Tonight’s episode begins with Gwyn dying. She wasn’t looking as she was crossing the street with the baby. She got hit by a bicyclist. She fell and hit her head and that was it for her. She passed away. The baby was thankfully safe. The bicyclist called 911. The dispatched talked him through with checking on both Gwyn and Jonah. He was able to determine that she was gone, but the baby was okay and so the first concern for everyone is how Jonah is going to handle it. He was still a baby. Not even a toddler. Everyone hoped Jonah wouldn’t remember what with being so young and it was TK who said there’s a chance he will remember because he himself remembers what his baby mobile looked like over his bed. And so the one he was wishing for was that his brother wouldn’t remember their mother’s death.

Jonah was going to be traumatized enough as it is with his mother dying so young. He was going to reach for her and not realize or be able to understand that she was never coming back. Jonah will probably be one of the kids that ask why the other kids had moms and he didn’t. But as bad as things will be for him, he can still recover from this. TK might not. TK is an addict. His first response after hearing his mother die was to tell everyone he wasn’t going to the funeral just so he could return to work and be near drugs on the paramedic cart. It was his father who stopped him before he did something stupid.

Owen grabbed TK. He brought/dragged him to the airport where Carlos got them tickets on the next flight out of Austin. There were only two tickets left on the flight. Carlos couldn’t get a ticket for himself. He promised to get a later flight and join TK soon. Not that it fazed TK. TK was so focused on his own pain that he didn’t even notice other people. He instead remembered what happened the last time he fell off the wagon and how it was his mother who then dragged him out of a drug den. She also got him a stint in rehab in LA. It had taken everything she had, only Gwyn could be a force when reckoned with.

Gwyn always knew what to do in a situation. She knew how to handle TK. She would sing to him in Hebrew and it would always calm him. TK now needs his mom. He was having a crisis and his mother wasn’t the person he could turn to for help. But Owen was there. Owen stopped TK from doing drugs. He got him on the flight. It was a good thing they were there because one of the engines blew. A window got knocked out. A woman was sucked into the window and it was Owen and TK who saved her life. The plane, unfortunately, had to go back to Austin, but as they were turning around, TK and Owen treated their new friend Genevie’s wound.

TK and Owen saved that woman’s life as well as her arm. They were heroes. It also helped TK to finally stop thinking about his mom and to remember what he’s good at. He originally thought he could only stay sober with his mother’s help, but his sobriety isn’t so black and white. He once promised his mother to get clean only to grab a bunch of liquor bottles on the flight to rehab. He waited until she fell asleep to quietly get up and grab the alcohol. Only his mother knew when he got up. She didn’t try to stop him. She just laid in wait for him. And once he returned to the seat, she confronted him about the real reason he made sure to sneak away.

Gwyn had said at the time that there was no one left to lie to. No one would believe his lies anymore. He was an addict and he needed help. When his father found him in the supply cart, TK had claimed he was getting something for work but he later admitted on the flight that he was in fact getting fentanyl. He wanted to get high to ignore his pain. He admitted as much to his father and Owen didn’t judge him. Owen chose to be understanding. He supported his son and TK felt the better for it. They landed safely back in Austin. The whole flight applauded when this happened because they were all so happy something worst didn’t happen.

But TK was going to miss the funeral. According to Jewish tradition, Gwyn has to be buried twenty-four hours after her death and after landing back in Austin and being told they had to answer several questions – there was just no way the guys could make it to New York for the funeral. And so they had to say goodbye in their own ways.
