General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that it’s time to talk about Sam McCall and ask the question of: What is Kelly Monaco’s GH future? Sam was once one of the ABC soap’s most prominent characters, but she’s faded to the background lately and now Sam’s path forward is uncertain.
That’s thanks in part to Sam’s breakup with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and a shift to some new onscreen love interests for Monaco along with Burton.
In the past, it would’ve been Jason and Sam going on the run together for an epic adventure storyline. Now it’s Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) who’s taken Sam’s place and is quickly becoming the new lady in Jason’s life.
Jason and Britt have quickly gained a great deal of fan support. Even Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) has given Britt and Jason his seal of approval! It’s clear that there’s a big push from the show to make Britt and Jason the couple of the future.
It makes sense considering Jason remains so important to the canvas – with or without Sam by his side. Jason will always be connected to the Corinthos clan and Sonny’s mob organization.
Jason’s like family to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and her loved ones, so Jason constantly has people to protect and things to do. This love story with Britt is just the icing on the cake.
Sam, on the other hand, isn’t faring as well in this “JaSam” post-breakup world. Her pairing with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is arguably a flop since they’re just so mismatched and rather dull.
What are the show’s options now that Sam and Jason have gone their separate ways?
It’s possible Sam will just continue fading to the background and won’t be all that important anymore. There are plenty of characters who stick around and aren’t that crucial to the canvas.
The alternatives might be giving Sam a better love interest that’ll actually work for her – just like GH did with Jason and Britt.
However, we also have to consider the possibility that Sam might ultimately be written out. If the show can’t come up with another successful pairing or a clear direction for the character, Sam might head off canvas. It could become a situation where Kelly Monaco gets let go since she’s an expensive cast member.
Naturally, nothing has been decided or confirmed when it comes to Monaco’s future just yet. This is simply a crucial conversation to have under the circumstances. Some choices will have to be made for Sam’s struggling character sooner or later, so stick with us for the latest updates and news.
