Tonight on CBS their reboot of the classic series Magnum P.I. airs with an all-new Friday, January 15, 2021, episode and we have your Magnum P.I. recap below. On tonight’s Magnum P.I. season 3 episode 5 “The Day Danger Walked In,” as per the CBS synopsis, “As a major hurricane hits the Island, Magnum and his friends find shelter inside La Mariana, along with two armed killers also escaping the dangerous storm. Also, Rick must confess to TC that he let the insurance lapse on the bar.”

Everyone is helping out to board up the bar with the storm coming. Magnum tells Rick flashlights are sold out everywhere. Rick tells Magnum that he let his hurricane insurance expire on his policy, he had to close the bar during COVID and to make end meets, he had no choice. Magnum tells him that the weather reports say that the storm is going to pass right by them, so he is sure he will be ok.
Gordie is heading back to the station before the storm hits. Higgins calls Ethan to see if he is on her way, they are supposed to go on a date. Magnum asks Rick how long he thinks this relationship will last with Higgins, Rick says he doesn’t care and tells Magnum to help him boarding up the back door. Rick tells Earl to stay in the bar, not to sleep in his houseboat. T.C. is trying to gather up people to stay in the bar and ride the storm out. Ethan shows up, everyone has eyes on him. Magnum introduces him to a few. Everyone gets an alert on their phones, the storm has been upgraded to a category four and will be passing right over them.
Ethan and Higgins decide to stay at the bar and play pool. Ethan tells Higgins that it doesn’t matter that Magnum doesn’t like him it is only her opinion that matters. Meanwhile, T.C. tells Magnum that Ethan looks like a good dude and he would think he would be happy with how long he has been pushing Higgins to date. Magnum says he just thinks she can do better and a doctor shouldn’t date his patients. T.C. asks Magnum if he is jealous, he says no, it is just like him dating one of his clients, doesn’t make sense.
The storm is getting worse, T.C. gets up and tells them they need a distraction, he grabs the mic and says it is talent time. Booky gets up and starts to sing and dance, T.C. joins him. There is a knock at the door, Magnum answers is and two guys come in and ask if they can wait the storm out inside, Rick welcomes them in.
T.C. tells Magnum he is going to have to sing, he says he is up to if he has a few more beers. T.C. tells Magnum that he doesn’t like Ethan because he has been displaced. He is no longer the number one guy in Higgins’ life. T.C. is calm, Rick is not, he is worried about the storm.
Teuila invites the two men who arrived last, to play poker with her, their names are Vince and Neil. Over at the bar, Rick asks Magnum if he got any leads yet on the white SUV, he says no. Meanwhile, there is a man in the bar having an asthma attack, Rick goes to get Ethan to help him. Magnum helps out by going in their sedan to get his inhaler, and he notices something weird about an armoured truck in the parking lot. He peeks inside the truck and sees two people on the floor with blood on them.
Back inside the bar, Magnum says he couldn’t find the inhaler. Magnum tells Higgins about the armoured vehicle, Vince and Neil are involved. Higgins is speaking to Teuila, T.C., Magnum and Rick, she says for now they should just play along. Then the power goes off, Rick checks the generator and it is not working, there is no gas in it. Magnum says the can go siphon some gas in the parking lot, Ethan offers to go with him. Ethan tells Magnum that he is feeling tension between them, that he doesn’t like him.
Magnum denies it, he says he has no issues with him. Then he says sharing Higgins is new to him, and a little hard. Ethan says he is a team with her and he doesn’t want to get in the way with that. All of a sudden the bar gets a good shake from the storm, Teuila is yelling for help. Debris fell on one man and he hurt is leg, Ethan helps him. Rick gets the generator to work. Teulia resumes the poker game to give Magnum and Higgins a chance to see if there is a radio where they can call for help. Rick tells T.C. that he let the premiums slide during COVID, there is no insurance on the bar. T.C. is shocked, Rick said he had to make some cuts, he is sorry.
The poker game is back on, Magnum finds a radio and tries to get someone to reach out to Gordie. Magnum finally reaches him and tells him what is happening at the bar. Magnum has an idea, he goes and parks the Porsche beside the armoured vehicle, then bumps it with another car into it and the alarm goes off. Magnum returns inside and Neil asks him what he was doing, he says checking the doc lines. Neil and Vince pull out their guns, Neil asks Magnum what he was really doing outside. Neil tries to take one of the guys down and gets shot.
Vince and Neil gather up Magnum, Higgins, Rick, T.C. and Neil and puts them in the freezer. Higgins asks if she grab some supplies to treat Neil’s wounds, he lets her do it quickly. Once inside, Higgins tells them that she noticed Booky, he knows they are inside there and he is hiding. T.C. says they have no chance of his getting help come to them, not in this storm and his stage. T.C. and Rick try to pry the door open while Higgins is working on Ethan’s leg.
In the bar, Neil asks Teuila where Booky is, she says he left just before they pulled their guns. Neil doesn’t believe her, he grabs her and tells she is going with him to look for him.
T.C. and Rick talk about the insurance, Rick says he had to make tough decisions. T.C. says he should have had a heads up and if they are partners, he can’t be hiding things. Rick says he is sorry, 100% honesty from here on out. T.C. says ok, they will figure it out, fix a lot themselves and borrow to fix the rest.
Higgins manages to get the bullet out. T.C. is worried about Booky that Neil and Vince will make an example out of him. Neil shouts out to Booky and tells him that if he doesn’t come out he is going to shoot Teuila.
Outside, someone is beeping a horn and it’s Morse code, Booky is telling them to move back. Inside the freezer they pull back near the door and Booky drives right through, they are free. Neil goes to check on the noise, nobody is inside the freezer, all of a sudden, Magnum pushes the freezer door hard into Neil and he hits the floor. Next, they go after Vince. T.C. come from behind and hits him with a tire iron.
The next day, the storm is done and Ethan is going to be discharged after another day in the hospital. Everyone else is at the bar trying to repair the damage. Higgins tells Magnum that Ethan says thanks and he feels a little foolish for trying to play the hero. Magnum tells her that Ethan is a good man. She thanks him for being so supportive of their relationship because it might turn into something serious and she would like them to be friends.
