The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) has decided to grant Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor’s (Melissa Ordway) surrogate request, but the situation’s about to get more complicated.
Mariah was under the impression that she’d be carrying Abby and Chance Chancellor’s (Donny Boaz) child, but Chance will soon get bad news that makes that impossible for now.
Due to Chance’s low sperm count and low motility damage, he won’t be serving as the father of Abby’s baby. The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest that Abby will talk to Mariah about moving ahead with the surrogacy anyway and just using a sperm donor.
Y&R fans can expect Abby and Mariah to reach an agreement during the week of February 1-5, so it sounds like they’ll be on the same page about Mariah still carrying this child.
After all, Mariah will still want to give Abby and Chance their shot at a family, and it doesn’t make any difference on her end since she’s just the surrogate here.
Of course, we don’t want to downplay Mariah’s contribution because Abby and Chance are asking a lot of her! It honestly seems pretty selfish for Abby to dump this on Mariah when she could hire another surrogate whose life wouldn’t be derailed.
Nevertheless, this is at least giving Mariah a story – and we’ll hopefully see Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) a bit more often as well. In fact, The Young and the Restless writers recently delivered a big hint about a change in Mariah and Tessa’s living arrangement.
Before Abby dropped the surrogate bomb, Mariah marveled over the Chancellor mansion being a national treasure. She was floored by the giant size of it, so she guessed there must be rooms Chance and Abby have never even been in.
Chance suggested there was an entire wing he’s never seen before, so we know there’s plenty of room – especially now that Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Esther Valentine (Kate Linder) have moved out.
Y&R fans haven’t seen Mariah and Tessa’s studio apartment set in a while now. Although Tessa and Mariah are fond of their shoebox, it’s surely not going to work for Princess Abby and all the hovering she’s about to do. Abby seems poised to turn into a major Momzilla who’s obsessed with the bun in Mariah’s oven.
With that in mind, Abby will no doubt insist on Tessa and pregnant Mariah coming to live at the Chancellor mansion. That could give Abby a chance to fixate on Mariah’s pregnancy around the clock and basically drive “Teriah” crazy.
There’ll be some good opportunities for conflict, so that could bring comedy in some ways and drama in others.
Mariah got a little taste of mansion life when she was forced to stay during the ice storm, and Abby’s already starting to become a tad overbearing. It’s easy to see the potential for Mariah and Tessa to be pressured into moving in.
It’d beat the cramped quarters of their old studio, but would Abby’s mama drama be worth it?
We should note that after Mariah decides to be Abby’s gestational carrier, she’ll battle some second thoughts. It’s possible Mariah will back out at the last second, so that’s something to keep in mind, too. Mariah might be better off ditching the idea while she still can!
