The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the show’s looking for a new leading man, but it looks like he’ll be playing a familiar character. Based on the casting breakdown shared by Soap Hub, all signs point to the show recasting the role of Chance Chancellor (last played by Donny Boaz).
Although Y&R’s calling him “Derek,” it’s quite common to disguise names when soaps are on the hunt for new actors. That’s especially true when you’re dealing with recasts. Replacing an actor with a new one can be a rather delicate situation, so it’s not unusual for the name in a casting call to not match.
The Young and the Restless is hoping to cast a mid-30s white male to be included in stories starting later this year. Of course, this guy should be handsome and in good shape – as with pretty much any leading man on a soap.
However, this next part really tips us off to the fact that this is Chance and not just some random newbie. This character is said to be “all-American” – and he’s an adventurer who’s not afraid to go rogue.
The description also reveals this mystery man “has seen enough to be jaded,” but he’s an optimist at heart. This guy is playful yet resilient. He also isn’t scared to show his emotions when necessary, so everything about this casting breakdown has Chance written all over it.
Chance is a war hero and federal agent who’s certainly been known to be tough in high-stress situations – like when he pulled off that rescue at The Grand Phoenix.
We’ve seen Chance be mischievous and flirty with Abby as well. There were also plenty of emotional moments from Chance as they faced their infertility issues together.
That “all-American” part really fits since Chance is just your average “aw, shucks” and apple pie kind of guy. Although Boaz claimed Chance wouldn’t be killed off or replaced in his departure news post on Instagram, that always seemed doubtful under the circumstances.
Chance can’t just disappear forever and leave Abby without any sort of closure.
Instead, it sounds like Y&R’s gearing up to bring a new Chance on for a fresh chapter – hopefully before Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) gives birth to a baby for Chance and Abby. We’ll offer updates as other Y&R news becomes available.
