The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Wednesday, January 27, teases that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) await the arrival of their top surrogate pick.
Abby wonders if they should put out the good silver, but Chance thinks that might be a bit much. Abby argues it might not be enough!
This feels this is the “biggest first date” of Abby’s life, and she’s nervous about asking for something so huge. However, Abby’s really hoping for a yes on this gestational carrier idea.
The doorbell rings, so Abby rushes to open it. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) is standing on the doorstep amidst falling snow flurries.
Once Abby welcomes Mariah in, Mariah is glad to see that Abby seems to be doing better. She gets updates on Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) specialists confirming the initial diagnosis – that Abby can’t carry a baby.
Abby explains that they’re choosing not to dwell on the negative and have chosen gestational surrogacy as their next option. They’re looking for their gestational carrier now. “Well, I want to help. How do we find her?” Mariah asks. Abby and Chance smile awkwardly in response.
Mariah notes that it must be hard to find a surrogate since carrying someone else’s baby is a huge ask. Chance excuses himself and leaves Abby to ask the big question.
Abby rambles about everything that goes into this. Doctors, appointments, treatments… There are no guarantees, but it’d mean the most miraculous gift if it works.
Mariah notes that gift would be coming from a stranger, but Abby admits they’re hoping to get someone they know as a surrogate. Chance and Abby want someone they’re close with and care about – someone who has stepped up for Abby before.
It dawns on Mariah that Abby means her. “Whoa, uh… So…you want me…to carry your baby?” a floored Mariah asks.
At Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) place, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) comes in with a bag of pastries and calls out to Hannah to tell her she can go home. Billy’s there to take care of the kids on this snow day and also yells about the baked goods waiting for them. “What’s all the shouting about?” Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) asks as she walks in the living room.
Victoria explains that the flight was cancelled due to the snowy weather, so they’ll just finish the Hawaii deal remotely. Billy argues that it’s barely snowing outside and is surprised the kids are even off from school. Victoria insists that the ice is the dangerous part – and it’s only going to get worse as the day goes on.
Billy tries to leave the pastries and take off, but Victoria pushes him to stay since the kids surely already heard his voice. She points out that Billy has his laptop with him and can probably get just as much done working at her place.
Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is out of town, so Victoria sees no need for Billy to go to Chancellor Communications.
Later, the kids keep interrupting Billy and Victoria as they try to work. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) calls to invite Johnny Abbott (Holden and Ryan Hare) and Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) to go sledding with Christian Newman (Alex Wilson), but Victoria thinks they’ll just stay there with Billy.
Nick doesn’t seem pleased about Victoria “hanging with Billy,” but she argues it’s not like that.
Since Johnny wants to make cookies, Billy teases Victoria about the time she burned a batch. Victoria jokes around with Billy, who says to send Katie down to help decorate with frosting. “It’s fun having everybody together,” Johnny says. Victoria looks at Billy adoringly.
After Victoria’s bubble bath, she comes down to see the kids happily munching on cookies as they watch TV with Billy. Victoria smiles until Billy takes a call from Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) in New York and says he misses her.
At The Grand Phoenix, Nick closes some New Hope deals over the phone and then catches up with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). Phyllis is about to head up to a suite to play videogames with Nick when Summer Newman (Hunter King) texts and derails their plans.
Meanwhile, Summer gets coffee with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) now that they’re back from their trip to LA. Summer talks about gathering ammunition against Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) while they were there.
After everything Flo Fulton (Katrina Bowden) told Summer, she’s surprised that Sally didn’t dye her hair, change her name and remove all traces of her past before moving to Genoa City.
Summer rants about Sally faking a terminal disease and then kidnapping a woman to cover it up. Kyle warns Summer not to get too worked up. He notes that Summer just wanted to know who she was up against. The goal wasn’t supposed to be to wreck Sally’s life.
Summer meets up with Nick and Phyllis in The Grand Phoenix lobby, where she goes ahead and clarifies that she’s not engaged, married or pregnant. What Summer wants to talk about is her LA trip. Summer talks up all the business developments she conquered, so Phyllis and Nick are proud.
Nick wonders if Summer wanted to meet up to brag about her accomplishments, so Summer says “pretty much” and gives Phyllis a look. Phyllis shoos Nick off to a meeting so she can chat privately with her daughter.
Summer notes that she got the scoop on Sally during her trip to LA and warns that she’s trouble. Phyllis wonders how much, so Summer says to just assume Sally kidnapped her if she goes missing – because Sally has done it before.
At Jabot, Sally is obsessing over Summer and Flo’s selfie on social media when Jack walks in. Jack asks if everything’s OK, so Sally plasters on a smile and suggests everything is fine.
Sally talks about her plans to implement her new marketing ideas for Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman), so Jack suggests he’ll go get some coffee and get out of Sally’s way.
