Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Tuesday, December 28, reveals that Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) soul was saved, so that brought an emotional family reunion after the devil’s defeat. Here’s how all the DOOL action played out during Marlena’s gripping exorcism.
First on Tuesday’s Days episode, Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) denied being jealous over Johnny DiMera’s (Carson Boatman) marriage.
Allie insisted Chanel DiMera (Raven Bowens) was her best friend, so she didn’t want to see her get hurt.
Chanel argued that she wasn’t Allie’s best friend anymore; she clarified that she was Allie’s sister-in-law now.
Although Chanel was hoping Allie could be happy for them, Allie couldn’t do that when she knew Chanel was only going to get her heart broken.
After Johnny and Chanel left in a huff, Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) worried Johnny might be right about Allie being in love with Chanel.
Allie pulled Tripp close and felt he had to know by now that he was the one she loved. Tripp decided he indeed knew that and assured Allie of his love as well.
After Allie was summoned to the townhouse, Tripp ran into Chanel in the town square. Chanel and Tripp agreed they could stay friends and remain neutral, so Chanel accepted Tripp’s invitation to the hospital Christmas party.
Tripp explained that he was taking Henry Horton (Nash and Clyde Gunderson) to the gathering, where Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) was playing Santa.
At the hospital, Steve brought a smile to Kayla Johnson’s (Mary Beth Evans) face as “Patchy Claus.”
Steve convinced Kayla to sit on his knee and offered an anchor bracelet to match the necklace he gave her on their honeymoon. Later, Kayla read to the hospitalized children with Steve by her side.
In one of the townhouse bedrooms, possessed Marlena insisted that Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) had a secret and threatened to spill to Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) if Lucas didn’t do it himself.
Sami didn’t think it could be that bad, but Lucas seemed incredibly nervous. He said he loved Sami so much that he was willing to do anything to get back together.
In the living room, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) entered and assured John Black (Drake Hogestyn) that he had backup now.
Eric said he happened to be well-suited to the job before taking off his coat and scarf to reveal a priest collar. He felt it was God’s will that he made this timely return to the priesthood.
Eric interrupted with John before Lucas could blab too much to Sami. He knew Marlena was still in there fighting and intended to “make damn sure” his mom won with the help of his boss.
After Eric sent the others out, Marlena warned that he’d die if he dared to challenge her power.
Marlena recalled how Eric had previously been defrocked after a tape played of him fornicating with Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) in front of his parishioners.
Eric insisted that he was drugged when that happened and added that he’d put it behind him.
After Marlena transformed into Eileen Davidson’s version of Kristen, she asked if Father wanted to make a sequel.
The devil played the tape of Kristen and Eric in bed before urging Eric to surrender again.
“Kristen” argued no one would know, but Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) showed up after Belle Brady (Martha Madison) got the charges dropped. He appeared behind Eric and reminded him this was just another one of the devil’s tricks.
“Kristen” insisted that Brady didn’t have to be jealous since she’d always have a special place in her heart for him. She felt Brady could never resist her, but Brady wasn’t impressed over the devil’s trickery and assured Eric he had his back.
Once possessed Marlena looked like herself again, she called Eric and Brady a drag.
Marlena warned that the fallen priest and his boozy brother weren’t going to win, but Eric was determined to get his mom back.
After Sami and Belle started bickering over Jan Spears (Heather Lindell), John tried to settle them down.
Eric came out and agreed they needed to set aside their differences. He felt like working together as a family was their only shot at saving Marlena’s soul.
Just outside the townhouse, Allie ran into Johnny as they realized they got the same call. Johnny insisted that today was about their grandma and that everything else could wait.
Allie agreed before Sami opened the door to greet the twins. She wanted to speak to Allie alone to verify something she heard from Paulina Price (Jackee Harry) – obviously meaning the kiss between her daughter and Chanel.
However, Allie argued this wasn’t the time and wanted to focus on Marlena.
Lucas decided to head out since this felt like a family situation, but he promised to pray for all of them. Afterward, Lucas dropped off some presents at the Horton house.
As Lucas looked up at the angel tree topper, he prayed for forgiveness and asked God to watch over Sami as well as her family.
Back at the townhouse, Eric warned everyone how exhausting and dangerous the exorcism would be. He gave anyone who wasn’t up for something so emotional the chance to back out now.
Marlena’s loved ones all wanted to be there for her the same way she’d been there for them.
Once Eric began the exorcism, he threw holy water on Marlena and led everyone in saying the Lord’s prayer.
Eric seemingly managed to rid his mom of the devil’s presence, but possessed Marlena laughed maniacally over the fake-out. “Is that all you’ve got?” Marlena asked.
After Marlena taunted Belle on Tuesday’s Days episode, Sami stood up for her sister.
Marlena argued that the “professional slut” was defending the “junior slut,” but Eric warned them not to engage with the devil.
John pushed Marlena to look at all their faces and be reminded of their love. John urged Marlena to fight, so she had flashbacks of tender moments with John, her children and grandchildren.
After the wind blowing through the room died down and the bed stopped rocking, heartwarming Christmas music played.
Marlena woke up to assure John, Belle, Brady, Eric, Sami, Allie and Johnny that it was really her. She exclaimed that they all saved her, so John thanked God as they all celebrated.
