In tonight’s The Family Chantel episode, Chantel flew to the Dominican Republic to support her husband. Pedro was feeling isolated. He was fighting with his family and so Chantel decided to support him and she thought it would be a good idea to bring along both her mom and sister. Winter just came out of a nasty relationship. She needs to detox. Her mother wants to support her and Chantel thought a change of scenery will do them good.
It was a girls trip. Karen even left behind her husband and this was the first time she and her husband have ever been this far apart. But Pedro was needing backup. Pedro confronted his mother about why she let his father do whatever he liked and she said that was just men from their country. She and Pedro’s maternal relatives have all talked about men from the DR like they’re all married. And that they couldn’t find a single one.
Which is crap. It’s a cop-out if nothing else. There’s plenty of single men and the women in his family just weren’t looking for them and they were settling for being the sidepieces. They also thought his father was great because he gave Lidia monetary support. Pedro didn’t care about the money.
He just wanted a father to be there and support him and to love him. His mother didn’t get that. She thought he was being childish for wanting his parent in his life and so its good that he has Chantel. Chantel doesn’t really get on with her in-laws. They didn’t like her and Nicole was still hoping to fight her one day. Nicole hates Chantel. She didn’t want Chantel down there and she was thinking of getting back together with Alejandro just to spite her family.
They didn’t want her with Alejandro. Pedro hates him and Nicole claims not to know why. Nicole also likes to say that she never treated Chantel like Pedro treats Alejandro and that was a lie. Nicole has always been disrespectful. She even makes fun of the texture of Chantel’s hair and that has some racists undertones. Nicole didn’t support her brother when it matters. She therefore has no right to judge Chantel if she herself was dating someone her siblings detests. But Chantel didn’t come all the way down there for Nicole. She came to support Pedro and she tried doing so. She met up with him and his mother. She told her mother-in-law that Pedro still has a lot of questions about his father and she tried to ask some of those questions.
Chantel asked Lidia if she loved Pedro’s father. Maybe not now but at least back then and Lidia said she didn’t. Lidia also tried to claim that Pedro’s questions were answered years ago by everyone. Only Pedro spoke up then. He said he kept asking about his father and no one would tell him details or what his father was like. They just wanted to sweep the man under the rug. Which frustrates Pedro because he wants a relationship with his father and he’s tired of the women in his family standing in the way of this. Pedro’s father was a huge secret. He knew his father was married. He knew his father wasn’t in his life and Lidia lacks empathy. She doesn’t empathize with her son. And still Chantel spoke up in Lidia’s defense with Pedro.
Chantel tried to say that maybe Lidia was still hurt after all these years. Lidia probably did love Pedro Senior and the relationship didn’t work out because he already had a family. Chantel tried to empathize with Lidia as a way of giving Pedro answers that needs. It was him that said his mother was problematic and that’s his whole family. He said that his family has been taking advantage of other people. Pedro even came to question if he was taking advantage of Chantel and so Chantel asked him if he was in love with her when they got married. He said he was. She then said that that’s what makes him different because he was in love and he didn’t actively try to use her. And so Pedro questioned if he did unconsciously.
Pedro was questioning everything nowadays. He was questioning his marriage, his questioning his mother, and he was also questioning Nicole. He later asked Nicole if she wanted to go with him to meet their half-siblings. She turned it down because she doesn’t want to meet up with their father or get his side of what happened. Nicole doesn’t want a relationship with her father or his family. She wants to ignore them all. And Pedro doesn’t.
Pedro wants answers.
