General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) may be gone for now, but his portrayer’s time on GH isn’t over. According to SOD, Howarth isn’t leaving the show and has expressed excitement over the new chapter ahead.
The General Hospital star talked about being in good hands with the writers, though nothing’s yet known about where the story goes from here.
However, Howarth will be taking a hiatus from GH, so this is a temporary exit rather than a permanent goodbye. While Howarth takes a break from working, he intends to do Cameo videos and raise money for Feeding America.
Howarth is going to donate 100 percent of his profits from his shout-out vids and work toward helping with the hunger crisis in the U.S.
Of course, we have to consider what the future holds for Howarth and his character. The real question is: How can Franco come back from a fatal gunshot wound that sent blood gushing everywhere? It was a gruesome scene that seemingly left no room for doubt about Franco’s demise.
There’s always a chance for a soap death to be undone, but this one could be awfully tough to explain. If it’s some sort of setup, it’s hard to believe Franco would put Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and her kids through something so brutal.
When Franco gasped for Liz to tell the boys he loved them and then declared his love for her as well, it felt like a very final “Friz” farewell. Naturally, never say never since daytime dramas can get pretty wacky, but it makes more sense to perhaps bring back Howarth as a new character.
Howarth came to General Hospital in 2012 as Todd Manning – a character who made the jump from One Life to Live. In 2013, Howarth switched to playing a Franco recast and has received mixed reactions ever since.
Howarth is obviously a talented performer who’s been able to win over plenty of fans with his quirky charm. Others have never been able to get past Franco’s horrible, dark history.
It’s possible General Hospital decided to kill Franco off and just give Howarth a fresh start as someone else in Port Charles.
Other actors like Michael Easton (Hamilton Finn, ex-Silas Clay, ex-John McBain) and Tamara Braun (ex-Kim Nero, ex-Carly Corinthos) have played multiple characters in town as well, so this is nothing new for GH.
Howarth has confirmed that he’ll indeed return to work down the road, but will it be as Franco alive or someone else? A new character fits the facts for now, but we’ll see how it goes!
