As the final auditions across Los Angeles, California; Austin, Texas; and Nashville, Tennessee, come to an end, the show’s iconic judge auditions will surprise audiences and hopefuls alike with never-before-seen twists; and the final Platinum Ticket winner is revealed.

Tonight’s American Idol episode begins with the final auditions for this season.

Tobias Hill is the first hopeful tonight, he is a music director and teacher. His students have no idea that he is auditioning. He wants to chase the dream of being a music entertainer. He will be singing, “Knocks Me Off My Feet,” by Stevie Wonder.

Judges Comments: Katy: “Today is going to be a good day. You have star dust all around you. Your singing could slow down a little. I am excited for you.” Lionel: “You put that whole package together, I really do like your enthusiasim.” Luke: “I’m kind of wondering why you are not already a star. Vocally it is not 100% there, but you are worthy of being here.”

Three yes votes from the judges.

Morgan Gruber hunts and fishes on her twelve acres. She is doing this for her grandma, she had ovarian cancer for five years and always wanted Morgan to sing for her. She is singing, “Can’t Be Loved,” by Elle King. She gets a standing ovation from the judges.

Judges Comments: Katy: “That was amazing. I really don’t have many critiques for you.” Lionel: “I wrote on my sheet top 20.” Luke: “I wrote on my sheet top 20.”

Three yes votes from the judges.

Kimmie Caraffa is singing for her baby girl, Lilly. She wants this opportunity to change her daughter’s life. She is singing, “How Do I Live,” by Trisha Yearwood.

Judges Comments: Katy: “I think you are brave to come out here, and it is ok to show your daughter that she is not perfect. It will be hard for you to compete at the level that we are looking for.” Lionel: “We are in this business because of people like you. You need time, but don’t give up. When you win you win, when you lose you learn.” Luke: “You have a nice voice, but it is not ready for American Idol.”

All three judges decide not to put her through.

Kayla Roberson and Matt Gorman are singing an original song.

Judges Comments:Katy: “Kayla you really stand out, Matt has the grit in his voice. Matt, you have a good foundation, but I think it will be challenging in this competition so it is a no for me. Yes to Kayla.” Lionel: “Matt think of being a lead. I want you to be in the mix. Kayla it’s a yes.” Luke: “You compliment each other well. It’s not hokey, it is authentically yours. You Matt are the opposite. Matt, it is a no for now. It is a yes for Kayla.”

It is a yes for Kayla to Hollywood, but a no to Matt.

Saylor is auditioning because she wants to be somebody. Her dad posted of her at ten years old singing and it went viral. Her father left the family a year ago for someone on her fan page. She is there for her. She is singing “All I Want” by Kodaline.

Judges Comments:

Katy: “When we saw you crack, we saw ourselves. You do have a voice. I am a yes.” Lionel: “You were so emotional singing that song. I am a hell yes.” Luke: “I really love your voice. It was very powerful. You are a beautiful butterfly in a cacoon. I am a yes.”

Three yes votes gets her to Hollywood.

Cameron Whitcomb from Canada is singing “Rick, Salt And Nails,” by Waylon Jennings.

Judges Comments: Katy: “I think there is something there. There is something there, if you can trust us it’s a yes from me.” Lionel: “How long have you been singing? (never) The tone you have could be amazing. But you are not organized yet. It’s a no for now, work on it.” Luke: “I don’t think you have any idea what you are doing. I just like you, it’s a yes.”

Two votes and he is going to Hollywood.

Emyrson Flora is 16 years old and a high school student.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You’ve got some really cool things in your voice. You can really project. You have a lot of raw talent.” Lionel: “You got a tone at the end, this is a dice roll.” Luke: “The question is do we want to roll the dice on the raw.”

Three yes votes from the judges.

Sir Blake is a songwriter, his musical journey hasn’t been great. He knew he wanted to do music at an early age, his mother was a choir director. He is the first to leave home to pursue his dream. He became homeless, he got a membership at a gym so he could shower. He is a song writer now, he is still struggling, but he knows he is on the right track. He is singing, “Dive” by Ed Sheeran.

Judges Comments: Katy: “I actually preferred your original song, you have a good voice, you just need to connect. Bring it, it’s a yes from me.” Lionel: “Hopefully you are a quick study, I believe in you, it’s a yes from me.” Luke: “I love your voice in certain moments, I think you are trying too hard. I fear putting you up against people who don’t miss notes. I am going to have to be a no.”

Two yes votes gets him to Hollywood.

Carly Mickeal is with her dad Dave, he is a musician and she gets all her creativity and inspiration from him. She is singing, “Your Song,” by Elton John.

Judges Comments: Katy: “Sing like you are happy.” Lionel: “You are honed in on every phrase perfectly.” Luke: “I really feel like you are a star. Overall you are a potential star.”

Three yes votes from the judges.

Jay Copeland is in grad school for acting. He is singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” by Stevie Wonder. A standing ovation from all the judges.

Judges Comments: Katy: “You have done a lot of studying. You are the perfect candidate for a platinum ticket, you get to go to Hollywood week, but you get to skip it and advance.” Lionel: “You got some great teeth. You just don’t jump on a Stevie Wonder song, you controlled it and owned it. Your talent is off the chain. You can’t study anymore.” Luke: “We have been waiting for a kid like you, you are perfect.”

Three yes votes for a platinum ticket.

Skyler Maxey-Wert lives in Germany, he is a ballet dancer. His parents are artistic people, his father was a mime. He has a successful ballet career but he loves to sing. This whole experience is new for him. He is singing, “For All We Know,” by Donny Hathaway. He gets a standing ovation from the judges.

Judges Comments: Katy: “I want to see a little dancing.” Lionel: “You have brought us an element we have never experienced and your trip was not in vain. What a gift.” Luke: “You are holding these notes, making them tangible moments.”

Three yes votes from the judges.
