General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) may be poised for a new professor romance, so this could be GH’s answer to their dead Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) problem. Back in August 2020, the show killed Neil off out of the blue. It was a surprising and rather sad decision since it wound up being rather pointless.
The writers obviously intended to go somewhere with Neil’s suspicious overdose, but the story was ultimately dropped. Of course, Julian Jerome (William deVry) also died before 2020 came to a close, so that eliminated another love interest option for Alexis.
That left Alexis without her good guy or her bad boy!
Fortunately, it looks like Alexis may find herself drawn to someone who’s the best of both worlds down the road. According to a leaked script, Alexis will work on finding a new path following her release from prison.
Since that path will require taking some additional college courses, Alexis will land in a new professor’s orbit. There’s the potential for this to be some handsome scholarly fellow who’s a lot like Neil the intellectual therapist.
The tricky part is there may be some clashing since this professor won’t feel Alexis belongs in the class. If the professor is male, this scenario fits with the typical soap formula of conflict that leads to blooming love.
In the leaked script, Alexis faces a stunning blow as she works toward a career change.
After Alexis explains her days as a defense attorney are behind her, this professor cuts to the chase and insists Alexis is wasting her time. He acts like Alexis has no business being in that class at all.
Since the professor also delivers a compliment on an old article at one point, it’s possible he just won’t feel he has anything to teach Alexis. Nevertheless, it’s also possible this professor won’t think Alexis is cut out for the new career she chooses.
That new career might be Alexis trying to become a teacher herself and could leave this guy thinking he’s the expert on who’d make a good one.
Regardless, this might be how the show essentially replaces Neil Byrne – by bringing in another academic type of guy who can challenge Alexis and intrigue her.
Alexis will need a love interest once she gets out of Spring Ridge, so this professor storyline could be the ticket to giving her one. As other GH news and updates emerge, we’ll keep you posted.
