In tonight’s The Rookie episode, the people of LA were looking for buried treasure. Someone posted a poem online titled “Treasure Hunt” and everyone believes its real. Officer Nolan and Detective Harper have even arrested people who’ve gotten into trouble for following the poem’s directives. But there’s nothing they could do about it.

They couldn’t stop people from trying to solve it and they couldn’t take it down because technically it was free speech. Nolan being ever the do-gooder had kept the print out of the poem. He was riding with Officer Chen later and they decided to follow the poem. They both wanted the reward money. They ended up catching a murder case instead and it’s a good thing they followed the poem because they were able it in after a poor woman was stabbed in the chest with an axe.

They were busy while Sergeant Bradford was busy being despicable. Bradford chose to ride with Officer Jerry McGrady and he only chose him over Chen because he was trying to force McGrady into retirement. McGrady was pass the age for retirement. He was injured. He talks a lot and there weren’t any jobs he could do. Him being with Bradford was first time he had been on the streets in years and Bradford used that opportunity to try to guilt him into retirement. It didn’t work.

Most of McGrady’s friends are dead and he doesn’t discuss his family. The job is the only thing he has. Bradford and McGrady were quickly asked to come back in after the first treasure hunt murder and them along with other officers were told they needed to find the treasure to stop the chaos.

Bradford believes he could find the treasure hunt by investigating the case that led to the hunt. The treasure hunt was posted by a bank robber and his loot was never found after he was arrested. Bradford wanted to solve the cold case. He made a bet with Chen on who could solve it first and Bradford was working with McGrady while Chen was working with Harper and Nolan.

One was deemed the geek squad and the other the muscle. It was pretty clear which. Chen and her team tried to solve the follow the clues in he poem and that led them to the observatory. They were there when a guy with a bomb came by. He wanted to use the bomb to tear down a wall to find the treasure and unfortunately he dropped it and caught it. And so it went off.

It killed the guy who brought. Just him. No innocent bystanders were injured and so this treasure hunt was dangerous. The guy who posted the poem was interrogated. He wasn’t any help. He posted the poem because he’s going to die in prison and so he wanted to create chaos before he goes. He didn’t tell Bradford where the treasure is. The original detective on the case just happens to be a dead and he was an old friend of McGrady.

McGrady was able to read his old friend’s reports. They tried to follow the clues as much as possible. They had to take a break after the bombing. Then they were going to call it in for a day when McGrady’s daughter came by. His very attractive daughter and so Bradford couldn’t fire McGrady then.

Bradford actually went on to have dinner with both McGrady and his daughter. He enjoyed talking to the daughter and he tried to get her to see that it would be best for her father to retire, but she wasn’t the issue. Her father was. McGrady didn’t want to retire. He loves his job and he was surprisingly good at it. McGrady put together the hints. He solved the treasure hunt and found the gold. He and Bradford were just a little faster than the other team.

Chen and Harper were slowed down by the fact they witnessed an attempted murder and they had to arrest someone. The ladies chose to call it a tie. They said it was a tie and so that’s that. Bradford had to just accept it and he tried one more time to talk to McGrady about retirement but McGrady beat him to it.

McGrady was ready to retire. He was stuck inside for so long that he felt like a real cop working this case and it allowed him to leave the way he came in. Which is what he wanted all along. He wanted to go out on his own terms. McGrady was retiring. He respected Bradford for not forcing him out and he might put in a good word with his daughter. McGrady had a heartfelt goodbye to everyone at the station later on.

Nolan had to miss it because he was busy rescuing his girlfriend. He told his girlfriend that he suspected her boss was their serial killer and so she went in to investigate. She wanted to prove Lt Fred Mitchell was innocent and unfortunately he was guilty. She found evidence that he had taken from his victims.

Nolan’s girlfriend collected evidence that they later used for a warrant but the house blew up right as they were serving the warrant and there’s no telling what happened to Mitchell or the evidence still inside of the house.

THE END!
