General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, October 21, reveals that Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) signed away any claim he might’ve had to ELQ shares – and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) ultimately had a surprising reaction to Ava Jerome Cassadine’s (Maura West) pursuit of joint custody.
In the Corinthos family’s kitchen, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) opened up to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) about Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) desire to make Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) pay.
Carly completely understood it, but Willow didn’t see the point of provoking Nina since she hadn’t come to them seeking time with Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (Caleb and Kyler Ends) yet.
Carly suggested it was in Willow’s nature to seek a peaceful solution – and that was usually in Michael’s nature, too. However, Carly felt like Michael could be pushed too far and that might be the case this time around.
At the Port Charles Grill, Nina worked to convince Phyllis Caulfield (Joyce Guy) to build a new life for herself in Nixon Falls.
Nearby, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) talked to Ava about putting her in charge of Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicholas Chavez) trust fund.
Nikolas suggested it would send a message that Ava must be supported and prevent Nik from caving in since he spent so many years coddling his son.
Ava held out hope that Spencer would take the olive branch she’d extended to him – for both Spencer and Nikolas’ sake.
Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) was also hopeful that Spencer might change his mind about Ava’s deal, but he stood his ground at the courthouse ahead of his arraignment.
Spencer’s public defender came out and thought the case would be thrown out, but it soon became apparent she was inexperienced and had the wrong case file entirely.
When Sonny appeared, Spencer was excited before realizing he wasn’t there to help. Sonny insisted Spencer had broken the code of never going after children or family by including Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) in his plot.
Despite the threat not being real, Sonny couldn’t come through for him and felt Spencer had to be his own man.
Soon after, it was Nikolas’ turn to speak with Spencer. Nikolas just wanted Spencer to respect his marriage, but Spencer refused.
Esme begged Spencer to reconsider since she’d be all alone if he went to prison. After checking out the right file, the public defender asked Spencer how he wanted to plead.
At GH, Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) caught Austin checking on a patient’s file and reminded him he was suspended.
Austin grumbled about Brook Lynn Quartermaine’s (Amanda Setton) scheme, but Monica didn’t understand why Austin was fighting so hard to be part of the Quartermaine picture – especially since his eyes were wide open to how they operated.
Over with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), she showed up at the Quartermaine mansion to discuss the Austin drama with Brook Lynn.
Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) ranted about Austin again and didn’t agree with Maxie’s assessment of him being a decent guy.
After Michael found out how Brook Lynn exploited Austin’s weakness, he approved of the strategy.
Moments later, a man named Mr. Sheridan arrived. He was the politician Michael spoke on the phone with previously about Nina – the one running for Pennsylvania Attorney General.
Michael felt his donation could help Mr. Sheridan seal the deal on winning the election. After an offscreen discussion, Mr. Sheridan shook on a deal with Michael.
Back with Austin, he showed up at the Quartermaine mansion and revealed that he’d reached a decision. Austin didn’t think the Quartermaines could separate family from business, so he no longer wanted any part of this.
Austin was willing to sign away any claims to ELQ shares and stick with the original will – and Brook Lynn was delighted once he actually did it.
However, Austin had a warning for Brook Lynn as she showed him out. He insisted this wasn’t over and was in fact just beginning!
As for Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), he had another Leo Falconeri (Easton Rocket Sweda) argument with Olivia before she suggested maybe it was time to start thinking about divorce.
Back with Ava, she joined Nina and Phyllis at their restaurant table. Ava was quite curious about Sonny’s other life in Nixon Falls, but Nina wasn’t pleased.
While Phyllis was taking a call, Ava explained that knowledge was power. She was looking for both since she was about to talk to Sonny about joint custody of Avery.
Once Phyllis rejoined Ava and Nina, Sonny came in and looked rather perturbed. Ava headed over to another table with Sonny and brought up her joint custody idea.
Sonny immediately shot it down, but he later decided they could work out more time for Ava without getting the courts involved.
A surprised Ava said that worked for her and thought Nixon Falls had softened Sonny. Ava started to leave, but Sonny insisted they still had some unfinished business to take care of.
General Hospital spoilers say some twists and turns are still to come in Sonny’s storyline, so stay tuned.
