General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Victor Cassadine may return from the dead – and Charles Shaughnessy could be playing the recast role. Thaao Penghlis previously portrayed Victor, but the show may have opted to go in another direction to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Although it’s possible to do two soaps like Wally Kurth (Ned Quartermaine on GH, Justin Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives), Victor could become the centerpiece for a new story that’s brewing and may need someone with full-time availability.
Penghlis is currently involved in DiMera drama on DOOL and has been filming new scenes for the Days of Our Lives” Beyond Salem miniseries on Peacock as well.
Charles Shaughnessy, on the other hand, has joined General Hospital on contract and will be making his debut in September.
The timing fits for Shaughnessy to be a recast Victor Cassadine – especially since there have been plenty of Victor mentions lately.
For starters, “Victor” was the fake name Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) used when he first returned to Port Charles and deceived Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla).
Spencer also brought Victor up to Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) in the August 11 episode, which led to Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) asking his new love follow-up questions about her former flame.
Liesl suggested that Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) was rock bottom while Victor was topsoil, but Scott’s the stars!
What seemed like a sweet scene between lovebirds may have actually been a big clue about what’s ahead. It’s just weird for there to be so much focus on Victor all of a sudden.
This has to be building somewhere, so it seems likely that Shaughnessy will make his debut as a Victor Cassadine recast in September.
Shaughnessy previously had a forgettable GH role as Alistair Durban back in the ‘80s, but the show is bringing him on for something more substantial.
It makes a lot of sense to cast a big name like Shaughnessy and let him take over as Victor in a major storyline.
