The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) may choose a new name for Bowie and set Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) off. That could be when a baby battle first breaks out for the surrogate and this child’s mom.
Y&R fans know Mariah decided the baby needed a name while she was in captivity. She was tired of calling him kiddo and thought a rockstar name like Bowie would be a better fit.
However, Abby is this baby’s true mother and that means she gets to decide what name goes on the birth certificate.
On the August 30 episode, Mariah repeatedly refers to the baby as “Bowie.” It’s Bowie this and Bowie that…Bowie, Bowie, Bowie!
If Abby liked the name, it seems like she would pipe up and voice her approval. The fact that Abby doesn’t do that suggests she might end up changing it.
Abby might think it’s a little too hipster-ish for a baby that’s practically royalty in Genoa City.
This kid has Newman, Abbott AND Chancellor ties, so Abby may want something a little more distinguished.
Besides, Abby already tossed around some names with Chance Chancellor (last played by Donny Boaz) way back on their honeymoon.
If Abby’s actually able to get in touch with Chance, they might even settle on a name together. If not, Abby can use her own judgment and select the one she thinks is best.
Abby might also sense Mariah’s unhealthy attachment to the baby soon and think this could be a beneficial step.
By giving the baby a new name, Abby may feel like it’ll help Mariah separate her intense bonding experience with Bowie from reality.
Mariah has no blood ties to this child and agreed to hand him over to Abby after the birth, so a new name could help with the transition.
Unfortunately, it could also set Mariah off and spark some conflict.
Mariah feels like Bowie is already this child’s name in her heart, so she may lash out once Abby wants to call him something else.
There’s bound to be some tension between Mariah and Abby due to Mariah’s controlling nature when it comes to the baby, so stay tuned to see how they handle it. We’ll keep you posted as other Y&R news and updates come in.
