In tonight’s Station 19 episode, everyone forgave Sullivan. They forgave him for the Maya thing because Maya proved willing to forgive him and they also forgave him because they all wanted to make fun of him. Sullivan is trending. He recorded defending the Seattle Fire Department with his shirt off and now he’s trending. People are calling “Fire Zaddy”. He was something to talk about during the heatwave.
Seattle was experiencing a heatwave like never before and not only was Station 19 a designated cooling center but it was also having a special day because they were welcoming a new engine and usually when that happens the community is asked to come see the new engine in person. They even get to climb on it. The kids tried do that and their hands got burned because a metal tube left in the sun had been too hot to handle.
Sullivan had to water it down. It was good that they were a designated cooling place because they invited everyone inside to cool down and grab some water. Maya’s wife Dr. Carina DeLuca was volunteering as the doctor on call at the cooling center. Which was awkward because Carina and Maya were arguing.
They were having a fight about children. Carina wants children and Maya doesn’t. Maya told Carina she couldn’t have kids because it would compromise her career. This was all Maya was willing to say on the matter and Carina was upset because she does want children. She wanted children more than she wanted to get married. It was Maya who convinced her to get married and now Carina was trying to do the same on the children subject.
Being around each other only led to more arguments. Carina was therefore giving herself space from Maya while they both treated people who came in and Carina was soon busy. A teenage boy came in with heatstroke. His football coach/father had him running drills in the middle of his this heatwave and it almost killed the kid. Carina asked the father to step away while she treated the teenager. She didn’t want him around and she told him as much to his face.
Sullivan tried to tell her to be nicer to the public and she told him that he doesn’t get to judge her after he assaulted teenager. She was talking about him knocking the cell phone out of the teenager’s hand. Sullivan got the nickname “Fire Zaddy” because of it.
The Seattle Fire Department had their PR Manager speak with Sullivan. They wanted him to go on record detailing why he knocked the phone out of the kid’s hand and they wanted to capitalize on all the attention he was getting. Sullivan however didn’t want to do it.
He also said if the kid’s parents were going to sue him that he would have heard it by now and so he wanted to let the attention die. He didn’t want to capitalize on anything. He just wants to be left alone. Sullivan was going through a lot right now. He was going through a divorce and his ex-wife suddenly wanted to be friendly with him. He told her that if they weren’t going to be married then they didn’t have to be friends.
The two later ran into each other again when both of their stations responded to a pile up. There had been a crack in the road that crept up because of the heat and so several cars crashed and one car had even landed on top of the other. The firefighters did their best to remove everyone safely. Andy and Sullivan both took a break at the same time and so they spoke. Finally! Sullivan told her that when you love someone you fight and argue and Andy didn’t do that. She just walked away. Andy didn’t speak to Sullivan for ten months. He had to contact her and he only did so because he was desperate. He wanted to fight for their marriage. Andy did not. She filed divorce papers and to make matters worse she went on to sleep with his captain.
Andy accidentally let Theo in on her new secret. Theo and her are friends and he feels he has to tell his girlfriend Vic because he doesn’t want to keep secrets from her. Sullivan meanwhile tried to make peace with Carina but she blamed him for Maya’s demotion and why Maya didn’t want kids. He told her that he owns his part. He’s not going to own Maya’s as well. Maya and Carina. Maya admitted she helped a kid today and that she was good with him. It made her realize that she wants to want kids. She’s just not there yet. Maya and Carina still needed time to make decisions and Carina was willing to give Maya that time because she was hoping that at the end Maya would want children as well.
Being a parent is hard work. Look at Ben. Ben’s son Joey came for a ride along with the ambulance because he wants to be a doctor one day and unfortunately their first call was to the homeless camp. Joey used to be homeless. The person they treated had been a friend of his and he kept telling Ben that his friend had a DNR.
It means Do Not Resuscitate. It’s when someone doesn’t want to be saved if they’re down and don’t have a pulse and Ben still kept working on the man because there was nothing to prove he had a DNR. It was unofficial. Ben kept working until he was sure he lost the patient and then he called it in. Ben tried to turn it into a teaching mode. He told him that if he wants to be a doctor that he couldn’t let anything or anyone get in the way of treating a patient.
Later, Miller asked the others to join his Crisis One program. He was still trying to figure out how to get everyone onboard with it and so Sullivan agreed to speak with PR Manager if he could get more support for the Crisis One program.
The team was also able to welcome the new fire engine and Ben arranged for Joey to see his foster siblings again.
THE END!
