The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) could cheat thanks to their current alliance and the surprise reconnection it’s bringing. Will their respective relationships with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) be destroyed?
Y&R perhaps started laying the groundwork for this Billy and Phyllis partnership back when Billy and Lily moved in together.
Phyllis caught Lily looking at the same building she once lived in with Billy, so she rubbed it in. Although Billy and Lily got a new unit, it was still an issue at first and a tricky topic of conversation.
Despite Billy’s constant need to protect Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and meddle in her business, maybe she’s not the ex to worry about.
Lily honestly doesn’t seem nervous about Billy drifting back in Victoria’s direction and often cracks jokes related to her.
There isn’t a real sense of concern when it comes to Victoria these days, but Lily’s concerns about Phyllis could be growing.
Lily seemed bothered by the fact that Billy went into this alliance with Phyllis without filling her in first.
Billy argued that it was a last-minute thing, but that wasn’t exactly true.
We saw that Billy contemplated contacting Lily to offer a heads-up, but he ultimately didn’t make the call. That suggests Billy indeed considered filling Lily in and thought better of it.
Lily later suggested she trusted Billy to handle things on his own with Phyllis, but she looked uneasy as he left.
The July 16 Y&R episode’s conversation also brought Phyllis’ mention of being strange bedfellows, but Billy pointed out they weren’t so strange once upon a time.
It’s easy to see how the show could be building a new cheating story brick by brick.
Let’s be honest and point out that Billy doesn’t really have chemistry with Michelle Stafford’s version of Phyllis. That’s no one’s fault. It just is what it is! Some actors click in certain pairings and others don’t.
However, people would no doubt be expecting a bedroom betrayal any minute now if Gina Tognoni were still in the role.
Based on the writing Billy and Phyllis are getting, it’s reasonable to think that’s where things might be headed anyway.
It doesn’t matter if Phyllis and Billy have chemistry anymore since this would be more about blowing up their current relationships.
It wouldn’t be about putting Billy and Phyllis back together; it’d just be about derailing their romances with Lily and Nick.
Lily and Billy have been coasting along for too long without any major obstacles. Likewise, all Phyllis and Nick do is hit the sheets and talk about Summer Newman (Hunter King).
This might be the right time to shake things up with a cheating scandal to push Billy and Phyllis in some new romantic directions.
