The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Monday, May 31, reveals that Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) will be declared not guilty by reason of insanity – and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will deliver a horrifying ultimatum. Here’s what to expect on Monday’s exciting show.
In Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) hotel suite, she’ll open the door to Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). Phyllis will point out it was wise to postpone the wedding, but it won’t feel that way in the moment to Summer.
Summer will suggest that maybe it’d be easier to survive all this with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) if they were already husband and wife.
Summer will wonder what would happen if they “just said the hell with it” and got married today. Phyllis will look a bit panicked and will convince Summer that her plan to postpone was the right one.
Summer will also mention that Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) floated the idea of starting fresh there in Genoa City.
Phyllis will be taken aback over the news, but she’ll warn Summer not to overreact. However, Phyllis will think Summer has to be honest with herself. She’ll wonder what Summer’s gut is telling her, so Summer will make a confession.
When Summer watches Kyle and Tara together, she feels like there’s something more to their connection – maybe more than Kyle’s willing to admit to himself.
Nevertheless, Summer won’t be sure of anything and will suggest she may just be battling insecurities. She’ll want to trust Kyle and not let this situation destroy what they have.
At the Abbott mansion, Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) will yell outside the door about how he doesn’t want to have to call the cops and scare Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez).
After Ashland’s allowed in, he’ll demand to see his son. Tara will beg Ashland to drop this custody drama and not try to take Harrison away.
Ashland will insist Harrison needs his father more than the parent who betrayed the family and ran off to her ex-lover’s family. He’ll wonder if maybe the affair was more serious than Tara’s letting on.
Ashland will even suggest that maybe Tara and Kyle still have something going on between them. He won’t get why Kyle’s family is even involved in this.
When Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) tries to intervene and reminds Ashland this is his property, Ashland will lash out at him. He won’t want Jack butting in since this is a personal matter.
Tara will finally agree to let Ashland see Harrison since it’s what’s best for their son, but she’ll warn him not to say anything about the custody situation or divorce.
Ashland will promise not to scare or upset Harrison. He’ll note that he won’t even say anything about Tara’s lies or dirty little affair.
“Watch it,” Kyle will pipe up nearby. He’ll make it clear that he knows exactly who he’s dealing with and isn’t backing down.
While Ashland is upstairs with Harrison, Kyle will worry to Jack that maybe he should’ve brought up the paternity issue. Jack will insist Kyle has to wait for proof and handle it correctly.
At Crimson Lights, Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) will discuss Chelsea’s hearing today. They’ll agree they don’t want Chelsea in prison for Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) sake.
Later, Rey will pitch the idea of a trip to help put all this behind them. Sharon will suggest a second honeymoon in Miami, though they’ll know they can’t just hop on a plane and go.
When Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster), she’ll talk about getting ready for her first day back at school. Once Faith leaves the main dining area, Sharon will hope her daughter can handle it.
Rey will think Faith seems more confident and will hint that she may have a secret weapon. Sharon and Rey will notice that Moses Winters (Jacob Aaron Gaines) is laughing with Faith on the patio.
At Chelsea’s psychiatric facility, she’ll learn from Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) that the judge has issued a ruling in the case: not guilty by reason of insanity.
Michael will explain that Chelsea won’t have to serve time in prison, but she will have to stay at that facility. The DA will add that they’ll reevaluate on an ongoing basis as they get reports from Chelsea’s doctor.
Chelsea will understand that this is a positive outcome, but she’ll still seethe over Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) never facing any consequences for his own actions.
Michael will argue that Chelsea has a chance to get better. He won’t think the same can be said for Adam.
At The Grand Phoenix, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will find Adam and Victor in the lobby. They’ll all discuss Chelsea’s case briefly before Victor invites Nick to sit.
Victor will bring up the job offer he has in mind for Noah, but Nick won’t think his son’s going to accept it. Noah hates Adam and got burned the last time he tried to work in the family business.
Plus, Noah has built a new life for himself and seems happy. Victor will argue that it’s not a suit and tie job. He’ll think Noah can use his many talents and will hope that this could lead to a permanent position for Noah in Genoa City.
