The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Tuesday, January 5, teases that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) are quite chipper following their trip.
After giving Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) a present to open with the kids, Victoria guesses her parents haven’t heard the news about Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan). Nikki and Victor are stunned to learn Chelsea had a ruptured brain aneurysm that led to a stroke.
At Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) penthouse, he rants at someone over the phone and finds out there’s been no change in Chelsea’s condition. Adam insists he’ll take whatever protocol is necessary, but he has to see Chelsea today. If Adam doesn’t, he argues “there is gonna be hell to pay!”
At Chancellor Communications on Tuesday’s Young and the Restless episode, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) debates the story he’s planning with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil).
Lily still doesn’t like the idea of being part of it. She argues that it’d seem egotistical, but Billy thinks Lily is the hero of the story and wants her included.
Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) becomes the tiebreaker vote, so she tells Billy to rethink the story before she destroys every bit of credibility this company has. Although Amanda approves of Billy and Lily as a couple, she thinks it’s best to stay away from their relationship in this article.
Amanda suggests another exposé – one that centers around someone that readers can empathize with. Billy’s taken aback as he realizes Amanda means him. Lily’s excited about this angle as Amanda explains they’ll let Billy tackle the hard questions. They’ll show how Billy’s vengeful mission almost cost him his freedom.
Lily says Billy will get a platform to tell his story and can tackle any criticisms head-on. Billy knows he has a reputation for being a screwup, so this could be the redemption arc people are looking for.
“But if I’m the court jester, then SHE is the warrior queen,” Billy insists about Lily. He explains Lily’s driven by her desire to protect Chance Comm’s relentless pursuit of the truth, so Lily can get behind that.
At Society, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) walks in and sees Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) at the bar. Sally talks about feeling a chill and wonders if Kyle’s going to start avoiding her, too.
Summer Newman (Hunter King) is a consummate professional at work, but Sally insists Summer barely tolerates her. She wants Kyle’s opinion on if there’s any hope at all for fixing things.
Meanwhile, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) finds Summer at Jabot and says there’s something he needs her help with: Sally Spectra. “You know how much I respect you, but when it comes to Sally, I think that you can save yourself some valuable time and skip the spirited defense,” Summer insists.
Jack counters that he thinks Sally is worth his time – and he’s hoping Summer will hear him out. Summer will always listen to Jack no matter how misguided she thinks he is about Sally.
Jack wonders if Summer doesn’t think there’s any chance that she got the wrong impression of Sally. “I mean, I highly doubt it,” Summer says.
Summer points out Sally admitted that she was gunning for her job and would do anything to get it. Jack notes that Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) was the pot-stirrer and had already proven he couldn’t be trusted. Summer’s not defending Theo, but she can’t trust Sally either.
After the way Sally accused Summer of being handed her job due to nepotism, Summer doesn’t think Jack would be so willing to give Sally a pass if he’d heard her. Jack points out that Sally confessed to overreacting and got defensive.
“Look, she’s feeling insecure!” Jack argues. He doesn’t expect Summer to be Sally’s best friend, but he hopes Summer can give Sally another chance.
Back with Sally at Society, she admits part of the fault lies with her. However, Sally maintains that “like 75 percent of the fault lies with Theo.” She explains how Theo manipulated the situation, so Kyle confirms that Sally isn’t after Summer’s job – or him. “Not at all. No offense,” Sally says. “None taken,” Kyle replies.
Kyle seems suspicious of this sudden realization of Sally’s that Theo was causing trouble. However, Sally argues that she intends to work her way up at Fenmore’s by proving herself. She’s all about women supporting women and claims to really admire Summer.
At Newman Enterprises again, Victor tries to call Adam and gets voicemail. He now realizes while Adam tried to reach out to him in London. Victor learns Chelsea’s prognosis is pretty serious and is determined to help his son.
“You getting involved could be disastrous!” Nikki warns. However, Victor needs to be with Adam now and hopes Nikki can understand that.
Once Victor leaves, Victoria and Nikki discuss feeling bad for Chelsea and Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) sake. Nevertheless, Victoria’s struggling to have any pity for Adam.
Nikki’s frustrated over Victor being pulled back in through his unconditional love – and Victoria agrees Adam will milk this for all the sympathy it’s worth.
Nikki contends that they should be praying for Chelsea’s speedy recovery so “Chadam” can reunite with Connor. Victoria backs Nikki up on that since she still wants Adam and Chelsea to leave Genoa City for good.
After Victor shows up at Adam’s place, he enters and sees the mess his son created through his outburst. Victor asks about Chelsea, so Adam admits she’s still unconscious and he isn’t allowed to see her.
Adam wants to get Chelsea’s case reviewed by specialists and bring in some other opinions, but he just keeps hitting brick walls.
Victor notes that he’s paid for many a hospital wing in that hospital and is sure Chelsea’s in one of them. He calls the chief of staff and mentions bringing in specialists for Chelsea. “I want them to hurry this along,” Victor insists.
