General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Charles Shaughnessy has scored a contract role at GH, so this Days of Our Lives (DOOL) alum’s mysterious new stint will begin in September. Soap Opera Digest confirmed the news, but the show’s keeping a tight lid on who Shaughnessy will be playing and what his storyline will be about.
It’s possible that Shaughnessy will be playing a brand-new role or perhaps a recast of an existing character.
However, we should also consider the possibility that Shaughnessy will reclaim the part he played back in 1984. Shaughnessy previously portrayed Alistair Durban, who was Holly Sutton’s (Emma Samms) first cousin.
GH fans will recall that presumed dead Holly is actually being held captive, so could Shaughnessy become part of Emma Samms’ return storyline?
Maybe Alistair could be involved in the drama surrounding Holly and the story that’ll ultimately set up her safe return.
Someone needs to rescue Holly and end her current nightmare!
Viewers are definitely eager to get some resolution to Holly’s terrible ordeal, so it makes sense for her first cousin to be caught up in all that.
Regardless, Charles Shaughnessy is indeed returning to the ABC soap, so we’ll see if he’s stepping in Alistair Durban’s shoes again or tackling a different role this time around. Either way, it’ll be great to see Shaughnessy in the world of daytime television once more.
Days of Our Lives fans know Shaughnessy as Shane Donovan, who served as a smart superspy over the years.
Plenty of people know Shaughnessy from his primetime role as Maxwell Sheffield on The Nanny as well, so he’s a familiar face and a fantastic actor.
It’d be fun to see Shaughnessy’s character interact with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) as they seek true Holly answers.
Whether Shaughnessy’s contract role involves a clean slate character or the revival of Alistair Durban, it’s exciting to know he’s locked in for some hot plots.
