General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Friday, July 23, reveals that Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) made a surprise appearance while Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) managed to bust Elizabeth “Liz” Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst). Lenny Caulfield (Rif Hutton) also needed Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) promise, so here’s how all the action played out.
At the PCPD, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was happy about Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) being transferred to a cushier correctional facility.
Alexis was a bit glum since prison was still prison, but she knew she was guilty and needed to do her time.
Soon after, Shawn Butler (Sean Blakemore) came in with Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) to reveal his big news.
Shawn’s sentence had officially been commuted, so he was free without parole conditions. Now Shawn’s focus was on bringing whoever shot Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) to justice.
“You do what you have to do to nail that son of a bitch,” Alexis insisted when it was time to part ways and head to her new facility. Shawn made it clear that was the plan.
At GH, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) had a warm memory of Jason before telling herself to get it together. Suddenly, Jason appeared and wondered if it was OK to say hi.
Britt coldly suggested she doesn’t tell Jason what to do. She just wanted to be sure Jason knew where they stood, but he reminded Britt that he’d be there if she needed her.
Britt assured Jason she wouldn’t and turned her attention to Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) while Jason met with Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson).
Austin wanted Britt to sign off on something, so Britt admitted she’d been wanting to talk to him anyway.
Britt needed as many allies as possible and was hoping for Austin’s chief of staff support since she hired him.
Austin wondered what he’d get in exchange and agreed to support Britt when she said she’d sign off on anything he wanted.
Meanwhile, Monica got updates from Jason on Damian Spinelli’s (Bradford Anderson) deep dive into Austin. Jason insisted the guy seemed legit, had no felonies and was who he said he was.
Monica thanked Jason before talking to him about his engagement to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright).
Monica confessed she’d always have an issue with Carly because of how things went down with AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan).
Jason understood, but he also felt Carly had changed in many ways since then. He also owed Carly his life and was hopeful that Monica could accept his decision to marry her.
Monica ultimately just wanted Jason to be happy and felt that her love for him was something she had in common with Carly.
In the hallway, Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) found Liz and Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) discussing Peter August (Wes Ramsey).
Terry argued that prison was too good for Peter and wished someone would finish him off.
Once Terry calmed down, she apologized for losing her cool. She also got assurance that she had Liz and Finn’s support for her chief of staff bid.
Afterward, Terry clashed with Britt, who wondered what it’d take to get Terry to drop out of the race for chief of staff. Terry argued that she wanted what was best for the hospital, but Britt replied that she did, too.
Once Monica interrupted, she revealed that she wanted to see both Britt and Terry in her office. Monica sat Terry and Britt down since she was ready to reveal her personal recommendation for the chief of staff position.
Jordan took Alexis to Spring Ridge, which had a lot more privileges. Alexis learned she still needed to stay on guard and remain on the warden’s good side or else she could get sent back to Pentonville.
Once Alexis entered the recreational common area, she was taken aback to see Ryan Chamberlain wheeled out.
Back with Sam, she was willing to help Shawn with his hunt for Hayden’s shooter as long as her parole officer cleared it.
At the Metro Court pool, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) was there spending time with Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) when Ava Jerome (Maura West) appeared with Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla).
Trina spoke to Spencer privately about her desire to “parent trap” miserable Ava and Nikolas, but he wasn’t interested since he wasn’t a fan of Ava.
Trina decided she’d do it herself, which meant pretending to send drinks from Ava to Nikolas and Nikolas to Ava.
Unfortunately, there was confusion on Ava’s end since she thought Austin was behind the gesture.
As everyone gathered around with questions, Spencer ratted Trina out for sending the drinks. He insisted Trina couldn’t play games with people’s hearts like that.
“You mean like you are?” Trina fired back. She was sorry for the juvenile scheme, but she just wanted happiness for Ava and Nikolas. Even so, Ava stood her ground on the divorce.
In Nixon Falls, Nina arrived and embraced Phyllis Caufield (Joyce Guy) at The Tan-O.
“Mike” aka Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was happy to see Nina as well – and Nina admitted she didn’t just come back for Phyllis. They wound up in a close moment before Lenny asked to speak with Nina alone.
Lenny was grateful since Nina’s connections meant he could have his exploratory surgery tomorrow so close to home.
However, Lenny had reservations – and they weren’t just about the money Nina was offering. He felt Nina was also offering hope and pointed out that the growth was on his pancreas.
Lenny noted that often meant a death sentence and wanted Nina to make him a promise. When there was no more battle left to fight, he wanted Nina to make sure Phyllis wouldn’t hold on.
Before Nina could make that promise, Phyllis returned. Lenny shared a toast with Phyllis, Sonny and Nina as they came together in a sweet moment.
Back with Liz and Finn, they went for a walk outside as Liz tried to nail down a solution. Liz suggested that Terry could make the security cams go dark again.
Liz argued that they wouldn’t even have to tell Terry what happened, but Finn gave Liz a firm “no” on involving Dr. Randolph.
Liz thought that brought them back to Jason as someone who could get rid of Peter’s body. She talked about how Jason is a professional and doesn’t get convicted because there’s never any evidence.
As Liz was explaining all this to Finn, Jason eavesdropped nearby.
Finn was adamant about cleaning the mess up themselves and assured Liz that he’d figure something out. After Finn walked away,
Jason confronted Liz about what was going on. He pointed out that Liz told him not to worry about Peter anymore about a week ago – then Finn walked up before she could spill the rest.
Now that Jason had overheard about the mess that needed cleaning up, he wanted the whole story.
Jason understood that Liz was trying to protect Finn, but he assured Liz she didn’t have to do that with him. “If you know what happened to Peter, all you have to do is tell me. I will help you,” Jason said.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) talked about her theory that one of Peter’s enemies was on the roof with him.
Valentin felt Anna had already figured it out and suggested there was a man at the hospital that day with every reason in the world to hurt Peter.
Anna confessed that when she offered updates to Finn earlier, she could see it all right there in his body language and how he spoke.
It clicked for Anna that Finn fit the description as well. Valentin knew it’d be difficult for Anna to prove the man she loved killed Peter, but she countered that they didn’t know that.
Nevertheless, Valentin felt it was indeed possible that Finn did something to Peter. Anna said there was only one way to find out and approached Finn in his office soon after.