After Victor hangs up, he reassures Adam and lets his son know he did the right thing by reaching out to his father. “So, is this my karma? The woman that I love has to suffer because of the lifetime of my sins?” Adam wonders.
Victor doesn’t think that’s how the universe works, but he feels it’s good in moments of stress to reach deep into your soul and try to find out what the problem is.
Soon, the chief of staff calls back with updates on Chelsea. She’s still paralyzed on the right side and can’t speak, but she’s able to receive visitors now. Victor insists that the nurses are waiting, so Adam can go see Chelsea. As Adam’s leaving, he says he can’t thank Victor enough for what he’s done.
At Jabot again, Jack addresses the Summer situation during a meeting with Sally and Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman). Summer’s open to having a conversation, so Jack’s hoping they can get past their issues.
Sally appreciates Jack going out on a limb for her. Lauren adds that Summer would be a very valuable ally to have. Sally promises to do everything she can to win Summer over.
Summer finds Kyle at Society, where he talks to her about Sally swearing she’s not after her job. Summer suggests it looks like Sally’s trying to charm all the Abbott men since she just had this conversation with Jack. Kyle admits Jack obviously has a soft spot for Sally. He thinks Summer’s smartest move would be to keep Sally close.
Summer assumes it’s so she can realize how wrong she was about Sally. “I can’t believe that you’re on Sally’s side!” Summer snaps. Kyle insists he’s always 100 percent on Summer’s side.
Kyle just feels like if Summer befriends Sally, she’ll be able to smell the smoke before there’s fire. If it turns out Sally isn’t planning anything, Kyle feels like it won’t hurt for Summer to get along with Lauren’s assistant.
Summer argues that it’d be like befriending a snake – and she’d prefer to avoid venomous creatures. “Speaking of the cobra,” Summer says after getting a text from Sally about clearing the air. Kyle pushes Summer to neutralize Sally, so she agrees to talk to Sally.
At Crimson Lights, Amanda gives Lily the news about seeing her birth mother and half-sibling from afar. Amanda mentions how supportive Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) has been – and Lily agrees that Amanda needs to get answers.
Next, Victoria meets with Billy at Society and makes sure he’s coming to the winter festival with the kids. Talk turns to Billy’s pre-Christmas trip with Lily, which Billy admits didn’t happen.
He’s surprised that Johnny Abbott (Holden and Ryan Hare) was able to put enough together from overhearing their conversation to be anxious.
Victoria shrugs that Johnny’s just at that age where he picks up on things. She adds that she wanted to prepare Johnny in case Billy was a no-show on Christmas. “Wow, OK,” Billy says. He suspects Victoria might’ve been using Johnny to get him to cancel his trip with Lily, but Victoria denies it.
Billy reminds Victoria that she called him a few years ago when he was with Phyllis Summer (Michelle Stafford) to tell him that Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) was having a hard time sleeping.
“You are kidding me right now, aren’t you?” an outraged Victoria says. She wonders if Billy seriously thinks she’s plotting against his romances and using their children to do it.
Victoria thinks this is the most egotistical idea she’s ever heard and isn’t cool with these ridiculous accusations. Billy backs down and insists he still had a great time with Lily in town. Victoria assures Billy she’s so glad about that, but she’s not very convincing.
In the Jabot boardroom, Lauren and Jack reflect on the second chances they’ve been given. Although Lauren still feels like there’s more to Sally’s story, she believes Sally will open up in time. Jack feels everyone’s entitled to have a fresh start any way they choose.
On the Crimson Lights patio, Sally meets with Summer to put most of the blame on Theo and insist she’s not the “man-snatching job-stealer” Summer thought she was. Sally’s just trying to figure out where she belongs, so Summer says she gets that it must be hard.
Sally feels they’d be a great team and would like to be friends. “Wow, BFFs already, huh?” Summer says with a fake smile. Sally gets that it’s a little soon, but she envisions the day when Summer will get dragged up on stage for a Dua Lipa karaoke duet.
Sally feels like Summer will think to herself that she actually really likes “this chick.”
Afterward on Tuesday’s Y&R episode, Sally texts Kyle that they buried the hatchet. Kyle fills Summer in, but she was just pretending to buy Sally’s act. Summer suggests she needs to go on a reconnaissance mission, so she’s going to pack her best Forrester outfits, head to LA and try to learn more about Sally’s story.
At Chancellor Communications, Billy and Lily discuss the article again. Lily thinks it’s brave that Billy’s willing to go under the microscope like this. If Billy ever needs anything, Lily assures Billy that she’s always there and doesn’t scare easily.
Amanda returns to her suite and gathers enough courage to call her birth mom, Naya Benedict (Ptosha Storey). After Amanda admits she’s Naya’s daughter – the one Naya didn’t give to Rose Turner – she cries as she says she’d very much like to meet her.
Naya steadies herself outside her home and looks at her phone in shock.
At the hospital, Adam walks in Chelsea’s room and says her name. Chelsea stares at Adam and looks distraught. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Chelsea has a tough battle ahead, so stay tuned.
