Tonight’s episode begins with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie and host, Ryan Seacrest looking for the best contestants from Nashville who want to snag a ticket to Hollywood.

Tristen Gressett is with his mother, he is 17 years old, and his number one fan. She has never missed a single gig that he has had. She calls him a natural performer in his heart. He is going to play “Piano Man” by Billy Joel and he wants to change the world of music by bringing back soul.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You make me nervous, but it’s a feeling and I think we can turn it into a good one.” Lionel: “There is a real artist under you. We are trying to take you from a gimmick to an artist. If you can take a little coaching, you have some real substance. You got what it takes to be a real big star.” Luke: “You are just amazingly talented, but it is too much. We got our work cut out with you.” Three yes votes from the judges.

Cadence Baker’s father has a recording studio and she is so glad that her dad is going to be with her. Her grandfather wrote, “I Swear.” She is singing “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” by Whitney Houston.

Judges Comments: Katy: “That was amazing, really good. Maybe it was a little lower, you could have gone higher.” Lionel: “You came in with a professional guitar player, and he had such a pocket, it was so tight and you stepped right into the pocket. Luke: “I think it is one of the best auditions I’ve seen, top ten.” Three yes vote from the judges.

Dontrell Briggs brings a rug with him that has a photo of his godmother Betty on it, who was dear to him and has since past away. He says she is there in spirit and he believes if he gets that golden ticket that she will rejoice with the angels. He will be singing “For Your Glory.” He sing a second song, “Tennessee Whiskey.”

Judges Comments:

Katy: “I’m not sure, but it is not up to me. I think it is going to be hard for you to get there, it’s a no from me.” Lionel: “That was something, you let God come through you. Your godmother was with you, I felt every breath of that performance.” Luke: “I need to be listening to more gospel, but I’m no expert. I am torn. Katy is a no, but Lionel and Luke are a yes, so he is getting his golden ticket.

Abigail Brooks is from Colorado and works at a coffee shop in Tribeka. She graduated from the Institute for American Musical Theater in 2021. They get a broom for her, it is her signature thing on TikTok. She is singing, “Vincent.”

Judges Comments: Katy: “When you started I got chills, you are that one in a hundred.” Lionel: “I know Barbara very well, and she is exactly what you are trying to be, a phenomenom. I can’t wait to call Barbara and tell her about you.” Luke: “I predict you win Disney night. You sing beautifully natural.” Three yes votes from the judges.

Dakota Hayden is 17 years-old from Fordsville, Kentucky and performing in front of Luke Bryan is life changing. He is singing, “When It Rains It Pours,” by Luke Coombs. They make him dump the guitar and sing acapella.

Judges Comments:

Katy: “You are authentic true and true. I think you are top ten material.” Lionel: “You are pure country, as believable as heck You are not Luke’s son, but your attitude and personality remind me of him.” Luke: “You are in the right place, call everyone you are exactly what we want to find and you are going to snip the top ten.” Three yes votes from the judges.

Taniya Boatright is a senior from Myrtle Beach and Willie Spence was a huge inspiration for her from last season. She is going to sing “A Change is Going to Come,” by Sam Cooke.

Judges Comments: Katy: “I thought you were a little restrained, I am on the fence. You have to discover that next gear.” Lionel: “If you take this kind of start and wok on your delivery, then come back to see us, that would be good.” Luke: “It was a very solid performance, a little more contained than I was expecting. You have tons of promise. Beautiful voice but you need fire.” It’s a not yet for American Idol from the judges, but Lionel does give her a yes because he wants her to know the impact she made on them.

Donavan Diaz is a funeral director and embalmer, he also has his own talent agency. He sings country music.

Judges Comments: Katy: “Your performance didn’t bring life.” Luke: “It was stiff.” The judges were not impressed with his performance.

Emily Faith is 21 years old, she works in the family business, a funeral home. She is a country music singer. She is singing, “Good Hearted Woman,” by Waylon Jennings.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You have a sweet voice, but we want to pull you out of that.” Lionel: “It’s a yes from me.” Luke: “You have an authentic country voice that is natural.” Three yes votes from the judges.

Mark Osborne is from the country in West Virginia. His mom can sing, she has inspired him. He couldn’t make it singing for a career, so he went back home and got a real job; he figured he was going to work until he dies. His mom asked him to apply for American Idol. His band that he used to play in was called, “Smokehouse Crickets.”

Judges Comments: Katy: “The wiry guitar strings and all, cool. You are the guy we look for on American Idol, you are authentic. You are authentic.” Lionel: “When you rock the stache you know what you are doing. I do like you. I like your attitude.” Luke: “Vocally, we would like you to dig into other stuff. Your momma was right.”

Ryleigh Madison is 16 years old and she sings country music. She actually professionally performs with her uncle, Dustin Champman who auditioned in the previous season. Her style has been compared to Patsy Cline.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You are super country and you have a great voice. Your accent is so thick when you sing. There were missing words, dial it down twenty five percent.” Lionel: “Your nerves took over, for future, take that breath and lay it on the back side. You have a great voice.” Luke: “I would like you to dial it down a bit.” Three yes votes from the judges.

Sam Finelli loves American Idol, singing is his passion. He has been diagnosed with autism. It was lonely growing up, but music was his best friend. He is going to be singing, “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You picked the perfect song, there has always been a rainbow hanging over your head. The moment is now, let go of all your fear and that negativity and sing from your heart. We felt you.” Lionel: “You told us about your struggle, now you walk out here with no experience and you have three judges giving you a standing ovation. We are so proud of you. Your handicap is your gift.” Luke: “I love an experience and that felt like one, thank you.” Three yes votes from the judges.
