General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that an important question is on many fans’ minds, so we have to ask: Will GH recast Maxie Jones again due to Kristen Storms’ extended absence? The show may have no choice but to bring in a temporary replacement if Storms needs more recovery time than they can offer.
Storms had brain surgery back in June, so that led to Maxie being written out while Storms is on the mend.
Maxie headed off to Texas, where she intends to visit family and stay away from “Bailey Quartermaine” aka Louise August (Harper and Scarlett Bloom) for her own good.
That solution worked perfectly fine with Peter August (Wes Ramsey) out of the picture – and it could work for a while longer since it could take some time for Peter to resurface.
However, GH revealed that Peter’s body is missing – and it’s almost certain that he’s alive.
Since Peter’s coming back, it’s reasonable to assume Maxie has to come back when he does.
Maxie’s an important part of Peter’s story, so the show has to prepare for the possibility that Storms won’t be back in time for the next phase of all this.
Of course, that’s not a big deal since temporary replacements have been used in the past.
There have been some particularly successful temp recasts for Maxie, including Molly Burnett. Now that Burnett has wrapped up her role on Queen of the South, she might be free and willing to step in.
It’s worth mentioning that Burnett has been keeping up with Storms’ medical ordeal and commented on an Instagram post of hers last month.
After Storms put up a picture of the shaved portion of her head along with her stitches, Molly Burnett offered some kind words.
“Sheesh!! I hope you are feeling better sweet Kirsten!” Burnett replied on June 16.
Since Burnett is in the loop and showing her support, maybe she’ll be the one to fill in when the time comes. There may not be any way around a temporary recast if Storms’ leave of absence goes on too long.
The writers started telling this story about Maxie, Peter and Louise August (Harper and Scarlett Bloom), so they have to finish it.
The storyline’s all mapped out, so it may require Molly Burnett or another actress coming on board as a temp Maxie.
