Sloane left. She stayed in Afghanistan and so she had to write her goodbyes to the team in an email. She wrote to each member of the team. She left them each an item from her office and she left her fish to Torres. Torres has been watching over the fish since she left. He thought it was just going to be a temporary thing and, now that he’s learned it’s official, it’s hard. He doesn’t want a fish.
He doesn’t want anything he has to keep alive for the rest of his life and so he didn’t like his gift. Torres thought the others got a better deal. He tried to trade with them. His friends weren’t willing to give up their own gifts for his and that meant he was stuck with the fish. He was now the proud owner of Carl. Carl the fish has almost died once in his care, but now he has to keep it alive and he doesn’t know how he’ll do it.
Thankfully, a new case took his mind off the fish. Torres and his team were later called to the scene of a suspicious death. Their victim is Naval Petty Officer Martin Delfino. He was found frozen to death in the back of a food supply truck and it looked suspicious because he had no reason to be in the truck or to die in it. Delfino hadn’t worked with the company that owns the truck.
He operates a food truck with his cousin Shaun Greco and so it was odd that he would freeze to death in that truck of all places. The team asked the man who drives the truck if he recognizes their victim. He claimed he didn’t know him but hearing the name of the truck did resonate with him because he delivered to Killer Korn. Delfino’s food truck was called Killer Korn.
It was very popular in the area. Bishop had even heard of it and she told the others that they have the best corn on the cobb in the world. However, they went to the location of the food truck. Bishop said the colors on the truck didn’t match the ones of Killer Korn when she lasts it and so that too made this case suspicious. Bishop and Torres later found the cousin. They spoke to Greco and they informed of Delfino’s death.
Another food trucker had overheard them. She came running over to offer her sympathies to Greco because she knew his cousin and she thought his death came out of the blue and so the team asked her as well as Greco if Delfino had enemies. The only enemy the two could think of was Sloppy Joe Sammy.
Sammy was another food trucker. He owns and operates the Sloppy Joe food truck and he tried to flee the scene once he saw that he was speaking to federal agents. Sammy wasn’t able to make it very far because his truck made a horrible getaway vehicle. So, he answered a few questions for the team.
Sammy eventually admitted he tried to make a run for it because he received a “C” rating and he hasn’t put it up or made any changes to his food truck since then. Sammy got to be quite chatty once he got going. He told the team that he had no grudge against Delfino. He doesn’t like anyone and so he didn’t Delfino. It wasn’t anything personal. Sammy also said that Killer Korn had an intense rivalry with another food truck called Kosmic Korn.
Both food trucks make the same type of food. Their rivalry was so intense that it was all over the food blogs and the owners of each truck have taken out induvial restraining orders against each other. It was such an intense rivalry that it seemed odd Greco didn’t mention it. He mentioned Sammy and Sammy had merely been unpleasant. The “Korn Wars” on the other hand was the first thing everyone else thought about when asked about Delfino’s enemies. The team went back to Greco. They asked him about the rivalry and he said that restraining orders forces so much distance that the rivalry is dead now. He operates on one side of town and the other guys operated on the other end.
It turns out the birth of the rivalry happened after Greco’s friend stole his recipes. Greco and Pete Cannizaro both used to work at the same restaurant. The restaurant closed because of Covid-19 and so Greco poured all of his money into a food truck. He was just trying to find a way to keep working when the food truck idea came up. Greco told his friend his plans and his friend started using his recipes as well as a similar name to Greco’s truck. Kosmic Korn was the truck Bishop was thinking about earlier and the designs to both tracks are similar. Cannizaro basically ripped off his friend’s whole idea. Which explained animosity. They were each doing their best to sabotage until the restraining orders happened and now they have nothing to do with each other.
The team went to Kosmic Korn’s truck. They spoke with the owner and unfortunately, he was too busy at the time to talk and so Bishop and Torres pretended to be food bloggers. They offered to help with his truck in order to get an inside scoop on what happens behind the scenes. Cannizaro hadn’t known that they were federal agents. He allowed them entry into his food truck and they went searching for evidence. They later found evidence of blood. That was enough for them to detain Cannizaro and they questioned him about the blood. He said it was his. He said that Delfino came to him all angry and started a fight with him. Delfino hit Cannizaro. He drew blood and that seemed to snap him out of his anger.
Cannizaro claims that Delfino apologized to him. He said he was trying to break old patterns and he only came in all hot because he was trying to protect his loved ones. Delfino told Cannizaro that he was trying to make things before he shipped out. What he said got to Cannizaro and Cannizaro agreed to switch to burritos once he had run out of corn. He really did steal the recipes from Greco, but he was trying to make it right now and so he hadn’t killed Delfino. Delfino was knocked out and placed in the back of that truck and it wasn’t Cannizaro. The results came back that it had been his blood in the back of his truck. He had been telling the truth and so the team went back to Delfino’s friends and family.
The girl who had run over when she heard Delfino died – she had dated Delfino. He apparently noticed that she was being harassed by the food supplier and so he told the guy to back off. Richard, the supplier, then claims that Delfino disappeared before they could finish their discussion. Richard had gotten a ticket on his truck and he had needed to move his truck before he got another one and by the time he came back he swears that Delfino was gone. The next time he saw him, Delfino was dead in the back of his truck. It had seemed a little too convenient for the team to believe and they decided to detain Richard in spite of his story. They were talking about what to do next when Gibbs got a call from Fornell.
Fornell had told him earlier that he planned on moving to Costa Rica. He was at retirement age and he had wanted to move on with his life. Only the call hadn’t been about his trip. Fornell called saying that there was something wrong with Emily and so Gibbs fled the scene of a potential arrest to go to his side. Fornell had been at a hospital. His daughter Emily who is an addict had relapsed and he hadn’t known who else to call. His wife is dead. He doesn’t really have any friends besides Gibbs and so he called Gibbs. Gibbs hadn’t known how to help. All he could do was just sit with Fornell in the waiting room.
Meanwhile, the case with Delfino was solved. He apparently had lost his temper again. He had gotten into an argument with the guy who wrote parking tickets and it turns out the guy snapped. He shoved Delfino into a truck. It knocked him out and so the guy moved his body. He killed Delfino because he was tired of being hated every day. And so that was that.
And unfortunately, Emily Fornell later died from a drug overdose.
THE END!
