Tonight’s episode begins with the team hunting their serial killer. Gibbs and the journalist Marcie Warren were the first to realize there was a serial killer out there however they soon roped in Gibb’s team at NCIS. NCIS Special Agents were trained investigators. They along with Palmer working on the case is great. It means they’re one step closer to finding the serial killer and even Director Vance is working with them. He knows about the team working with Gibbs. He didn’t mind it and he was ready to return Gibbs’s gun and badge the second Gibbs is done playing dead. Gibbs was pretending to be dead. The serial killer realized that Gibbs and Marcie were investigating him and so he bugged their offices. He also tried to kill Gibbs by blowing up his boat.

Gibbs was lucky to survive. He only managed to do so because a veterinarian had been in the area and he had been able to patch up his wounds. But Gibbs wasn’t ready to return to the land of the living. He wanted the serial killer to feel like he or she won. Gibbs thought the serial killer would get sloppy believing he’s now safe from Gibbs and in a sense he had been right. The serial killer broke his pattern. He usually kills every hundred days and instead he killed sooner. He murdered Jennifer Hanover. She was covered in red tape and bludgeoned to death with a hammer. Just like the other victims. Hanover was married and so the team questioned her husband. They asked him when was the last time he saw his wife.

The husband told them that he last saw his wife when she went on her run. She has a smartwatch and she tended to thank him for it whenever she returned from her run. This time she didn’t come back. The husband didn’t get his thanks and so he filed a missing person report. He’s been up ever since waiting to hear the news. Mr. Hanover’s tip about the smartwatch proved helpful. Kasie was able to track the victim’s movements thanks to the smartwatch and it showed where she was the last time the watch was active. Kasie sent the location to McGee. McGee traveled with both Torres and Knight and they called Gibbs on the way. The three agents broke into the building where the victim was last shown and they saw her killer escaping out the back.

Knight and Torres went after him. They managed to lose him and so their killer was turning out to be a ghost. He even used a fake ID to rent the apartment. The killer used a real picture of himself in that fake ID and that meant they could use the photo to search for him in the database. Only his face wasn’t hitting any markers that Kasie could trace. She was also dealing with Fornell. Fornell came back to make sure that Gibbs was faking his death and so Kasie broke the good news. Fornell and Gibbs were great friends. Fornell later tracked down Gibbs and the two men got to talking. Gibbs discussed his investigation. He also informed his team that there was a second man in all the security photos of their killer.

The second man wore the same thing each time. He also wore a K-95 mask and so they didn’t know what he looked like. They only knew where he was going to be. They tracked him down to an apartment building and then waited for him. They were soon able to arrest him once he came out. Once they had him under arrest, they tried to find out who he was. They ran facial recognition and checked his fingerprints. Nothing showed up in their system. He was a ghost or so he wanted people to believe. The man they arrested was FBI Special Agent Alden Parker. Parker was investigating the serial killer as well and he didn’t want NCIS blowing his cover. He also didn’t want to be working with Gibbs.

Gibbs was a suspended agent. He also had something of notoriety and not in a good way. He did punch an unarmed man unprovoked after all. Technically, the guy was a suspect. He also murdered dogs that weren’t good enough for dog fights and so Gibbs beat him up. It got him suspended. He was also pretending to be dead and so Parker didn’t want to work with him but Vance forced him to keep Gibbs in the loop. Gibbs was on the phone with Kasie when she found their suspect. The suspect was seen buying flowers near a cemetery and Gibbs went to the cemetery before Kasie could warn the others. The team found Gibbs with his gun on the suspect. They told him to stand and eventually did. Even if he really didn’t want to.

Gibbs came close to shooting the guy. He only stopped because Parker was there to remind him not to cross that line and thankfully he didn’t. The team was able to arrest their killer. They identified him as Paul LeMere. He had his real passport on him and he had over three hundred thousand dollars. He had it hidden in his mother’s grave. The team brought LaMere back to headquarters and they tried to interrogate him only he refused to answer questions without his lawyer. LaMere gave them the lawyer’s phone number. The NCIS legal team called the number and it was disconnected. LaMere was simply buying time. He told NCIS that they didn’t have any evidence against him and he had been wrong.

They found his thumb drive. LaMere was being paid fifty grand after every murder and so he wasn’t a serial killer killing for thrills. He was actually a contract killer. He was a former Navy. He got kicked out for bad behavior and so Knight mentioned his offshore accounts to him while she was questioning him. But he reacted badly. He threw into the glass and used the momentum to break out. Torres was following him and he almost had when LaMere found Kasie and took her hostage. He was threatening to kill her when Gibbs of all people took him down. He didn’t kill him. He just wounded him. Gibbs got his revenge.

He also seems to care about Marcie as more than friends because he had gotten jealous when she said she was going away with a friend named Mitch. Only Mitch was short for Michelle.