When Sally mentions she could use a jolt of caffeine as well, Jack offers to grab her a cup, too. Sally insists the CEO shouldn’t be getting her coffee, but Jack wants to make her day a little easier. Sally says that’s very sweet of Jack, so they smile at each other for a moment.
Back with Summer, she rants to Phyllis about Jack being on Sally’s side and not knowing about her past. Phyllis worries Sally is a dangerous loose cannon and doesn’t like the idea of Summer working with her.
Summer feels she can handle Sally. She reflects on hoping to score something embarrassing to use against Sally. Summer wasn’t expecting to walk away with the news of a fake terminal illness and an abduction! If Phyllis were in Summer’s shoes, Summer wants to know how Phyllis would use this info.
Phyllis reflects on learning info against an adversary and keeping it close to the vest. It’s the wiser thing to do. Summer wants to beat Sally to the punch and doesn’t want to wait around, but Phyllis insists Summer has to be smart. It’s best for Summer to keep this information to herself for now.
Summer wonders what Phyllis would’ve done when she was younger, but Phyllis argues that she wouldn’t be Summer in that scenario. Phyllis would be Sally. She uses that as a warning to Summer about how to proceed.
Kyle walks in the Jabot boardroom, so Sally wonders how the trip to LA was. Kyle tries to dash off to work, but Sally keeps pestering him for details. She admits she saw Summer’s photo with Flo. Sally argues that there are two sides to every story and wants to clear something up.
Sally has made mistakes, but her actions have been motivated by love and passion. She feels like Kyle can understand that after Kyle’s ups and downs with Summer. Kyle doesn’t want to discuss his personal life, which Sally understands. She just needs this fresh start and doesn’t want to blow it.
Kyle has no interest in using Sally’s past against her, but Sally wonders if Summer feels the same way. Kyle notes that he doesn’t speak for Summer and leaves Sally looking pensive.
Once Kyle’s gone, Sally looks frustrated over a call on her phone. She runs to find Jack at Society and reveals she made a mistake on a Fenmore’s shipment.
Sally missed a deadline and freaks over letting Lauren down. Jack says they’ll just piggyback on a Jabot shipment and helps Sally work it all out. Since Sally is normally good with the details, Jack feels like something was really bothering her earlier.
Sally doesn’t want to talk about it, but she thanks Jack for being her hero. Nearby, Phyllis looks on and sports a sour expression.
Soon after, Jack introduces Sally to Phyllis, who reveals she’s Summer’s mother. Sally says Summer is the greatest, so Phyllis sarcastically suggests she’s glad Sally is a fan.
After Sally steps away for the shipment call, Phyllis asks what Jack’s doing and wonders if he knows everything about Sally. Jack contends that Sally is a friend, so Phyllis wishes him good luck and saunters off.
When Sally returns on Wednesday’s Young and the Restless episode, she’s relieved that the crisis was averted. Lauren will never have to know. Jack is so happy he could help and has another nice moment with Sally as Phyllis watches.
Back at the Chancellor mansion, Mariah has to sit down since she’s in shock over the surrogacy request. Abby calls Chance back in and tries to explain. They don’t want to pressure Mariah, but Abby does feel like Mariah would be the perfect person to bring their baby into this world.
Abby offers to answer questions, but Mariah is too overwhelmed and needs time to think. Mariah insists she has to talk to Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) and quickly rushes out the door.
At Crimson Lights, Tessa can tell Mariah’s worried about something. Mariah wonders if Tessa can picture her pregnant. She reveals that Abby and Chance asked her to be their gestational carrier.
While Mariah explains to a stunned Tessa, Chance second-guesses how they handled things back at the mansion. He worries to Abby that they might need to start thinking about someone else as a surrogate.
Abby isn’t surprised by Mariah’s reaction and won’t hold her choice against her no matter what. Abby’s confident that her family with Chance will happen one way or another.
Summer returns to Kyle and admits Phyllis wants her to hold onto the info. Kyle agrees with Phyllis – partially because he just spoke with Sally. He brings Summer up to speed on Sally being scared and how she’ll be on her best behavior. Summer fears Sally might lash out and frets over how far she could go.
Back at the coffeehouse on Wednesday’s Y&R episode, Mariah can’t even remember what she told Chance and Abby. “I definitely didn’t agree to it. I know that for sure. I wouldn’t do that without talking to you,” Mariah promises. She worries to Tessa that if this fails, she’ll be the one to break Abby’s heart.
On the flip side, agreeing to this would mean making a nine-month commitment. Mariah freaks out over how crazy this sounds, but Tessa thinks Mariah has to ask herself if this is something she truly wants to do.
She can tell Mariah’s taking this seriously since Mariah hasn’t said no yet, so Tessa is taking this seriously, too.
Back at Jabot, Summer tells Jack about her enlightening and eye-opening trip as a nervous Sally listens nearby. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Summer and Sally’s battle will bring more shockers, so stay tuned to Y&R.
