In tonight’s Magnum P.I. episode, Dr. Ogawa the therapist gave Higgins some advice she really didn’t want. Higgins chose to ignore the advice and now she’s busying herself with work. When she wasn’t taking charge in landscaping now that their woman in charge of that was on maternity leave, she was helping Magnum with his case. Magnum and Higgins were hired for a new case.
They were hired by a groom mere days before his wedding because he believes his fiancée is acting suspicious and he wanted her investigated. The groom is Aidan. He is wealthy and young and handsome. He’s getting married less than a year after he was widowed and his family thinks he’s rushing into things. Some of their fears were now rubbing off on him. He didn’t think Serena was after his money but he is starting to wonder if she was keeping secrets or worst having an affair.
Aidan therefore hired private investigators to look into it for him. They ran a background check and it was clean. Serena or the woman they believed was Serena doesn’t have any red flags. But she wasn’t Serena. She later met up with a man at a motel room and the other man called her “Kate”.
Serena/Kate gave him a bunch of money to go away. Magnum and Higgins reported this to Aidan. He confronted his fiancée and that’s when she told him a story. She said her real name is Kate. She met up with that man because he was her ex-husband and she wanted to get rid of him. He was apparently abusive and controlling. Serena said she was lucky to have gotten away with her life. And that’s why she changed her name.
Aidan bought this story. Higgins and Magnum did not. Higgins purposely thought that Aidan was having cold feet and that Serena couldn’t be trusted. But Higgins confronted Serena. She told Serena that her partner Magnum had been checking into this supposed ex-husband and that she found out he hadn’t left town when he got the money. It was true. Magnum was following the ex.
He was still in town and Magnum actually confronted him. He did so without Higgins knowing. Magnum spoke to the guy and he was with him when he died. It seemed Serena had killed him. She poisoned the money and so Magnum called 911. He reported that the money was poisoned and he also drove to the wedding in order to tell the groom that his new bride was a killer.
Only Higgins didn’t know she was confronting alone or without witnesses. Magnum called her to warn her. He told her that Serena killed her partner. He mentioned that her partner confessed to her killing several people before she eventually killed him and so Higgins was made aware.
She tried to stop the wedding. She had already caught Serena in a lie about her real identity and so Serena decided to take her out. Or at least try to. The two women fought. Serena was surprisingly holding her own against Higgins when Aidan came in to see what was happening and that ended things for Serena. She pushed away Higgins and escaped. Higgins tried to go after her but it was useless because Serena had planned her escape well.
Serena was in fact a hitwoman. She was a known killer who kills for money and she went quiet two years ago. Everyone figured she retired. Magnum and Higgins believed that she chose Aidan as her retirement package because he was wealthy and she could set herself in style after arranging his death. But they spoke to Aidan. They informed him that the woman he loved wasn’t real.
Aidan tried to take in everything else they told him and then he started talking about his late wife. She apparently died in a car accident very similar to how Serena kills people. Both Magnum and Higgins suspected that Serena had killed Aidan’s wife and then positioned herself to be there for him while he was grieving to better get a chance at his money.
If her former handler hadn’t showed up, Serna would even have gotten away with it. It turns out she hadn’t killed the guy she was meeting up with the poisoned money and that he was alive albeit barely at the hospital. The cops posted some guards outside his hospital room to safeguard him. They also posted guards outside of Aidan’s home as well. No one really thought she would show up at Aidan’s home and yet she did.
Serena knew she would most likely be caught and she did it anyways because she genuinely does love Aidan. Serena also admitted to killing his wife. His wife paid her to kill Aidan and so Serena did recon and she saw that Aidan was a good person. She fell in love with him. And she knew that his wife would keep trying to kill him and so Serena killed her first.
Serena was arrested. She was fine with going to jail and it turns out Aidan still loves her. He didn’t know how to stop loving her. It was sad but sweet that the hitwoman turned her life around because she fell in love. Serena later escaped from the US Marshall’s custody. She met up with Aidan and the two ran away together.
Magnum thought it was romantic and Higgins meanwhile continued to have doubts about her relationship with Ethan.
TC also found out that the teenager he hired was homeless and so he gave Cade a key to the Island Hopper’s office. This way Cade wouldn’t be far away if he needed help.
