yet, so Ben teased that they’d better keep trying then. Ciara joined Ben in the shower soon after.
In his bedroom at the Hernandez house, Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) pointed his gun and insisted there was no way he’d let Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) take Gabi Hernandez DiMera’s (Camila Banus) company from her.
When Gabi appeared, Jake hid the gun and did his best to distract Gabi from the company mess with lovemaking.
Afterward, Gabi and Jake ran into Ciara and Ben outside the pub. While Ciara was inside with Gabi, Jake showed Ben his gun and explained his Philip problem.
Ben worried Jake was going to kill Philip, but Jake argued that he’d never killed anyone before and wasn’t going to start now.
Jake had summoned real-killer Carmine for a sit-down and was packing some heat to get him to listen.
Ben wanted to come along as backup, but Jake refused to let him get caught up in this. He urged Ben to just tell Gabi that he remembered he had an appointment.
Inside the pub, Ciara told Gabi that she hoped to work at Gabi Chic. Gabi admitted Philip fired her and was threatening to take her company away.
That news didn’t make sense to Ciara, so Gabi suggested maybe Ciara should share her thoughts with Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston).
If Philip didn’t start listening to reason soon, Gabi insisted he’d regret it!
When Ben joined Gabi and Ciara at their table, he said Jake had to deal with something that couldn’t wait.
Back with Jake, he confronted Carmine about his phony eyewitness account and asked how much Philip was paying him.
Jake offered to match it and throw in a little something on top. Carmine wasn’t interested, so Jake ultimately pulled his gun on him and threatened his life.
Carmine chuckled over Jake being a “pussycat” and said there was no way Jake would shoot him.
After Carmine grabbed the gun, he suggested he had no problem doing what needed to be done – unlike Jake.
Suddenly, Abe appeared and wondered what was going on. Carmine turned and pulled the trigger, so Abe took a shot near the heart and looked stunned.
Days of Our Lives spoilers say Abe will wind up in a fight for his life, so don’t miss what’s ahead.
