Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Tuesday, January 26, reveal that Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) found Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus) in his kitchen making cupcakes for his birthday. Rafe happily ate a cupcake and wished that Gabi would find happiness.
Rafe wondered how long Gabi was staying in town, and Gabi said that it depended. Rafe wondered on whom.
Gabi told Rafe all about Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) getting together with Kate DiMera (Lauren Koslow), noting that she was better for Jake than “that dinosaur.” Soon, Gabi decided that she needed to go see Jake, and she took off.
At the DiMera mansion, Jake dreamed about his kiss with Gabi, then he woke up next to Kate. Kate noted that Gabi had feelings for Jake, and she wondered whether Jake had residual feelings for Gabi.
Jake said no and reassured Kate. Later, Jake and Kate were canoodling in the living room when Gabi walked in.
Gabi had her GabiChic proposal in hand and wanted Jake to look at it right now. Kate and Gabi bickered in typical form, and then Kate left, giving Jake a big smooch before doing so.
Gabi asked Jake not to kiss Kate in front of her, and Jake balked. Gabi insisted that she was in Jake’s head, and she blew Jake a kiss as she left.
Over at the Salem Inn, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) was horrified by what she heard through her phone. Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) had just been shot at the Salem Inn, and she could hear Brady collapse and Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin) crying and telling Brady that he had to be ok.
Chloe picked up the phone and talked briefly to Kristen, reporting that Brady had been shot, then she hung up on Kristen.
Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) rushed into the room, saying that he couldn’t find the shooter, who was still on the loose. Chloe and Philip stayed with Brady until the EMTs arrived.
Back at Statesville, Kristen was beside herself with worry. Just then, a guard announced that Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) was there to visit. Kristen frantically told Tony what happened to Brady, and Tony agreed to go check on Brady for Kristen. “I’m going with you – I have to see him,” Kristen insisted.
Soon, the guard came in, and Kristen took the guard’s gun and held Tony hostage, telling the guard that she’d shoot Tony if he made a move. Tony begged Kristen not to do this, but she persisted, and she and Tony walked out together.
At the hospital, Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) found Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) at the nurses’ station.
Sarah told Nicole that Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) was running the Vitali crime family, but she didn’t give any more details, other than to say that Ava had made someone she knows launder money. Nicole agreed to talk to Ava to get her to back off.
Nicole then went into Ava’s room and gently confronted her about being the boss of the Vitali crime family. Ava didn’t readily deny it, but she didn’t admit it either, and she craftily changed the subject to Charlie Dale (Mike C. Manning).
Ava told Nicole that she could place Charlie in London at the time of Allie Horton’s (Linsey Godfrey) attack.
This greatly interested Nicole, and Ava asked Nicole to go see Rafe and find out what was going on with the case against Charlie. Nicole agreed. Meanwhile, out at the nurses’ station, Brady was wheeled in unconscious and Sarah was horrified. Sarah got Brady into a room, while Chloe and Philip argued.
Chloe felt responsible for bringing Brady into this mob mess, but Philip argued that it was his fault. Sarah returned to say that the bullet had missed Brady’s major organs and that he was probably going to be ok.
Chloe left to go be with Brady, and Sarah and Philip bickered, with Philip blaming Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) for the shooting. Sarah was incredulous.
Later, Philip went into Ava’s room telling her to call off her dogs. Ava had no idea what Philip was talking about, and Philip disclosed that Angelo Vitali (Angelo Tiffe) put a hit out on him, and that Brady was shot instead.
Ava said she had nothing to do with it, and Philip demanded that Ava have Angelo back off.
In Brady’s room, Chloe entered and sat with an unconscious Brady. Chloe cried, telling Brady that she should have listened to him and that this was all her fault. “Oh really?” a voice said behind Chloe. It was Kristen. “What did you do to him?” Kristen fumed.
Back at the Hernandez house, Nicole arrived and quickly learned that Rafe was in the process of verifying Ava’s information about Charlie in London.
Nicole shared that Allie had decided to undergo hypnosis, and as they were talking, Nicole noticed a cupcake and realized it was Rafe’s birthday. Nicole insisted on taking Rafe out for some birthday fun, and Rafe agreed.
