The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Jerry Douglas is dead at the age of 88, so Y&R fans are mourning the loss and saying a final goodbye to John Abbott. The Abbott family patriarch had already passed on back in 2006, but now it’s time to bid a tough farewell to his portrayer.
Of course, Douglas left his mark on the CBS soap through his fantastic work on almost 900 episodes. John’s relationship with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) was particularly special – and now Jack does his best to live up to his father’s legacy and keep his father’s memory alive.
Y&R viewers will certainly work to keep Jerry Douglas’ memory alive now as well. According to TMZ’s report, Douglas battled a brief illness that led to his death.
Douglas was set to turn 89 on November 12, but he had a fun luncheon to celebrate his birthday back in October.
That luncheon was organized by Douglas’ TV daughter, Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott), and included several other familiar faces from the show. It’s nice to know Douglas was able to come together with loved ones and have what would become a final celebration.
Douglas had a long career in the film and television industry, so he’ll live on through the roles he brought to life.
The former soap star also did some work on theater productions and had a great singing voice, so he was definitely a multi-talented individual who’ll be remembered for many projects.
Nevertheless, The Young and the Restless fans will remember Douglas best as John Abbott since he was such a powerful, memorable force on the show.
Douglas leaves behind his wife, Kym Douglas, as well as three children. Our hearts go out to the Douglas family as they grieve this difficult loss.
