The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Thursday, September 30, reveals that Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) tattoo and wallet swap helped fake Bobby DeFranco’s death, so Y&R fans will hear a burning car story as new details come to light.
At Crimson Lights, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will bring up a 40-year-old car crash and will mention the name “Bobby DeFranco.” In front of both Nick and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), Ashland will admit that was him. He’ll talk about being born Robert DeFranco and befriending someone not even his parents knew about: the real Ashland Locke.
Since they were such kindred spirits, Bobbie and Ashland got matching tattoos on their calves. Bobby’s dad beat him up for it, so the real Ashland said they should just get out of there. It led to the teens bumming around beach towns and taking odd jobs on the coast.
One day they wound up in an arcade in Kingsburg, where Bobby’s father tracked him down. The real Ashland threw Bobby under a pinball machine and claimed he was off with a girl in Philadelphia. Saving Bobby like that only strengthened their bond.
The real Ashland was interested in broadcasting and communications, so he scored an interview with Camilla Rhodes. Unfortunately, he never made it since he wrapped his car around a tree. Bobby was ejected and unable to get Ashland out since he was pinned to the steering wheel. As the car became engulfed in flames, Bobby tugged on Ashland and pulled his wallet out in the process.
That led to Bobby picking up Ashland’s wallet and throwing his own wallet down. Bobby ran away just before the car exploded and avoided the cops, who assumed Bobby died based on the wallet and a positive body ID from Bobby’s father. The body was badly burned and DNA testing was limited in those days, so there was no need to investigate the matter any further.
This horrible night became Bobby’s chance at a clean slate, so he embraced a life as Ashland Locke and got the job when he went to the interview with Camilla Rhodes. The rest was history according to the man we now know as Ashland.
Nick will insist he has questions about this split-second decision that seems awfully calculated. Ashland won’t care if Nick’s skeptical and will just hope Nick never finds himself in a similar situation. Ashland will be sorry that he wasn’t able to save his friend’s life and for not telling Victoria the whole truth.
“How could you do this?” Victoria will ask before looking at Nick. Naturally, Nick will be stunned to learn HE’S the one Victoria is lashing out at. Victoria will leave in a huff, so Ashland will guess Nick got what he wanted. Nick will argue that he wanted the truth, but Ashland will sarcastically suggest he really gave Victoria peace of mind!
Nick will contend that since Ashland’s first instinct was to grab his friend’s wallet and run, that tells him everything he needs to know. Ashland will fire back about making hard choices in a tragic situation and won’t think Nick could ever understand that.
Afterward, Ashland will find Victoria ruminating in her office. He’ll suggest he was so ashamed and haunted by that night that he never told another living soul until now. Ashland will once again apologize for not telling Victoria the whole story and will understand if this is what breaks them up.
Nevertheless, Ashland will really hope Victoria can get past this. He’ll assure Victoria that he’s never loved anyone the way he loves her. Victoria will insist she’s got a lot to process, so Ashland will agree to give her time to think.
Once Ashland’s gone, Nick will show up and get an earful from his sister. Victoria will feel like Nick betrayed her trust the second he got on that plane to Jersey. She won’t think it’s fair to judge Ashland for the mistakes of his youth and won’t believe Nick can understand Ashland’s perspective.
Victoria will wonder why something that happened 40 years ago would mean Ashland isn’t worthy of love, forgiveness and happiness. After Victoria tells Nick to leave for Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) wedding, she’ll add that he shouldn’t bother flying to Tuscany next.
Nick will ask if Victoria’s saying he’s no longer invited, but she’ll tell him to just go. On his way out, Nick will suggest that this news about Ashland concerns Victoria more than she’ll ever admit.
After Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) shows up at their hotel suite, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will make herself scarce so that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) can talk to her mom alone. Mariah won’t be thrilled about Sharon not giving her the space she asked for.
Sharon will still want to know how Mariah’s really doing, so Mariah will admit it’s better being out of the Chancellor mansion. After Sharon alludes to hearing some things secondhand, Mariah won’t like the idea being gossiped about.
However, Mariah will acknowledge that she felt a strong bond with Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor and had to create some distance. Sharon will note that she could suggest some therapists to get Mariah through this postpartum separation anxiety. She won’t want Mariah to isolate herself or rush into anything big.
That comment will confirm to Mariah that Tessa and Sharon have been discussing things without her. Sharon will act like she pried the truth out of Tessa about Mariah’s desire to have a baby. When Sharon wonders if Mariah is really ready for that, she’ll insist she is.
“Yes, 100 percent, but clearly Tessa is not,” Mariah will declare. Sharon will try to play up the benefits of waiting and will think having a baby will be wonderful when the time is right. She just won’t want Mariah to have a knee-jerk reaction, but Mariah will snap that having a baby with the woman she loves is the next step to moving on with her life.
At Society, Tessa will sit at the bar and chat with Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway). Abby will offer an open invitation for “Teriah” to come spend time with Dominic, but she’ll assure Tessa there’s no pressure. When Tessa receives a text, she’ll dash off since Mariah’s tone will seem serious.
Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) will arrive right as Tessa’s heading out the door. Amanda will also have to rush off due to Imani Benedict’s (Leigh-Ann Rose) text about Naya Bendedict’s (Ptosha Storey) heart rate spiking. Devon will suggest he can go with Amanda, but she’ll think it’s best if she heads to the emergency room alone.
That’ll leave Devon and Abby to talk about how Mariah’s coping. Devon will contend that Mariah still needs time and will feel like there’s only so much they can do. Meanwhile, Mariah will rip into Tessa for going behind her back – first with Abby, now with Sharon. Mariah will wonder why Tessa would tell Sharon that she wanted them to have a baby.
There’ll be a brief snag when it comes to Moses Winters (Jacob Aaron Gaines) and Faith Newman’s (Reylynn Caster) date since Moses will forget his wallet. Fortunately, Moses will remember it in time – and the rest of the night will go off without a hitch.
After Moses and Faith enjoy dinner in a private room at Top of the Tower, they’ll discuss how magical it was to have Devon’s new singer serenade them. On the patio of Crimson Lights, Faith will declare it the most perfect night ever. Nearby, Sharon will gaze at the happy teen lovebirds and smile.
As other Y&R info comes in, we’ll pass along updates. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Moses and Faith will hopefully get some juicy drama sooner or later, but they’ll keep growing closer for now.