Nick will vow to support whatever Noah decides before talk turns to a joint business venture between Newman Media and New Hope. Victor will think this would be a great opportunity to give New Hope free publicity and a new platform.
Adam will be all for doing some good in the world, but Nick will think it sounds too good to be true. He’ll assume Victor is working some angle since he’s pushing the brotherly bonding thing awfully hard.
Victor won’t see what’s so wrong about wanting Adam and Nick to put their feud behind them. He’ll love the idea of boys working side by side, so Nick will agree to talk to Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and give it some thought.
Once Nick’s gone, Adam will get a call and find out that Chelsea’s going to stay at the psych hospital. Victor will visit Chelsea soon after and will point out that he still has a vested interest in the mother of his grandson.
When Victor mentions getting Chelsea the help she needs, Chelsea will argue that she’s well and doesn’t need the kind of help they dish out there. She’ll remind Victor that it was all a ruse.
Victor will argue that Chelsea is mistaken and is far more ill than she’s willing to admit to herself. He’ll warn that if Chelsea plays the game the way he wants it to be played and submits herself to therapy, she’ll get out of there.
If not, Chelsea will stay locked up forever. Y&R spoilers say Chelsea’s eyes will widen in horror at the ultimatum!
At Society, Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) will check out the fashion house that Ashland wants to send Summer to work at. She’ll browse the website as she leaves Ashland a voicemail about it being perfect.
Sally will vow to start leaving some breadcrumbs for Summer so they can make this happen – the sooner, the better.
When Summer shows up, she’ll be annoyed with Sally’s presence and won’t buy Sally’s latest attempt to apologize. Summer will insist that every time Sally tries to smooth things over, she’s up to something. She’ll wonder what Sally’s scheme is this time around.
Sally will act like Summer and everyone else are just going to think the worst of her no matter what. She’ll hint that Summer may not have to worry about her for much longer.
Sally will mention an incredibly opportunity in Lamon – Creative Director at Marketi. She’ll talk about them doing a quiet search to fill the position, so Summer will suggest she’s rooting for Sally.
“I bet you are,” Sally will reply. When Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman) appears, she’ll find out about the offer and point out that the Forresters are one of the backers at Marketi. Summer will gleefully wonder if Sally knew that, so Sally will insist she didn’t.
After Summer steps away to take a call, she’ll get updates from Kyle about Ashland’s visit and the paternity results being in.
As for Lauren, she’ll think it’s nice to see Sally and Summer getting along. Sally will contend that they might even be on their way to being friends.
Once Sally’s alone, she’ll video chat with Shirley Spectra (Patrika Darbo) and wonder if she knows how involved Eric Forrester (John McCook) is at Marketi. Sally will admit she may need a huge favor from Eric.
Back at the Abbott mansion, Kyle will notice that Tara seems upset following Ashland’s time with Harrison. Tara will admit that Harrison kept wondering when they’d all go home together and it broke her heart.
She’ll think it broke Ashland’s heart as well, but Kyle will suggest it could be another one of Ashland’s ploys.
Ashland will tell someone over the phone to do what they need to do to get his son back. He’ll rejoin the Abbotts inside and insist they’re far from done here. Ashland will bark threats until the doorbell rings – and Kyle will return with the paternity results.
“Harrison is not your son; he’s mine,” Kyle will declare as he holds up the envelope containing proof. Ashland will sport a furious expression while Tara stands there looking distraught.
When Michael meets up with Lauren, he’ll confess that he has every reason to believe Chelsea is truly ill. Even so, things will continue to nag Michael. He’ll relay that he’s suspicious when he looks at the whole picture and will have to wonder if Victor is pulling the strings.
Nick will bring Phyllis up to speed on Victor’s desire to bring Noah back into the fold – and the joint venture plan with Adam.
Phyllis won’t buy that this is really about bringing the family back together. She’ll think it’s more about Victor wanting to control them.
